Review: Where the Fire Falls (Shadows of the Wilderness #2) by Karen Barnett

Blurb (from Amazon):

Stunning Yosemite National Park sets the stage for this late 1920s historical romance with mystery, adventure, heart, and a sense of the place John Muir described as "pervaded with divine light."

Watercolorist Olivia Rutherford has shed her humble beginnings to fashion her image as an avant-garde artist to appeal to the region's wealthy art-collectors. When she lands a lucrative contract painting illustrations of Yosemite National Park for a travel magazine, including its nightly one-of-a-kind Firefall event, she hopes the money will lift Olivia and her sisters out of poverty.

After false accusations cost him everything, former minister Clark Johnson has found purpose as a backcountry guide in this natural cathedral of granite and trees. Now he's faced with the opportunity to become a National Parks Ranger, but is it his true calling?

As Clark opens Olivia's eyes to the wonders of Yosemite, she discovers the people are as vital to the park's story as its vistas--a revelation that may bring her charade to an end.

My Review:

Where the Fire Falls is a good addition to Karen Barnett's Shadows of the Wilderness series. I enjoyed spending time in the Yosemite National Park, as well as, Olivia. She goes on quite of an adventure that I did not see coming. I liked getting to know Clark and found him to be a good sidekick for Olivia.

I give Where the Fire Falls 4 stars and can not wait for book three from this series to release. Great story!

I received this from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Review: Haunting the Deep (How to Hang a Witch #2) by Adriana Mather

Blurb (from Amazon):

Samantha Mather knew her family’s connection to the infamous Salem Witch Trials might pose obstacles to an active social life. But having survived one curse, she never thought she’d find herself at the center of a new one.

This time, Sam is having recurring dreams about the Titanic . . . where she’s been walking the deck with first-class passengers, like her aunt and uncle. Meanwhile, in Sam’s waking life, strange missives from the Titanic have been finding their way to her, along with haunting visions of people who went down with the ship.

Ultimately, Sam and the Descendants, along with some help from heartthrob Elijah, must unravel who is behind the spell that is drawing her ever further into the dream ship . . . and closer to sharing the same grim fate as its ghostly passengers.

My Review:

Haunting the Deep is the second installment from the How to Hang a Witch series. This was just an okay read for me. I had a hard time having a connection to the characters. The plot was painfully slow and confusing at times. I just could not get into it, to be honest. I did like the Titanic parts the most. They were the best part of the book. I do believe others would enjoy this one, but it just was not a read for me.

2 1/2 stars.

Review Days to Joy: A One-Month Creative Journal

Blurb (from Barnes and Noble):

Choose Joy!
Joy is more than happiness. It is something you feel deep in your soul that stays with you even when circumstances get tough. With quotes and artistic prompts, this daily creative journal offers the deep, life-giving drink of joy that you need. Whether you are sketching a picture of a favorite activity, jotting down words that make you laugh, or spending time meditating on a Bible verse, you will find renewed joy in these fun and thought-provoking pages.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
—Galatians 5:22–23

My Review:

30 Days to Joy: A One-Month Creative Journal  is among my favorite journals I have owned. It is small and easy to take anywhere. Do not let the size for you as it is full of faith, inspiration, and joy.  Each day has an inspirational saying or Bible verse referring to Joy.  There are, also, a couple of pages that one can answer questions by writing or making their own illustrations. And there are beautiful designs that can be used for coloring . The following sections are at the end of the journal:
Create your playlist -  where 30 joyful songs can be listed
What I have learned about myself-two pages that can be used for illustration or writing
Where do I go from here-two pages that can be used for illustration  or writing
About the author-the owner of the journal fills out this page to tell about themselves
Acknowledgments - the owner of the journal fills out this page thanking those who have brought them joy into their life.
I think this would make a fabulous gift! I cannot wait to see the reaction from my friend when she receives hers from me.
Highly recommended.
100 stars.
