More from Catherine
In writing my Jo Oliver Thriller series, I find myself driven by passion. The genesis of the series—Cleansed By Death—was fueled by a passion to create a story about strong women embedded in a male-dominated profession, facing difficulties they could only solve through faith and community. I was vacuuming when I was hit by the idea of pitting two strong women against each other and seeing which one would win, the theme of book 2, Shattered by Death. Information gleaned during an FBI writers workshop on techniques for tracking criminals, superimposed over the mitten map of Wisconsin formed the bones for Anchored By Death, the third book in the series. My latest novel, Capsized By Death, contains all of my favorite elements. The astute series reader will note that the foundation for the killer’s appearance in this book was introduced years ago in Cleansed By Death. But he first appeared to me during one of my many solo writing vacations on an island.
At the end of a fairytale day spent kayaking, snorkeling and listening to the sound of whales singing under water in Maui, the gorgeous male host of my day trip stood silhouetted in the setting sun. This man was beautiful in every way, and had the sort of personality that describes the essence of attractive—he pulled you into his beautiful ocean world. At that moment, I knew I had found my perfect killer for my next book! It became my goal to create a killer who was beautiful on the outside and evil on the inside. I used the New Testament book of Jude as my guide for the internal workings of my killer and thus the skeletal framework for Jude, my killer in Capsized By Death—book 4 of the Jo Oliver Thriller series—was born.

My Review
Capsized by Death is the fourth installment from A Jo Oliver Thriller series. It is my first introduction to books written by Catherine Finger and it definitely will not be the last. Since I have not read any of her previous books and this one is part of a series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. I did not feel as though I was lost or missing anything by not reading those.
Capsized by Death is a great read that is full of mystery and suspense. I enjoyed the adventure, danger and action. I liked getting to know Jo Oliver. She was a fun character.
I am giving Capsized by Death four and a half stars. I would love to go back and read the other books from A Jo Oliver Thriller series.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Now that high school is over, Randi just wants to live her quiet life in her little town, but it doesn’t feel right without her friends there. Ever the daredevils, they’ve gone to seek adventure in the capital city of Grandin, and Randi can’t help but feel left behind. Not to mention she definitely can’t stop thinking about that kiss she and Eddy shared before he left.
When Randi discovers a mysterious mark on her skin that matches an illustration in “A Handbook on Paragonhood”, she’s thrown into a world of powerful gods and ancient magic that she thought only existed in the myths. She’ll have to step out of her comfort zone—and into the dangerous streets of Grandin—to find a way to protect herself and the people she loves.
Randi’s not the only one with a secret, though, and she finds herself questioning who she can trust. Randi will have to wrestle with what it means to be a Paragon and how far she’s willing to go to do what’s right.
With the fate of the world on the line, can she live up to being one of the chosen?

Louis comes into view as I round the corner of the restaurant into the simple, well-kept yard. He's facing the other way, holding a wooden staff, not even wearing a coat. I'm about to call out and let him know I'm there, but before I can, he spins in a circle, extending the stick as gracefully as if it were a part of his arm. His movements are soft and flowing as he twists around a large cobbled circle in the middle of the yard. It looks like a gentle dance, but it's evident from the way he maneuvers the stick and guards his torso that it's also a fight.
Louis comes back to a neutral position and bows to an invisible adversary before him. “That was the swan,” he says, making me jump. “And this is the dragon.”
He steps aggressively, each strike hard and fierce. He jabs the staff out before him and twirls, nearly horizontal with it. A few stances later, he accidentally whacks himself in the shoulder with the practice weapon.
He bursts out laughing. “It’s not my best form.” He approaches me while massaging his shoulder. “Good thing you’re not my grandma, or you’d make me practice until I got it right.”
“I like the swan better, anyway.”
“Me too.” He blinks as a raindrop falls on his cheek. We both turn to the sky as thunder rumbles in the distance. “Looks like it’ll be a downpour.”

