Blog Tour and Giveaway: His Pretend Amish Bride by Rachel J Good

About the Book

Book:  His Pretend Amish Bride
Author: Rachel J. Good
Genre:  Amish Romance
Release Date: June 30, 2020

In a small Amish town like Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, one solution to an indiscretion is to get married. Or perhaps, fake a respectable engagement . . .

Priscilla Ebersol has a fulfilling life teaching special needs children—until her boyfriend’s humiliating betrayal ruins her reputation and threatens her job. Shunned for something she didn’t do, Priscilla throws herself into a project on the benefits of camel’s milk for autism. Her research leads her to a newly opened Amish camel farm, where she discovers far more than she bargained for. . .

When a pushy Englisch company shows interest in shy, handsome Gabriel Kauffman’s camel farm, he struggles to get out of a sticky negotiation. Lovely, well-spoken Priscilla appears at the perfect moment and defends Gabe’s business so well that she is mistaken for his wife, a pretense they both secretly wish could be true. But though their bond deepens, Priscilla’s heart is still wounded, and Gabe battles with a troubling secret. And when a misunderstanding comes between them, it will take faith, honesty, and trust in God to overcome the past—and to allow their partnership to blossom into something more.

More from Rachel

A few years ago, I passed Amish camel farm in Bird-in-Hand, PA. As an author, seeing anything new or different always piques my interest, so I went for a visit. Not only did I explore the farm and store, I bought camel’s milk to drink. I think it’s important to do in-depth research for the settings and information I include in my Amish novels.

I was fascinated to discover camels usually bond to one milker, only give a little milk each day, and are extremely expensive to buy. All of those are reasons why camel’s milk is so expensive. It costs $15 for a pint. Much pricier than cow’s milk.

And if you’re wondering how camel’s milk tastes, the best way I can think of to describe it is a slightly salty version of powdered milk. It’s more watery than cow’s milk.

Because I grew up drinking powdered milk during my early childhood years when we lived in Africa, I’d always vowed never again to drink it once we moved back to the United States. A vow I’ve kept. That was never a problem living in Pennsylvania, where there’s plenty of farmland, cow, and Amish, of course.

The camel’s milk was enough like powdered milk to make me gag. But because I want to be sure my books are authentic, I drank it. So, readers, now you know how much a I care about you.

My concern for you also extends to more than just getting factual information correct. I pray for each and every one of you as I write my stories. I hope that they will touch your heart and bring you closer to God.

My Review

I enjoyed the first book from Rachel J Good’s Unexpected Amish Blessings series, His Unexpected Amish Twins. So, I was excited to have the opportunity to read the second installment, His Pretend Amish Bride. Even though it is part of a series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. This one is by far my favorite that I have read by Miss Good to date. I loved the unique storyline involving a camel farm. I learned so much about camels that I have never heard of before. I was really fascinated with their benefits. Priscilla and Gabriel were great characters and I enjoyed their chemistry.

I am giving His Pretend Amish Bride a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it. I cannot wait for the fall release of the third addition to the Unexpected Amish Blessings series, His Accidental Amish Family. I already have it added to my wish list.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

More from Rachel

The story idea for The Amish Widow’s Secret came to me after I’d just finished reading stories to my Amish friend’s children to give her a little break. She was expecting a new baby, and while we sat in their kitchen enjoying a snack, her husband came in. The tenderness in his eyes as they talked made my eyes well with tears. It was obvious how much they loved each other, and they both supported each other. A perfect companionship. Not everyone gets to experience that bond, that caring. It made me wonder what she’d do without him, and the seeds of a story was born. I decided to explore how a widow would cope with a pregnancy and two children alone. In the Amish community, of course, no one is ever left on their own. Everyone chips in to help. So, what if the handsome and reclusive bachelor next door felt obligated to help, but wanted to avoid getting involved? Would he eventually soften his heart toward children and love? As I wrote, I wondered if Elijah Beiler could get over a previous heartbreak. He needed to face his past before he moved forward, so I gave him that opportunity. A surprise visit and unwelcome news force Elijah to rethink everything he believes about parenting and love. And about the person who destroyed his world. He also needs to face the bitterness he’s been harboring. Sometimes learning more about the circumstances or reasons of the person who has hurt us causes us to see the whole situation in a new light, making it easier to let go of the hurt. That’s what happens to Elijah. I hope his journey will encourage readers to consider the places in their lives where they’ve been holding onto pain and reevaluate those experiences in the light of God’s forgiveness and love. To write this story, I needed to do that too.

