More from Donna

Til death do us part comes sooner than expected in Levy City, Florida. In Vivien Sheffield’s bridal salon at Wynton’s Department Store, the goal-of-the-day is to make her brides happy. But since all brides were not created equal, some days she leaves for home with a smile, while others send her straight to the mirror searching for new gray hairs. It’s the life of a wedding gown designer and bridal consultant. Miss Vivien, along with her dearest friend and assistant, Mirette, are ready for all the surprises that come with helping girls down the aisle to their happily-ever-afters. That is until someone decides to start killing her brides.

It wouldn’t be Wynton’s department store without some sort of drama going around. Miss Vivien’s friends Audrey, Mary Jo, and Gigi are no exception and must work around their own troubles when they jump in to help save Levy City’s brides. Audrey has been promoted and works to find a suitable replacement for her old job as Mr. Wynton’s secretary while her new position takes her back to the heart of the fashion industry, a world she turned her back on. Mary Jo battles to keep her family together amidst trying to honor the needs of her parents and fulfilling her duties as a clerk at Wynton’s. Gigi has been given a golden opportunity to work her way up in the store, but her deep insecurities may ruin her dreams of success. Miss Vivien faces public scorn and distrust. She wonders if the time has come for her to follow society’s rules for women her age and just be a grandmother.

Not ones to bow to trouble, the women of Wynton’s lean on the bonds of their friendship while working together to try and make sense of the strange clues the murderer leaves behind.

Female friendships is a strong foundation for this story. We girls all know when you’ve found your special circle, no matter how large or small, you can count on them to come behind you when life throws you a bouquet of rotten flowers. I’m blessed to have a group of friends I met in college almost forty years ago who have supplied me with wonderful building blocks to use for the ladies of Wynton’s friendship.

Because we’re scattered across the country, we don’t see each other often. So, a few years ago, the organizer of our bunch decided we needed to have a yearly reunion. For a week, we get together to eat, laugh, share life-stories, and love on one another in the special way only dear friends can. We have a motto, “You can’t make old friends.” There is something wonderful about being around the women who knew you when you were young and fresh yet still love you when life has started to trace a roadmap of wrinkles across your cheeks and brow. We’ve been there for each other during the blessed times, and there when life steam-rolled one of us and flattened us on the ground.

There are seven of us, from different backgrounds, countries, races, careers, and opinions. We met when we all lived in an old, non-air-conditioned dorm at the University of Florida, where we laughed, sweat, and helped each other grow up a little. Three of us married guys who also lived in that dorm.

Like my ladies at Wynton’s, we know each other’s warts, and we love past them to the greatness we see in each other. There is something special about long-standing female friendships, where that same mama-bear ferocity we had for our children spills over to those select sisters God brought into our lives. And like Miss Vivien, Audrey, Mary Jo, and Gigi, we will rush in without fear to help us get through the worst of times.

These are the women who help me grow up, shape up, and live up to who God meant for me to be. They are a gift. They are my tribe.

They are my friends. And for that, I’m eternally grateful.

STONES RIVER by M.F. Jones Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

Stones River: A Civil War Story of Courage, Sacrifice, and an Otherworldly Love is the first book from The Sentinel Heart Trilogy, as well as, the debut for author, M F Jones. With my recent trip to Gettysburg this past summer and my increased interest of the American Civil War, I could not have picked up this novel at a better time. After my own unexplainable experience with my children there, I was intrigued with this tale. The author's details were quite vivid that made me feel as though I was right there and experiencing Lem and Jessie's story in real time - past and present. There were a few times that I had to grab some tissues. It was easy for me to keep turning the pages all the way to the end. I loved it.

I would have given Stones River: A Civil War Story of Courage, Sacrifice, and an Otherworldly Love one hundred stars if I could. I believe fans of historical fiction with a paranormal twist will not want to miss out on it. I am eagerly awaiting the second installment from The Sentinel Heart Trilogy, Soldier's Joy. I can not wait to see what will happen next in the trilogy. M F Jones has earned themselves a new fan.

I received a paperback copy of M F Jones' Stones River: A Civil War Story of Courage, Sacrifice, and an Otherworldly Love from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

More from Rosann

40 Days to God, My Father was born out of a difficult season with my pastor-father’s struggle with substance abuse. As I walked through the painful circumstances with my earthly father, I found myself grappling with trusting God as a good Father. I sensed the Lord inviting me on a journey to know Him as my One True Father. It was through reading the Scriptures––where I saw the Lord’s character revealed––prayer, and reflection that I found my trust restored.

