With my subscription, I took the opportunity this past weekend to watch

 “The Passion of The Christ”

https://app.pureflix.com/videos/482147878914/the-passion-of-the-christ-trailer

Available only from 20 March to 19 April 2022

Starring: Jim Caviezel. Directed by Mel Gibson.

Background / Plot Synopsis

WARNING: This is the same version that debuted in theaters and is unedited. It is a graphic depiction of the last 12 hours of Jesus’ life and is intended for mature audiences only.

The story of the trial, beating and crucifixion of Jesus on Good Friday

Flashbacks to times during Jesus’ life and ministry

Last Supper and Communion

Sermon on the Mount and the Good Shepherd

Forgiveness

Salvation

I find The Passion of The Christ to be one of the most important movies to watch. It gives me a perspective of what Jesus endured on Good Friday. Not only does it show the crucifixion, it shows the recollections to other important events for Jesus. Such as, him being a child, his miracles, ministries and the Last Supper and Communion.  Every time I watch this movie, I am brought to tears. It is heartbreaking to see the violence, pain and judgements he received. At times, it is hard to watch the most graphic scenes, but then remembered what the beautiful outcome will be and because of Him, my sins have washed away. I find it to be significant that after all He suffered, His courage and forgiveness is so powerful. I am reminded that Jesus is the way, the truth and the light. I, also, think of the Bible Verse:

“Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You  who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, come down from the  cross and save yourself!” In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law  mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save him self! Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him. – Mark 15:29-32  (NIV)

About the Book

Book:
Touch of Innocence

Author: Robin Patchen

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release date: January 25, 2022

From a USA Today bestselling author comes a gripping story of mystery, romance, and pulse-pounding suspense.

How can she save the little girl next door from being exploited if nobody believes her?

Grace used to try to save people, but that was before she realized how powerless she is. Now, she avoids emotional ties, working from her secluded cabin, content with her aloneness. When eight-year-old Lily starts hanging around, Grace enjoys her company but carefully keeps her distance—until she discovers the girl is being exploited. Little though she wants to, she must get involved, even if it means risking her own safety to secure Lily’s.

Andrew can’t help but be drawn to his new neighbor and her beautiful foster child. When he learns about Lily’s disturbing history, he offers to help Grace prove her suspicions about the girl’s father. But the more they learn, the more puzzling Lily’s history seems. They work together to unravel the mystery, determined to ensure Lily ends up with a family who loves her.

But Lily’s father isn’t giving up his muse—or his obsession—that easily. He believes Lily is rightfully his, and he’ll do anything to get her back.

Don’t miss this thrilling page-turner, the latest in the addictive Coventry Saga.

About the Author

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. After college, working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball and chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving that most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. More from Robin

I love everyman-hero stories.

I know detectives and FBI agents and other law enforcement officers are fighting crime and solving mysteries all the time, but I love stories where regular folks—the kind who live next door and work in supermarkets or sell insurance—suddenly find themselves in the middle of a mystery—one only they can solve.

Maybe it’s my own longing for adventure (while living a life that consists largely of sitting in my office wearing yoga pants and tapping away on a keyboard) that leads me to write these kinds of stories

Touch of Innocence has that everyman… er, woman character, a reclusive former child therapist who wants nothing more than to be left alone. The problem is, Grace has a gift (which she calls a curse) that enables her to “see” that her eight-year-old neighbor, Lily, is being exploited by her child-pornographer father. But since Grace doesn’t have any proof, only the impressions she received when she touched the child’s palm, the police don’t do anything to rescue little Lily.

So Grace takes matters into her own hands.

As the villain so aptly puts it, she “blows up her entire life for the sake of a girl she barely knows.”

And that all happens in the first chapter. Then it gets really interesting.

There’s so much talk in the world about doing things for the greater good, for the benefit of the many, not the few, but that wasn’t Jesus’s way, was it?

Jesus didn’t die for the collective good. He died for you and me. He left the ninety-nine to seek out the one.

In a way, Touch of Innocence asks if one forgotten little girl is worth the cost of the heroine’s security, maybe even her life?

What is the value of one life, and how much are we as believers willing to sacrifice to save?

I think it’s a question worth exploring.

A little FYI about the book: I was very careful not to have any explicit scenes. Though the reader gets the sense of what Lily’s been through, there are no descriptions or images you’ll wish you hadn’t seen. I did my very best in this story to highlight a terrible thing that’s happening all over the world while at the same time honoring my readers and, above all, the Lord.

My Review

Touch of Innocence is the fifth installment from the Coventry Saga by Robin Patchen. I have enjoyed a couple from this saga, Tides of Duplicity and Betrayal of Genius, and this one is no different. This one is probably my favorite I have read. It was quite the plot twisting mystery that had hooked from start to finish. I admired Grace’s determination and bravery from the beginning. I loved it when she teams up with Andrew and seeing the duo unravel the mystery. They get themselves in a lot of twists and turns that had me on the edge of the seat wondering what would happen next on the following the pages. I never knew what was going to follow and how it would all unfold. There was unstoppable suspense with action danger and sweet romance thrown in. I thought this was a great book to read and perfect way to spend a cold, snowy day.

