Spotlight Book Tour and Giveaway: Dear Hero by Hope Bolinger and Alyssa Roat

Book Details:

Book Title:  DEAR HERO by Alyssa Roat & Hope Bolinger
Category:  YA Fiction (Ages 13-17),  394 pages
Genre:  YA Romance, Superheroes, Chat Fiction, Humor
Publisher:  Torchflame Books
Release date:  October, 2024
Content RatingPG-13 for MCU-level superhero violence; PG when it comes to language and sexual content (kissing).
Book Description:

There's an app for everything--even meeting a new nemesis.

Up-and-coming teen superhero Cortex is on top of the world—at least, until his villain dumps him. If he’s going to save his reputation, he needs a new villain to fight, and fast. Meanwhile, the villainous Vortex has once again gotten a little overeager and taken out a hero prematurely. Will any young hero be able to keep up with her? Maybe she should work on finding a steady relationship with an enemy she won’t kill in the first round.

Enter Meta-Match, a nemesis pairing site for heroes and villains. The two match right away, and after throwing punches at each other behind coffee shops, practicing their fight choreography, and hiring henchmen to do their bidding (mostly just getting them coffee), they realize they have a lot more in common than names that annoyingly rhyme. After all, they're still rising through the ranks in their respective circles, and their reputations need good press.

But not everything in the superhero world is as it seems. Can a hero really trust a villain to do the right thing? And can a villain trust a hero not to screw them over? As darkness from the past threatens them both, they may need each other for the fight to come—one with much higher stakes than their choreographed meet-ups on weekends.

Told entirely through texts, transcriptions, and direct messages, this darkly humorous chat fiction rom-com goes behind the scenes of the superworld.

Guest Post:

Should I Write with a Coauthor?

Should you collaborate with another author? All of us can remember group projects at school—where sometimes you paired with the perfect person…and sometimes you did all the work yourself.

So what about writing a book? How do you know you’re a good coauthor pair?

First, how adaptable are you?

In coauthor relationships, there’s a temptation to take the reins, but the goal is to form the story together, equally.

This may mean killing some darlings or giving up some ideas that you so desperately wanted to include.

If you can adapt well, you may be able to work with a coauthor.

Second, can you stick with a schedule?

If you and your coauthor have a deadline, you will need to find ways to meet said-deadline. Everyone has a different capacity for this. Some people can write 3000 words a day, some can write 500.

Talk with a potential coauthor about their writing style and habits and see if it aligns with yours.

Third, are you having fun?

Writing, sadly, is the easiest part of the process. Edits, marketing, etc. take up a huge chunk of time and energy.

If you find you don’t have fun writing with a certain person, you may not want to pair with them to coauthor a story. And that’s okay! A book is a huge commitment. The two of you will share hundreds of pages together, and countless hours. You want to make sure to enjoy the process.

Every coauthor pair works differently. It never hurts to experiment, and worst case scenario, you stop the project together. I (Hope) am so glad to have tried to coauthor books with Alyssa, and am so grateful for all the ways she pushed me to become a better writer.

My Review

I have previously had the pleasure of reading Christian fiction and romance that the writing duo, Hope Bolinger and Alyssa Roat, have written. I was instantly curious to see what they young adult series, The Dear Series, was all about. I was not disappointed when I had the opportunity to read Dear Hades. The co authors' have written a fun and entertaining book to read. The format of text messages to tell the story was unique for me. There were a few times I found myself laughing out loud as to what was going on. It was definitely not one that was easy to predict as to what was going to happen next. I enjoyed the interactions between Medusa and Ty. I have to say those two were down right hilarious. I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed their tale.

I am going to give Dear Hades a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading young adult fiction and romance novels, particularly those with lots of humor included. I would be interested to see what else occurs from The Dear Series. Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger have doubt shown me that they can tackle any genre as a team. I believe this one should not be missed.

I received a digital copy of Roat and Bolinger’s Dear Hades from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Getting Reel by Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger

About the Book

Book:
Getting Reel

Authors: Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger

Genre: Christian Sweet Contemporary Romance

Release Date: August 5, 2023

When explosive personalities collide, can a control-freak director and last-chance actress work together to win a film competition?

Ryan Torino loves the feeling of control, especially when it comes to his photography work and indie movies. And when he gets the opportunity to enter an indie film festival—rumored to have Hollywood bigwigs attending—he can’t afford for anything to be less than perfect, especially the casting of his leading role.

Enter Zinnia Preston, who has been trying to break into the acting scene since college. Now in her late twenties and working the not-job-of-her-dreams, Zinnia knows this indie film project may be her last chance to make it onto the screen. Ryan is intimidated by Zinnia’s strong personality, but he can’t deny she’s the one for the job. Meanwhile, Zinnia wants to throttle Ryan for his perfectionistic tendencies, but she needs this gig.

