What’s going on with the Thatcher sisters?

Readers have asked me this question so often since The Best We’ve Been, the third and what I considered final book in the Thatcher Sisters Series, which released in May 2020. In the series, Payton, Jillian, and Johanna each had their moment center stage. Some readers told me they’d come to understand and, yes, even like older sister Johanna. Quite a feat, considering how she annoyed readers in book one, Things I Never Told You.

I ended the series with the trio of sisters in a good place – the best they’d ever been.        The circumstances of their lives weren’t all tied off in nice, neat bows, but then real life isn’t like that, is it? And as the author, I was content to leave the sisters there and let readers imagine what happened next.

And then 2020 disrupted life for all of us. For me? Writing didn’t happen. I promised myself I would dive back into story in 2021. What better way than with a Christmas novella? So many readers love Christmas stories. And what better time to revisit Payton, Jillian, and Johanna and answer readers’ question: What’s going on with the Thatcher sisters?

I wasn’t sure myself. Part of the fun of writing is rediscovering well-known characters as you discover a new story. Set against the backdrop of Christmas? That was just an added blessing.

It’s been Christmas time for me throughout 2021 – a time to enjoy family traditions and face some unexpected changes. Welcome back to the Thatcher family!

My Review

Unpacking Christmas: A Thatcher Sisters Christmas is a great story by Beth K Vogt. I found this quick novella to be a wonderful tale to get anyone ready for the most wonderful time of the year. I adored this family and enjoyed spending time with them. I did find it to be quite inspirational and heartwarming. With less than one hundred fifty pages, I was entertained from start to finish. 

I am giving Unpacking Christmas: A Thatcher Sisters Christmas a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who are looking for sweet and clean Christmas reads. I would love to read more like this by Beth K Vogt in the future.

Beth K. Vogt is a nonfiction author and editor who said she’d never write fiction. She’s the wife of an Air Force family physician (now in solo practice) who said she’d never marry a doctor—or anyone in the military. She’s a mom of four who said she’d never have kids. I’m launching Moments We Forget, book two in the Thatcher Sisters series, and I’ve just turned in the final book in the series. I’d love to share book three’s title with you, but I don’t know what it is. (Of course, book three might have a final title by the time you read this—that’s part of the fun of prerelease deadlines.)

One thing I do know: the theme of “Little Women gone wrong” is woven through all of the books . . . thanks to the Thatcher sisters: Payton, Pepper, Jillian, and Johanna.

Sisters, be they real or imaginary, can be complicated.

Of course, there are sisters who have close relationships. They “get” each other and love doing life together.

But then there are the sister relationships that are like mismatched socks. Or those expensive jeans you loved in the store, but when you bring them home, they never quite live up to those moments in the dressing room.

Such are the Thatcher sisters. Johanna, Jillian, Payton, and Pepper grew up in the same family. They’re all tall. They love Broncos football and board games. But in so many ways their lives are like different movies because they each made different choices. Choices that changed and separated them. Moments We Forget continues to explore whether the Thatcher sisters can find a way to understand each other enough to bridge the distance between them.

My Review

Beth Vogt is the master at writing an emotional filled novel and Moments We Forget is no different.  The characters are likeable and relatable going through true to life events. I loved Jillian right the beginning. Having many friends who fought through cancer, I was rooting for her. I could see their strength and bravery in her. Her story made me want to grab a box of tissues at times.

I would give Moments We Forget one hundred stars if I could but will have to settle with five stars. I do want to note that I was not aware this book was part of the Thatcher series. I have only read this one of the series. With that being said, in my opinion, it could be read as a stand alone.

Moments We Forget is a great book! One of my favorites of the year. I highly recommend this book. It is most definitely not one to be missed.