Touch of Innocence is getting five stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romantic suspense. I believe this one is most definitely worth a read and not to be missed. I can not wait to get my hands on the others books I have not read yet from the Coventry Saga, Glimmer in the Darkness and Traces of Virtue, to see what happened prior this one.

I received a digital copy of Touch of Innocence from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Light the Way by Lin Stepp

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

Light the Way
(The Lighthouse Sisters #1)
By Lin Stepp
Christian Fiction, Contemporary Romance
Paperback & ebook, 292 Pages
April 1, 2022 by Mountain Hill Press

In this new coastal series, Lin Stepp transports her readers into the rich, colorful lives of Burke and her sisters, Lila, Gwen, and Celeste, who grew up at the Deveaux Inn and Lighthouse on a windswept island, accessible only by boat. Get ready to be introduced to the ups and downs, joys and sorrows, challenges and adventures of a Lighthouse Keeper.

Life had grown hard for Burke Deveaux at the family inn and lighthouse since her father died. She missed his warmth and still expected to see him walking into a room, his big laugh booming. Burke and her mother were gradually adjusting to the change, and Lila had come home this winter to help, but the workload was heavy. With spring coming and tourism picking up in the South Carolina Lowcountry, Burke welcomed Hal Jenkins’ request for his son Waylon to work for them. Waylon, retiring early from the Navy, knew the island and the lighthouse, having grown up nearby. Burke also knew Waylon well since they’d grown up together. He’d always been older, and she wondered how he’d see her now.

Waylon had been away from Edisto Island for over twelve years now, traveling around the world in the military, but it felt good to be home. He’d hated learning Lloyd Deveaux was gone, the warm-hearted Lighthouse Keeper he’d followed around as a boy. But he liked the idea of coming to stay at the lodge at Watch Island to help the Deveaux family with the inn, lighthouse, and nearly five-hundred acres of land the Lighthouse Station occupied. He knew Burke had picked up many of her father’s old tasks and he looked forward to seeing her again. He’d kept feelings for her clamped down for years but one look at her brought them surging back. How would he handle that with them working together?

My Review

I have loved other books by Lin Stepp and was excited to have the opportunity to read her newest release. Light the Way begins her The Lighthouse Sisters series and I was far from being disappointed. This may be my favorite I have read by her to date. I loved the beautiful scenery and the author’s details of the area, that made feel as though I was breathing the ocean air. It was great getting to know the sisters, especially Burke. I adored this character and loved the chemistry between her and Waylon. Such a sweet and inspiring story.

Light the Way is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romance. I can not wait to read the next book from The Lighthouse Sisters series.

I received a paperback copy of Light the Way from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

THE MOON IN THE SKY Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

The Moon in the Sky: Poems Your Kids Would Have Written (If Only They Could Write) is a fun book to read for younger readers by Bruce Shutts. The poems include the various parts of learning, such as, dressing yourself, going to the bathroom and having snacks. I was not expecting the many laughs that it brought out. It was a fun book to read with my own children. Some of the pages, I had to read again and again to them. I thought it was a great entertainment and a bonding moment while reading with them.

The Moon in the Sky: Poems Your Kids Would Have Written (If Only They Could Write) is illustrated by the talented artist, Amy Wummer. The pictures perfectly go with the words on the perfect. They catch a young reader’s eye to keep them interested in the book.

I am giving The Moon in the Sky: Poems Your Kids Would Have Written (If Only They Could Write) a very well deserved five plus stars. I recommend it for readers who are between the ages of three and seven years old. It would be a great addition to add to a children’s library or in a preschool classroom to read over and over.

I received a soft cover copy of The Moon in the Sky: Poems Your Kids Would Have Written (If Only They Could Write) from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Book Blast and Giveaway: Find Your Way Back by Javacia Harris Bowser

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The Literary Lobbyist will be awarding one $25 and one $50 Amazon or B/N GC to randomly drawn winners via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Award-winning freelance journalist Javacia Harris Bowser is convinced that writing is a superpower. She sees her life as proof of it since writing has helped her navigate marriage, crisis of faith and body image issues. It also helped her to beat cancer.

As a Black woman from the South, Javacia has used the written word to explore issues of gender and race as well as religion. Find Your Way Back is a collection of essays that demonstrate how Javacia has used writing to achieve some of her wildest dreams such as being a public speaker, having her own column, and being her own boss. The book also explores how writing, self-love, and faith helped her overcome her worst nightmare: a cancer diagnosis in 2020. Javacia’s goal is to show readers how writing can transform their lives as well. The book includes prompts throughout to help readers start their own writing journey.

This book is for the woman who has wanted to write since she was a girl but struggles to find the time or the courage to put her words on paper. Find Your Way Back, shows that instead of putting writing on the back burner when life gets turned upside down, we should turn to it to help life make sense again.

