Review Tour and Giveaway: The Duke's Forbidden Love by Debra Elizabeth

The Duke's Forbidden Love
by  Debra Elizabeth

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:   Historical Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Miss Amelia Beckwith should be over the moon with happiness when the Earl of Lincoln proposes. Unfortunately, the handsome earl is not who he appears to be in public.  She is desperate to escape Lincoln’s cruelty and has only one option left to leave the nightmare behind—RUN.

Racing back to his estate during a horrific thunderstorm, James Harlow, the Duke of Warwick, spots a young woman walking along the road when a bolt of lightning startles her. She tumbles down the ravine and lays like a broken doll at the bottom. Warwick rescues her and with the help of his staff nurses her back to health. There’s only one problem—the woman who has captivated his heart has lost her memory and cannot tell him who she is or where she comes from. Can he find out the identity of this delicate beauty before fate steps in and ruins everything he loves?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
London, 1816
Miss Amelia Beckwith pasted a smile on her face as she was ushered into the Stevensons’ ballroom alongside her parents. It was a crush, and she could scarcely breathe with all the people in the room. She looked out over the sea of colorful silks and wondered if she could hide in the corner for the duration of the night. Much to her dismay, there were no tall potted plants in any of the corners. She would be exposed all evening unless she spent the night in the ladies’ retiring room. Even then, she would not feel safe because her mother would find her and drag her back to the ballroom.
Pretending to feel ill had not gotten her out of attending the ball. Her mother had dismissed her claims of illness and ordered her maid to help Amelia dress. Not even the new pale lavender silk ballgown cheered her up. The dress was exquisite, and Amelia would have been overjoyed to wear it anywhere… except to the Stevensons’ ball. She had a bad feeling about tonight but dared not voice her concerns to her mother. With a sigh, she had done what her mother commanded, and here she stood with her stomach churning. As she moved farther into the ballroom, she wished she had been more forceful in her refusal to attend this evening.
Her father, John Beckwith, the Baron of Dudley, kissed her forehead almost immediately upon entering the ballroom. “Enjoy yourself, Amelia. I shall see you later,” he said before slipping off to the card room leaving her with her mother as chaperone for the evening.
Her mother, Grace, whispered in her ear, “Amelia, make sure you smile when you dance with the Earl of Lincoln tonight. Your father is quite pleased that Lincoln’s showing you preference this Season.”
Amelia nodded. It was the third time her mother had instructed her regarding her behavior with the handsome earl. “Yes, Mama. I understand.” She opened her mouth to share her misgivings about Lincoln, but her mother interrupted her, effectively silencing her.
“Your father would never say this to you, so it’s left to me to inform you that this will be your final Season. You must secure a good match this year. Three Seasons is quite enough to find a suitable husband, even the love match you so covet. If you don’t choose someone before the end of the Season, your father will choose someone for you. We’re most pleased that Lincoln seems to be enamored with you. Do you understand?”
My Review
The Duke's Forbidden Love is the fourth installment from the Age of Innocence series by Debra Elizabeth. I have not read the other books in the series and felt like this one could be read as a stand alone. I thought it was pretty good. I liked the characters, the setting and the sweet romance.
I am giving The Duke's Forbidden Love four stars. I would recommend it for readers who enjoy historical romance. I am looking forward to reading the other book from the Age of Innocence series in the near future.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100%  my own honest opinion.
Review Tour and Giveaway: The Unexpected Wedding by Debra Elizabeth
The Unexpected Wedding
by Debra Elizabeth
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:   Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Lady Elizabeth Tyndale has endured a string of bad dates. She’s not sure if sharing her opinions and business sense scared potential boyfriends away, but what’s the point of having an opinion if she never expresses it? When her brother and sister-in-law invite her to join them on a trip to San Diego, she reluctantly agrees. Besides, what does she have to lose? She’s certainly not burning up the dating scene in England.
Computer Programmer Jackson ‘Jack’ Stanfield doesn’t date much. He’d rather bury himself in code because computers are simple, but people are complicated. When his college buddy invites him to a BBQ, Jack reluctantly agrees to attend. He’s not prepared for his intense reaction when he meets Elizabeth Tyndale. Can the British beauty draw Jack out of his shell and open his heart to love?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT

Jack walked toward the back door. When he was almost there, he saw a vision—a stunning young woman with blonde curls cascading down her back. When she turned at his approach, the last rays of the sun enveloped her silhouette, giving her an ethereal dreamy quality. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, and he felt the breath leave his body as he stood staring open-mouthed. He’d never had such a reaction to a woman before. It was new and an unnerving experience.

“Did you want something?” she asked.

Jack continued to stare, totally captivated by this woman and her beautiful cornflower blue eyes. He knew she was talking, but he didn’t hear a word, just a lyrical melody.

The young woman waved her hand in front of his face. “Hello, can I get you something?”

That broke his trance and Jack felt heat climb up his neck. “Huh? Oh god. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to stare,” he stammered.

“It’s quite all right. Now do you want something, a beer perhaps?” she asked.

“You’re British?”

The young woman’s eyes traveled down to her feet and back up again before she looked at him. “Last time I looked, yes,” she chuckled.

What an asinine thing to say!

 “Shall we start again?” she asked. “I’m Elizabeth and you are?”

Jack gave himself a mental shake. “Oh, please forgive me. I’m not used to making a complete fool of myself before I’ve even uttered a single word. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Elizabeth. I’m Jackson, um Jack, that is.”

“Well, Jackson um Jack, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Now, would you like a beer?”

He chuckled. “Yes, please. That would be good.”

My Review

The Unexpected Wedding is the second installment from Debra Elizabeth’s series, Loving a Billionaire. Even though it is part of a series, I believe this one could be read as a stand alone. I loved this cute and delightful story. It is a sweet romance between Elizabeth and Jack. They had great chemistry and they were so fun together.

I am giving The Unexpected Wedding four and a half stars. I recommend this quick read for readers who enjoy a cute romance.