The tension between the two threatens to derail the project, and to both of their frustration, clashing visions aren’t the only reason sparks seem to fly every time they interact. When an old nemesis arrives back in town, Zinnia and Ryan will need to set aside their differences and work together to have a chance at winning. If not, they can kiss that Hollywood riding-into-the-sunset ending goodbye.

More from the Authors

Something many people don’t know about me (Hope) is that I’d planned to go into film before college. I did an internship at a great Christian film company my senior year of high school.

And I’m actually dating someone who had worked for Netflix and Disney for a while.

Even Alyssa, my coauthor, did a semester in LA to learn all about film.

So why did all of us leave it?

Well, we felt called to publishing instead. As for my boyfriend, he’s waiting for that next door. Perhaps it’ll be opened by the time this post goes up.

In the book, we tackle not only the film industry, but the idea of control. I think, if we’re honest with ourselves, we like to micromanage whatever we can. Alyssa and I each wrote a character whose circumstances are way beyond their control.

Zinnia feels like she’s too old to jump into the Hollywood scene now. And Ryan feels torn between his love of film and the pressures his family puts on him to join their business.

The entire cast of characters seems to want to control everything.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say—like Alyssa and myself—the characters do have to learn how to put their plans in God’s hands. Knowing that whether or not he allows them to continue into the world of film, that he has everything under control.

And maybe we as readers need that reminder too.

That no matter if we’re being controlling, or have someone in our lives who is trying to micromanage everything, ultimately, we have a powerful Creator who knows the number of hairs on our heads.

It was bittersweet to end this series with Alyssa, our last coauthored work together. I don’t know when we will get a chance to coauthor again, but hopefully we can.

This process has taught us about control. Letting go, letting other ideas in. Knowing that book deadlines and publication dates don’t always go to plan.

And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Review

Getting Reel is the fourth installment from the Roseville Romances series by the dynamic author duo, Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger. I have had the pleasure of reading the previous books from this series and was honored to have the chance to continue it with this one. Even though it is part of a series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. I adored the characters, Zinnia and Ryan, and their story. It was sweet and inspiring to read.

I am giving Getting Reel four and a half stars. I believe fans of Christian Sweet Contemporary Romance would want to snatch this one up. I am curious to see what other stories the Roat - Bolinger writing team has in store for their readers in the future.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Picture Imperfect by Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger

About the Book

Book:
Picture Imperfect

Authors: Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger

Genre: Christian Sweet Contemporary Romance

Release Date: November 5, 2021

Can a struggling career woman and a procrastinating artist save a beloved nonprofit?

Aspiring novelist Caroline Penn expected a promotion, not a picture book assignment. But when her employer, the non-profit Helping Hope, runs into financial trouble, this book might be the solution. With the company struggling to stay afloat, she and the illustrator will need to collaborate on a strict deadline—no problem for a workaholic like Caroline, right?

Andy Jackson, a “starving” artist, pays the bills by taking on graphic design gigs, but his perfectionism gets in the way. If only he could focus on a project for once, perhaps he could achieve his dream to make art for children for a living.

When the two are thrust together to create a book, Caroline can’t seem to write for children, and Andy can’t meet a deadline to save his life. As time ticks down to release day, the two must face their pasts and insecurities. If they can avoid strangling one another for long enough, they may just bring to the table what the other is missing.

If not, the fate of their careers—and a beloved nonprofit—hangs in the balance.

More from the Authors

Alyssa and I never thought we’d write a sweet romance book together. Sure, we’d done a superhero romance during the summer of 2018, but we didn’t think we had the prowess or mastery of description to make a jump into the genre.

Long story short, we were perfectionists. We wanted everything to be just right. We knew that our publisher was in need of filling a hole that some romance authors had left behind.

So we tried.

We really struggled with the first draft of Picture Imperfect. We felt shaky about it at first.

But then we learned along with our characters. That there is beauty in imperfection. That there is hope for all of us.

We decided to let go and embrace the book for what it was. Messy, but still beautiful in its own way.

Looking back, as the final book for the series releases this week, I am so happy that we jumped into the world of Picture Imperfect. We learned a great deal from these characters, and it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to the world of Roseville.

If you’re looking to see a story of redemption, hope, and embracing life’s hiccups, I hope you absolutely fall in love with Picture Imperfect.

It was funny because we both took on characters that we felt reflected our coauthor. When I (Hope) wrote Andy, I saw many aspect of Alyssa in him. And when she penned Caroline, we saw many glimpses of “Hope” as well.

There was something so beautiful and emphatic about jumping into the shoes of characters who felt different from us. We could understand other creative processes and embrace people for all their intricacies.

Thank you for joining us on this journey, and hope that you love Andy and Caroline as much as we did when we first wrote them.