Read an Excerpt

- from I’m Feeling Lucky – and Enraged

When it comes to health care, I’ve always been lucky. My lupus diagnosis in 2008 didn’t come after spending years visiting doctor after doctor, searching for answers to questions of chronic pain. I mentioned my fatigue, achy joints, vitiligo spots, and bouts of Raynaud’s disease to my primary care physician at the time as casually as someone rattling off a grocery list. She looked at me and said, “We need to test you for lupus.”

Years later, in a new state with a new doctor, I once again had a proactive primary care doc who urged me to get a mammogram, even though I was in my thirties. Breast cancer is often diagnosed in its later stages for women under forty, which means the survival rate is lower and the recurrence rate is higher. And while Black women and white women get breast cancer at about the same rate, Black women are more likely to be diagnosed before age 45 and, regardless of age, Black women die from breast cancer at a higher rate than white women.

Even when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age thirty-eight, I still felt lucky. I felt lucky that I had insurance that covered my treatment. I felt lucky that whenever I said I was in pain, my doctors and nurses believed me and scrambled to do something about it.

I felt lucky because in 2020, thirty million people were uninsured, and about half of those were people of color, according to The Brookings Institution, a research and public policy organization in Washington, DC. I felt lucky because both anecdotal evidence and published studies reveal that many medical professionals don’t take Black people’s pain seriously. According to a 2016 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, half the medical students surveyed had false beliefs such as “black people’s skin is thicker than white people’s.” And trainees who believed that Black people are not as sensitive to pain as white people were less likely to treat Black people’s pain appropriately.

The staggering Black maternal mortality rates show that this type of implicit bias can be deadly. According to the CDC, each year about seven hundred people in the United States die during pregnancy or the year after. Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women. I feel lucky, and I feel angry because I shouldn’t feel lucky! Affordable health care and being listened to and taken seriously by your doctors should be the norm for everyone.

I will use my privilege and my platform to try to do something about this. I’ve written stories about the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act, which seeks to use legislation to address every aspect of the maternal health crisis in America. And I’ve written about the CDC’s Hear Her campaign, which seeks to improve communication between patients and their doctors and help to make healthcare providers, patients, and their families more aware of the warning signs of potentially life-threatening complications. I’ve had the chance to be a voice for other breast cancer patients of color in sessions with healthcare providers thanks to the work of organizations like the Tigerlily Foundation, which provides breast cancer education, awareness, advocacy and support for women ages 15 to 45, with a focus on women of color.

Even though I’m a writer, sometimes words aren’t enough. So, I will keep writing, but I also will keep fighting.

More from Christy

I wrote Legacy of Lies after watching an interview on TV of a woman whose father killed several people. I tried to put myself in her shoes. How did she cope under the weight of what her father had done? How did people treat her differently? How did her father’s decisions affect her future? From there, I had the idea to highlight a group of three siblings who were dealing with this. I’d already done another four-book series in the mountain town of Fog Lake, Tennessee, and I really loved setting those books there. I decided to revisit the area and make it the place where these three siblings had grown up—and where they had to return.

My Review

Legacy of Lies: The Colsons is the fifth installment from Christy Barritt’s Fog Lake Suspense series. Since I have not had the pleasure of reading the other books in the series, I believe this can be read as a stand alone. I thought this was a fabulous read. It is full of mystery, suspense, and romance. I was hooked from the beginning and all the way to the end. I enjoyed the plot and great characters.

I am giving Legacy of Lies: The Colsons five stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romantic suspense. I am looking forward to reading the previous books from the Fog Lake Suspense series to see what has happened before this one.

I received a digital copy of Legacy of Lies: The Colsons from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

More from Marguerite

Are you a gardener? My mom calls me the accidental gardener. Is there such a thing? Well, I threw a pumpkin off my deck into a flower bed in December. By March, I had a garden full of beautiful, big pumpkins and luscious vines.

I love the idea of gardening, although I’m not very successful with my planting and grandiose plans. I stick with zinnias, potatoes, and onions. But I admire all kinds of gardens—flower and vegetable. Gardens are full of surprises—zingers in my ordinary life.

From the beauty of organized formal gardens like Versailles and Boboli to quaint, colorful English gardens, I relish the assault to all the senses. I’m refreshed, renewed, and relaxed just by being in a garden.

The birth of my Gardens in Time series arose from my travels. Labor of Love, set in the Boboli Gardens in Florence, springs from memories of wonder and beauty as I roamed the avenues and paths as a child and then an adult. I never had the adventures of Ana as she struggles and grows in the court of the Medici, but I walked in the Medici’s steps and let my imagination journey with Ana. She now has her own story.

I hope that you can experience some of the awe and amazement through Ana’s wanderings. I invite you to roam the Boboli Gardens with Ana.

My Review

Labor of Love is the first installment from Marguerite Martin Gray’s Gardens in Time series. I have loved previous books from this author and was excited to have an opportunity to read the beginning of this new series. I was far from being disappointed. I really enjoyed Ana and Marco’s story and getting to know them. There was adventure and romance that I love to read in a book. It is not a very long book to read and had no problem reading it all in one sitting. It was great.

I am giving Labor of Love a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. I can not wait to read book two from the Gardens in Time series.

I received a digital copy of Labor of Love from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