I want to share the same truths I found with others who may be doubting the goodness of the Lord. Assuredly, He is the perfect Father each of us desperately needs. I pray readers will come away from the book knowing that He is faithful, loving, and kind.

My Review:
Corners of My Mind: American Short Stories is a collection of thirty one tales by the talented author, Travis E Short. They are only four and sixteen pages long and easy to add to anyone's busy schedule. It was fun being thrown into a new story every so often. I never knew what to expect after finishing one after another. I liked the different experiences, from brave soldiers to sweet canines. They touched my heart, made me laugh, cry, and smile. A beautiful variety and mix of emotions within the book. I do want to warn other readers to have those tissues handy. I loved every single story and could not pick just one as my favorite.

I am going to give Corners of My Mind: American Short Stories a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read short stories that have heart, show the human spirit, and inspiration. I would love for the author to have a volume two from the Corners of My Mind to be released in the future. Book Blast and Giveaway: My Husband Almost Killed Me by Linda Beason

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Linda Beason will be awarding a $10 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

"If you ever leave me, I will kill the kids then I will kill you." "I can't help but think of other women who may be facing similar situations, even now in a time and generation when these events can easily be exposed as much as they could be hidden. I wish I could reach each one of them, look into their eyes and tell them: you don't have to live like this. Life can be better; you can choose a different path. It's not easy, trust me, I know that more than most people do, BUT IT'S WORTH IT." This book is an autobiography about a woman raised on a large farm who learned to drive a large tractor at the age of seven, then spent many years plowing, planting and harvesting crops and taking care of the farm animals. After three years in the Marine Corps, she married her college sweetheart who became a drunk and abused her for seven horrible years before he almost killed her then disappeared. After she recovered she and her three kids fled to Florida to hide so he wouldn't find them and finish the job.

Read an Excerpt

A few weeks ago, after one of Phil’s drunken rages, I decided that the kids and I would start camping out in the cornfield surrounding the house to avoid getting in his way. The plan was simple: we’d head out about an hour before he typically staggered home and stay hidden and out of sight until we were sure he had returned and passed out in bed. After that, we would crawl back into the house, get tucked in, and wake up the following day when Phil would have recovered from his stupor, and we could go back to being a regular family until we had to do it all over again at night. This way, we could avoid the brunt of his tirades and tantrums, and, most importantly, I could retain some semblance of peace, normalcy, and quiet for myself and my kids.

So far, it had been working.

As far as the kids were concerned, any chance to camp out in the fields was a fun opportunity they couldn’t miss. They were now used to the earthy, starchy, grassy smell, the sound of crickets chirping, and the occasional rustle of small rabbits nearby scurrying through the underbrush. Bailey and Ryan usually wore themselves out singing nursery rhymes and playing with their toys under the tent. Then, using a dim flashlight, I read bedtime stories to them while cradling Brooke and rocking her to sleep. When they were all fast asleep, I would keep watch, waiting for Phil to arrive and timing our return to the house.

The plan was working, but tonight, Brooke’s feeble cries threatened to disrupt it. She had initially fallen asleep in my arms, but for some reason, her eyes opened back up moments later, and since then, she’d been crying and refused to go back to sleep. I tried to cradle her even more, hoping the cry would let up, but it only grew louder. I wasn’t worried about a neighbor hearing us and calling the cops to report a lost, crying baby in the fields; the house closest to our field was a good half-mile away. I was more worried about Bailey’s and Ryan’s sleep being interrupted and the possibility of Phil’s sudden return.

About the Author: Born and raised on an Indiana farm, Linda Beason was steeped in the rhythms of rural life and nurtured by the enduring love of a close-knit family.

From an early age, she embraced responsibility and excelled throughout her school years. As an alumna of Purdue University— where she earned degrees in both agriculture and accounting—Linda distinguished herself academically and professionally, later working for several corporate companies, most notably the Green Giant Company, and serving honorably in the Marine Corps.

Yet despite a childhood filled with warmth and promise, Linda's adult life took a harrowing turn when she entered a marriage that would test the very limits of her strength. For nearly a decade, she endured domestic abuse at the hands of a dangerous man whose fury was fueled by alcohol and an insatiable need for control. That turbulent period sent her racing through a whirlwind of experiences that would forever alter her path. Even in the darkest moments, however, Linda clung to her faith in God and the quiet confidence of a Midwesterner.