Sincerely,

Hope and Alyssa <3

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Curtain Call by Hope Bolinger and Alyssa Roat

About the Book

Book:
Curtain Call

Authors: Hope Bolinger & Alyssa Roat

Genre: Sweet Contemporary Romance

Release date: November 5, 2022

With their future in theater on the line, can a newbie actress and overwhelmed playwright put on a production to remember?

Part-time thespian Griffith Williams can’t seem to do anything right in his parents’ eyes, especially compared to his brother, a missionary in the Dominican Republic. But if he can pull off the biggest play of the year, the Christmas play, he could win a job as a full-time director, and prove to himself—and his family—that he hasn’t mistaken his calling to the arts.

Would-be actress Hadassah Wright spends her days teaching and corralling her many, many younger siblings in a large homeschool family. Her only escape seems to be through marriage to a childhood not-so-sweetheart—until a casting call for a local play provides an opportunity to act, perhaps for the last time.

When the two end up as leads in the play, the chemistry they feel isn’t just on the stage. Hadassah finds refuge from familial pressures through helping Griffith at the theater, and Griffith finds a kindred spirit in Hadassah’s longing to pursue the art she loves.

But when an envious stage manager, a director with far too many demands, and a relentless suitor threaten to derail the show, will the curtains close on any chance of romance?

More from Alyssa

When you think of calling, what comes to mind? Pastoral calling? A call to missions?

What about a call to theater?

Hope and I (Alyssa) found ourselves with a feeling of calling from a young age. We both felt the Lord leading us to writing and publishing.

I, for one, didn’t listen too well at first. Writing? But I wanted to serve God! I wanted to live a life that mattered for God’s kingdom! So instead, I studied math and science to prepare for a future in the medical field so I could work in medical missions.

The problem was, I didn’t enjoy it. Words beckoned to me. Books and writing gave me deep joy other endeavors never quite could. But if I didn’t go into traditional ministry, how was I supposed to serve God?

In Curtain Call, our characters struggle with calling. Griffith feels pressure to be a missionary like his brother. Hadassah feels obligated to be a good wife and mother like her own mom and sister. But they never feel quite as alive, quite as themselves, as when they’re on the stage. Is it possible that God might…want them there?

As you may have guessed, I eventually learned that God calls all of us to different things. He put the love of words inside of me. He guided me to writing, and doing what He has called me to do brings the greatest joy of all.

As Hadassah and Griffith in the book struggle with identifying their calling, I pray that we all may explore the unique joys and talents the Lord planted within each of us. We hope you enjoy reading Curtain Call as much as we enjoyed writing it. May His still, small voice lead you on the adventure of a lifetime.

My Review

Curtain Call is the third installment from the Roseville Romances series by Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger. I have enjoyed the previous books in the series and I believe this oen is probably my favorite to date. I loved getting to know Griffith and Hadassah. They were fun and entertaining in every scenes. I thought the story was sweet, romantic and at times “dramatic”. It was slightly predictable but still a pure delight to read. I really thought it was a great read and I liked it.

I am giving Curtain Call four and a half stars. Readers and fans of clean romantic fiction. I am hoping Roat / Bolinger will be continuing to add book books to the Roseville Romances series.

More from Alyssa

In college, Hope and I (Alyssa) didn’t know the word “no.” After all, our professors, advisors, and chapel speakers all told us, “Say yes to every opportunity. Volunteer for everything. If you don’t do it now, it will be too late. Your career will fail. You won’t please God. Etc. Etc.”

So we followed that advice, and we well-nigh burned ourselves out. Faced with a litany of health issues caused by overworking, we realized after college that maybe we had taken things too far. So we began to work on unlearning this mindset.

To this day, we have to call each other and ask, “Is it okay if I turn down this unpaid opportunity? If I don’t have time for this volunteer work? Will people be mad at me?”

We channeled a lot of this people-pleasing into Finding Harmony. As we recovered from overworking ourselves, our characters Elijah and Liv learned that they didn’t need to do everything. As we fell back in love with writing for the sake of the art, not for the A+, our characters discovered how to remain true to their music.

We hope you enjoy reading Finding Harmony as much as we enjoyed writing it—and we encourage you to follow God’s call on your life, regardless of expectations.

My Review

Finding Harmony is book two from the Roseville Romances series. It is, also, my first introduction to both co authors, Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger. I thought it was a great story of love and faith. I adored the two main characters, Liv and Elijah. I liked the chemistry between the two. Even though the story is slightly predictable, it was still so good to enjoy an easy and light romance.

I am giving Finding Harmony four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading sweet and clean romance. I am hoping the Roat – Bolinger will be adding another installment to their Roseville Romances series. In mean time, I will be reading the first book, Picture Imperfect.

I received a digital copy of Finding Harmony from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
