More from Liana and Angie

If you were to do a Google search for books related to the topic of organizing, you’d see a wide range of options—from books on decluttering your home to the best way to manage your time. But nowhere on the list would you see the Bible listed as a resource.

Why? Because most people don’t consider the Bible to have much to say on the topic. But they’d be wrong. The Bible is full of organizational principles waiting to be mined!

That’s why we wrote the devotional, Uncluttered: Shaping Your Heart & Home for What Matters Most. We wanted to show people—in a non-judgmental format—that God has a lot to say on the subject.

Here’s one example:

Day 12

A Time to Let Go

”… a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away …”

Ecclesiastes 3:5-6 (NIV)

It was time.

The soles of my favorite silver sandals were worn paper-thin. Ten years of constant use had taken its toll. Every time I slipped those shoes on for an outing, I knew I would slide them off in pain.

It was time I let go.

But I couldn’t. I was certain I would never find another pair of sandals with such unique style and flair. They were my go-to shoes, my favorites, the ones I couldn’t travel without. How could I possibly get rid of them? Yet, my season for these beautiful sandals had surpassed the time they were intended. They did the job they were supposed to do—and then some. It was only fitting that I say goodbye to them so I could make space for a new pair.

It was time I let go for good.

While you may not have trouble parting with a certain pair of shoes, you likely have other items in your home that you are endeared to—your old, comfy jeans; the worn-out stuffed animal that’s missing an eye; the trophies you won in high school that remind you of your glory days.

There was a proper season for those things, but now it may be time to let them go once and for all. It’s never easy, but it’s usually necessary. When we do, we are no longer bound by things that tie us down, bring us stress, or cause us pain. Instead, we can live with peace and freedom.

But we’ll never see those results if we continue to cling to the things that no longer serve us. It’s only when we let go that we can receive what’s waiting for us in the next season of life.

Prayer

Father, give me the strength I need to remove the unnecessary so the essential has first place in my life. Help me make room for that which serves me well and brings glory to You. Loosen my grip on what I need to let go of so my hands will be free to receive all You have for me.

Now, Unclutter It!

When is it time to let go?

How do you know when it’s time to let go of a pair of shoes, a piece of clothing, an unused kitchen appliance, or anything else in your house? Is it a feeling you get, or are there visual indications that an item you own is no longer serving you?

While there’s no definitive guide to dictate when or what to remove from your home, here are a few signs it might be time to part ways with your physical stuff:

  • Dust collecting on the item
  • Tears/rips, broken or missing parts, rendering it useless
  • It’s been crammed in the back of your drawer or closet, and you haven’t missed it
  • It no longer works properly and makes it hard to use
  • You have no idea what it is or how to use it You’ve had it for a while, and it’s still in its original packaging, untouched, or has the price tag attached
  • Its “best by” date has passed

As you work through different rooms or spaces in your house, keep this list handy to help you determine whether or not to hold onto an item. In most cases, you’ll find you can probably discard or donate the item without any regrets. Whatever it was had its season in your life. Now, it’s time to let it go.

Reflection: Which of these signs did you notice most often as you worked through your stuff? What does that indicate to you?

We hope you’ll find Uncluttered to be a valuable resource, not only for your heart but for your home as well.

My Review

Uncluttered: Shaping Your Heart & Home for What Matters Most is a great 28 day devotional by Liana George and Angie Hyche. Each day is only seven and eight pages long. The days include: scripture, commentary, prayer, a writing prompt for an area that a reader can unclutter, and a reflection. There is ample space provided to be written on. I liked this devotional and thought it is a great way to help relieve the stresses of life and finding ways to get rid of chaos that is cluttering.

I am giving Uncluttered: Shaping Your Heart & Home for What Matters Most five stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read devotionals.

I received a paperback copy of George and Hyche's Uncluttered: Shaping Your Heart & Home for What Matters Most from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Nicki Mayfield’s Guide to Preparing for the Unexpected

At the beginning of Perfectly Matched, Nicki Mayfield and Ben Carrington are about to tie the knot AND adopt a toddler. Being a wife and a mother are foreign concepts to Nicki, who never dreamed she’d be either. Especially not within such a short timeframe!