Serad is the powerful, handsome pirate whose relentless plundering is the stuff of legend—but only a few know that his true identity is Lord Alexander Wakefield. His kidnapping as a child by Barbary pirates changed the course of his life. Now Serad is the master of the seas, accustomed to possessing whatever—or whoever—he wants.
He Stole Her Freedom…
When Serad boards the vessel La Mouette to loot for treasure, he discovers a cargo more precious than any trinket: the heiress Victoria Lawrence. A raven-haired, emerald-eyed beauty, Victoria captivates Serad as no woman ever has before. But the fiery young lady doesn’t seem to understand that she is now a captive, expected to honor her new master’s wishes and desires without question…
But He Must Win Her Heart
When Victoria set sail from India, she expected the voyage to deliver her into the arms of her betrothed—not a heartless gang of pirates. Now captured, she refuses to bow to any man, even one as commanding as Serad. Sharing his cabin, Victoria can barely resist her attraction to her captor. But if she gives in to her desires, Victoria knows Serad will accept nothing less than her total surrender...
Read an Excerpt
Serad headed back to his cabin. He dismissed the guard at the door and let himself in, only to find his entire cabin in disarray. Fury rocked through him, and he moved threateningly into the room, shutting the door behind him.
“What’s been going on here?” he thundered, his steely gaze fixed on Victoria alone as she stood, straight and proud, behind his desk, her hands down at her sides. He knew the gun was in the locked drawer, and he wondered if she’d found it. He didn’t dwell on that too long, for he still thought of her as a spoiled English lady, who wouldn’t know which end of a gun was which.
“Stay right there,” Victoria ordered, lifting the pistol. “I’m a dead shot and I’ll use it if I have to.”
Serad was angry, and he found it hard to believe that the emerald-eyed, determined woman holding his pistol pointed directly at his heart was the same inane, sophisticated beauty he’d dealt with up on deck.
“Just what do you plan to do with that?” Serad asked in a deceptively calm voice.
“I plan to make you let us go.”
“With one bullet?” His expression turned sardonic.
“One bullet is all it would take to kill you.”
“But after I’m dead, then what?”
“I have no intention of shooting you unless you force me to.”
“I’m relieved to hear that,” Serad mocked, deliberately trying to anger her. There was no way he was going to allow her to reach the deck holding a pistol on him. She was his captive, his slave. It was time she accepted the inevitable.

My Review:
Alycat and the Tournament Tuesday is me and my family’s first introduction to Alysson Foti Bourque’s Alycat series. I enjoyed reading this book with my kids. We loved the cute and delightful little story. Alycat, her brother Bugsy, and her friends learn some valuable lessons in this book. I thought it was a great influence for my children to learn something important about life. A lot of which a lot of us big kids could learn from, as well. Bugsy has to learn that it is not the material things that is important, it is determination, practice and hard work is what matters most. There are couple of other things that we could learn throughout the book, as well.
Not only is Alycat and Tournament Tuesday a great little tale, I loved the illustrations. Chiara Civati’s talent shines through bringing this story to life. The pictures are bright and vibrant that perfectly goes with the scenes. I think they visually keep the chidren’s attention. Which is hard to do sometimes with the little ones.
I am giving Alycat and the Tournament Tuesday a very well deserved five plus stars. I would give it one hundred if we could. My kids and I look forward to reading the other books from the Alycat series in the near future. We are proudly donating our copy of this one to their school library so their friends can enjoy it, as well. I am sure they will love it as much as we do.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Writing about the WW1 era has definitely been a good history lesson for me. Prohibition laws in Oregon (and rum-runners breaking them) combined with a massive war that changed the world and a global epidemic is worth paying attention to. Especially since history sometimes repeats itself. The early 20th century had a lot going on—much that seems nearly forgotten. I’m glad to see the movie 1917 is doing well—and we plan to see it this week. Although I’m not a fan of gruesome war movies, this era continues to intrigue me. Even as I wrapped up my Sunset Cove series with Turning Tide I was left wondering . . . what’s next? But isn’t that the beauty of story?Blog Stops

My Review
Turning Tide is the newest and fourth installment from Melody Carlson’s series, The Legacy of Sunset Cove. I have loved the other books in this series and this one is among my favorite. Even though it is part of the series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. However, I do recommend to reading the first three books first.
In Turning Tide, readers are brought back to the beautiful Sunset Cove during World War I. There were some scenes that had me on edge with some twists that I did not expect. I love the lessons learned while reading this and seeing the beauty of what hope and faith brings. I enjoyed the strength and courage of the women during this time in history.
I am giving Turning Tide a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy inspiring, clean and historical fiction.