Linda passed away in 2024 while writing this book. Through these pages, she hoped to inspire women to overcome the challenges of toxic relationships and the hardships of motherhood, reminding them that even the deepest wounds can heal and that the promise of a brighter tomorrow is always within reach.

My Review:
I thought that The Quantum Revelations was a good debut for Stuart Heinrich. I do have to admit it is not my usual my to genre when I am searching for a book. However, after reading the blurb, I was intrigued and wanted to see what it was all about. It was nice to be taken away from this chaotic real world and take a new journey into a fantastical one. It did take me a little while to get into it and understand what was going on with the plot. About twenty five percent in, I was able to catch on and did not want to put it down. It was full of action, mystery, suspense, danger, and adventure. It was exciting in getting to know characters, Skylar and Zara. I admired their courage and bravery. Overall, I found that the book was a good read that was thought provoking at times, making me think of what could be in store for our future.

I am going to give The Quantum Revelations three and a half stars. I believe that fans of Sci-fi, Mystery, Thriller, Scientific fiction will not to miss out on reading it. I do think it is worth reading. I am curious to see what other releases Stuart Heinrich has in the works for future publication.

THE GENTLEMAN THIEF STEALS A BLANKET Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:
The Gentleman Thief Steals a Blanket is my first introduction to the talents of author Mark Nutter. I found his writing to different and unique. With the title and the cover, I honestly was not sure what was in store for me at first. I was quickly presented with quirkiness and laugh out loud humor. The plot was entertaining, witty, and exciting that included some mystery with a lot of hilarity. I never knew what antics and / or trouble Danny would get himself into from one scene to the next. I thought it was heartwarming tale that left me smiling all the way to the very end. It was a great way to give me a chance to get away from the seriousness of real life and the horrors I have been hearing about around the world recently.

I am going to give The Gentleman Thief Steals a Blanket four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who love to read fiction with a humorous twist. I believe this one should not be missed and definitely world reading.  I would love to read more like this one from Mark Nutter in the future. I be on the look out for his previous releases, as well as, any coming out years to come.

She’s the Social Director of the Florida Christian Writers Conference and the president of Word Weavers International’s Brevard Chapter. When she’s not bookkeeping, budget counseling, or writing, Sally enjoys spending time with family and friends, scrapbooking, and doing crafts, some of which she sells on Etsy.

More from Sally

I didn’t know it was hot flashes for the first five years. I thought the air-conditioning was broken everywhere I went, because it was. At my house in Florida, my bedroom at the end of the line sizzled. At the office, the unit that fed my room was down; I relied on the trickle of AC from the main room. And my car fritzed often enough, so I didn’t notice it was hot flashes until a friend’s husband mentioned her “crazy pills” at their house one night. She explained they were for hormones and how awful she’d been before taking them.

When she mentioned hot flashes, the light bulb went off. My mother never said anything about suffering from menopause, and the only person I’d ever known to talk about any of it used to break out an oriental fan when the flashes happened, but she was in her fifties, therefore, I didn’t connect the dots in my early forties. All the older ladies at scrapbooking said my sleep issues were menopause, but again, I was too young for that. Then I learned it’s happening about a decade earlier than in previous generations.

When I complained to a friend at the Florida Christian Writers Conference about my perimenopausal symptoms and my great ignorance, she told me I should write a book and put all my humor into it. I spent the next few months taking notes and decided that I indeed had enough material for a book. My dystopian book in progress got pushed aside, and I started down the rabbit hole of finding answers for myself and compiling a useful tool for others walking blindly on the path of menopause.

I found some existing books using humorous personal stories and others addressing symptoms by using medical speak, but nothing with both, so I married the two and tried to dumb it down in a way that even I would understand. I threw in the humor to make the reader know they are not alone. I addressed those pesky symptoms using pharmaceutical, holistic, and over-the-counter treatments where available to appease all the ladies.

As I wrote the book, I kept finding that how we live our forties determines our fifties, our fifties determine our sixties, and so on, subsequently addressing food and other obstacles to longevity. I wrote this book because most women don’t want to talk about this topic, and most doctors aren’t trained in the field of aging women.

I found that even women who don’t suffer greatly will still submit to the effects down the road with osteoporosis and heart disease, because of the diminishing hormones. I attempted to cast as wide a net as possible by writing it in a way to entertain as well as inform so the reader can advocate for herself with her doctors and learn how to avoid spiraling out of physical independence in the latter years. This book is the sugar coating on a hard topic not being talked about enough. I wrote it so you won’t have to talk about it outside your physician’s office.