However, just as Nicki and Ben began to move forward with their new family, a shocking revelation threatens their happily ever after and throws their perfectly arranged plans out the window. Thankfully, being a professional organizer Nicki knows how to prepare for a surprise or two.

Here are Nicki’s five best tips for preparing for those unexpected moments in life:

  1. Don’t panic. That usually only makes things worse! Take a few deep breaths, pray, and see if you can get a clear understanding of what’s going on so you can get a handle on the situation.
  2. Devise a temporary plan. Knowing that things are not going according to plan doesn’t mean you have to jump ship completely. See if you can come up with an alternate plan to carry you through the next few hours, days, or weeks until you can get back to your original agenda.
  3. Stand together, not divided. Don’t let the unexpected cause division – either mentally, relationally, physically, or spiritually. Now more than ever you and your friends/family/significant other need to band together. Find ways to make that happen—even if it might be costly—because you’ll need all the support you can get during those turbulent times.
  4. Don’t make assumptions and give up. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment, assume the worst, and be tempted to quit. Don’t! Keep the faith and keep fighting until you’re absolutely certain there are no other options left.
  5. See the unexpected as a blessing rather than a curse. While we may not enjoy the interruption of an unexpected circumstance, it might just be part of God’s divine plans. If it is, then you can expect a blessing to come from it, regardless of how dim the situation may look at the moment.

See how well Nicki follows her own advice and handles all the unexpected twists and turns she faces in Perfectly Matched, book three in the Hopeful Heart Series, releasing April 4, 2023.

My Review

Perfectly Matched is the third installment from Liana George’s Hopeful Hearts series. It was great catching up with the main character from the previous books of the series, Nicki. Just win. Everything seems to be going perfectly well for her, things take a turn. I liked the mystery she and Ben must solve so they can continue with their future. The book involves some heavy issues and the author did a great job to cover them realistically. I had no problem reading it in one sitting.

I am giving Perfectly Matched 4 and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean fiction. I am curious to see what else Liana George has in store for her fans and readers in any of her future releases.

I received a digital copy of Perfectly Matched from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

More from Liana

Have you ever eaten at a Chinese restaurant and taken a fortune cookie with you when you left? Yeah, me too. For the longest time, I always associated these Pac-Man shaped treats with Chinese food and by extension, Chinese culture.

I was wrong.

The tsujiura senbei,” or “fortune cracker,” actually originated in Japan and was brought over to the United States sometime between the late 1800s and early 1900s by immigrants. Japanese bakers first began selling and making these crackers in California and Hawaii. With their unique taste and finger-sized slip of paper printed with a pithy fortune or aphorism, they quickly became a hit.

Today, the fascination with these cookies is still at an all-time high, but the ingredients have changed. Originally, they were made with miso and sesame flavoring but now they use butter and vanilla to give it that sweet taste you and I are so familiar with.

So, why am I telling you all this?

Because my novel, Perfectly Placed, book 2 in The Hopeful Heart Series, begins with the main character, Nicki Mayfield, breaking into a fortune cookie and discovering a proverb that will motivate her and move her to action. What was written on that tiny slip of paper? There’s only one way to find out. Grab a copy of Perfectly Placed – and a cookie or two – and start reading!

My Review

Perfectly Placed is the second installment from Liana George’s Hopeful Heart series. I have not read the first book in the series, Perfectly Arranged, but feel that it would have been best to start the series with book one. After trying to catch up with happened previously, I enjoyed reading Nicki’s story and thought it was a pretty read. It had a lot going on – mystery, suspense, adventure, twists and turns. It, also, played a lot on my emotions at times. I liked it.

I am giving Perfectly Placed four stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean and inspiring fiction. I look forward to the next book from the Hopeful Heart series to see what happens next.
