WHEN POWER CORRUPTS,

While she forges an unlikely alliance with a corrupt environmental activist to embezzle funds earmarked for education Dylan becomes the victim of a series of mysterious attacks against him and his business interests.

After being shot at and brutally assaulted, Dylan decides to disappear with a former flame who has unexpectedly reentered his life, while his lawyers and the police investigate. The couple rekindle their relationship as they explore various corners of the country from California to the American heartland. As the investigations unfold, it appears the culprit may never be discovered until a series of events within the alliance result in a shocking turn of events.

Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right is a highly entertaining tale of corruption, mystery and reprisal.

WHY I WRITE CONTEMPORARY FICTION

By Dan Romanello

When I began my literary journey five years ago, I had years of experience in vastly different worlds behind me: the newspaper industry, criminal justice and civil trial systems, and college athletics. I knew I wanted to write a book, but there were myriad decisions to make. First, fiction versus nonfiction. As a reader, I consume a good deal of both, but that choice was fairly easy. Nonfiction was too serious, and I wanted to have fun writing. I decided to delve into something that would entertain readers and provide an escape, something I always look for when reading fiction.

Next, what do I write about? What genre? Prose or first-person narrative? I ultimately decided to write character-driven stories because I enjoy series where I develop an affinity for the main characters. I came up with three.

Our eponymous protagonist, Dylan Tomassi, a true American success story. Raised by a single mother, he grew up poor in the wealthy enclave of Fairfield County Connecticut and became rich beyond his wildest dreams. Now middle aged, he lives an idyllic lifestyle on Florida’s gulf coast and views life from an apolitical perspective of common sense and reasonableness. He navigates the challenges he faces with a refreshing innocence within the framework of an uncompromising moral and ethical code.

Dylan owes his success, in large part, to the wisdom and generosity of another main character, Esther Lott, a reclusive widow he met on his paper route as a young boy and to whom he remains close to the present day and who continues to dispense advice and counsel.

Finally, a good deal of the messes Dylan finds himself in come courtesy of his best friend since childhood, mischievous playboy Alex Malloy, the scion of an old money New York family.

Despite the challenges we face as a nation, I believe we live in the greatest country in the world, and thus, my writings focus on modern day life in the United States. While my primary purpose in writing the series is to entertain, I blend fictional narratives with elements inspired by real-world institutions and weave mystery, action-adventure, and thought-provoking insights into the plots. I painstakingly avoid political pontification and offer various perspectives on the institutions and issues raised through character development. The books thus far have explored the newspaper industry, the criminal justice system, college athletics, domestic travel, and education, to name a few.

The greatest compliment I can receive from readers is that they enjoyed the book and learned about something new. A few excerpts from customer reviews:

“What makes PAPERBOY stand out is how it blends contemporary social issues with fast-paced storytelling. Dylan’s reflections feel timely without being preachy. His world is vibrant, complicated and filled with intriguing characters. I found myself laughing, nodding and even pausing to think at times. It’s rare to find a book that does all three.”

“I started reading and before I knew it, I was halfway through. The storytelling is smooth, and I liked the little lessons tucked into the dialogue.

“This book delivers insight with entertainment. There are lessons here but they’re wrapped in action and humor.”