My Review

The Amish Widow’s Rescue is the third installment from Rachel J Good’s series, Love and Promises. Though it is the third book in the series, I feel it can be read as a stand alone. I have not read the previous books and did not feel as though I was missing anything. However, I would like to catch up on those books in the near future.

The Amish Widow’s Rescue is a pretty good read. I felt connected to Grace Fisher right from the start. Her and Elijah both had their share of struggles that they needed to get through. I wanted to keep reading on to find out how they would do so. I like the life lessons of learning how to forgive, how to have faith, how to trust and having second chances.

I am giving The Amish Widow’s Rescue four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy well written, clean and sweet Amish stories.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Blog Tour: Review and Giveaway: Love's Thankful Heart by Laura V Hilton / Rachel J Good / Thomas Nye

About the Book

Author: Laura V. Hilton, Rachel J. good, Thomas Nye
Genre: Amish Thanksgiving Collection
Release Date: November 1, 2017

Gingerbread Wishes As Thanksgiving approaches, Becca Troyer finds herself overwhelmed with an abundance of winter squash and pumpkins that she isn’t a bit thankful for. Desperately trying to sell them at a farmer’s market so she won’t have mountains to can, she’s surprised when a mime drops to his knee in front of her and proposes marriage. Yost Miller is helping the volunteer firefighter raise funds at the city park when he notices his long-time crush Becca selling vegetables. Drawn across the grass, he spontaneously proposes marriage. But afterward, Yost isn’t sure how to proceed to show her that his feelings are real. Just as he begins to find solid footing, confidence is yanked away, leaving him floundering. Will he lose Becca to another man? Or will this Thanksgiving be a season of blessings and wishes come true?

Thanksgiving Strangers Faithe Beiler believes God wants her to feed the poor at her family’s restaurant, but when she mistakes Crist Petersheim for a homeless man and gives him a free breakfast, he’s offended. Yet he can’t help being intrigued by this pretty waitress with a giving heart. Crist blames God for the tragedies in his life, so the last thing he wants is to get involved with an Amish girl, who trusts God in all circumstances. He fears for Faithe’s safety, though, when she invites every homeless person in the neighborhood, including drug dealers and criminals, to a free Thanksgiving dinner. Street savvy, Crist risks his life to protect her from danger. As Crist’s heart softens toward God, Faithe finds herself falling him. Then she discovers his deception, and her world is shattered. Can she ever trust him again?

Thanksgiving Frolic Monroe has the prettiest girl and the fastest horse— but pride goes before a fall. Monroe’s girlfriend, Rosemary, and her family organize the Thanksgiving Frolic, a service project to help Amish folks who have fallen on hard times. Monroe wants to go along but his dad won’t let him. Furthermore, Monroe’s dad thinks Rosemary’s family should clean up their own messy farm before they try to help others. Will the contrast between Monroe’s and Rosemary’s families end their relationship for good? Rosemary’s grandpa tries to offer words of wisdom, but people don’t take him seriously. The Thanksgiving Frolic heats up to a fever pitch, before a moment of silence changes everything.

My Review

Love's Thankful Heart is a great collection of three Amish stories by three different authors, surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday. These stories include:
Gingerbread Wishes by Laura V Hilton - A sweet story of Becca Troyer and Yost Miller
Thanksgiving Strangers by Rachel J Good - Faithful Faithe Beiler, who meets struggling Crist Petersheim
Thanksgiving Frolic by Thomas Nye - A Romeo and Juliet type story between Rosemary and Monroe

I enjoyed every one of these stories. If I had to pick a favorite of the three, it would have to be Rachel J Good's Thanksgiving Strangers. Thanksgiving Frolic is my first introduction to Thomas Nye's writing. I have not read anything by him before and I hope to read more by him in the future.

The whole collection is full of faith and inspiration that will warm a reader's heart, and a great reminder about the power of forgiveness.

I recommend this touching book and give it 4 stars.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
