About the Author

Karen Randau a best-seller author of fast-paced mystery, thriller, and suspense books from her home in the picturesque mountains of Arizona. She enjoys cooking, hiking, and hanging out with her family. More from Karen

Into the Fog is set in a farming community outside Tahlequah, Oklahoma, home of the Cherokee Nation, the largest of the 39 Native American tribes in Oklahoma.

If you’ve ever watched old Western movies, you may have heard a lot about the dangers of traveling through Indian Territory. Did you know that much of what is now Oklahoma was called the Indian Territory until Oklahoma became a state in 1907? Some of the tribes fought with the Confederacy during the Civil War, and some fought with the Union.

If those weren’t enough reasons for an identity crisis for the people of Oklahoma (who sometimes refer to themselves of Okies), the federal government lists Oklahoma in both the South and the Southwest regions of the United States. Many Okies claim their state is in Midwest region of the United States, but it is not listed that way in the federal census.

One thing is for sure: Oklahoma has a culture all its own, rightly earned by its confusing history. Many of these cultural oddities are explored in Into the Fog.

You’ll also enjoy the two main characters, MJ and Josh.

Marie Jessica “MJ” Goodrich served with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan until a bomb gave her a life-altering injury and a case of PTSD. She believes her injuries were so bad that no man will ever want to marry her. Besides, her mother’s failing memory and the peach orchard keep her too busy to embark on a romantic relationship.

Josh Rivers always wanted to be an artist, but he’s stuck running the auto shop he inherited. He’s dreamed of MJ ever since he pulled her from a bombed marketplace in Afghanistan, and it cost him his wife and children. He doesn’t believe he deserves another chance at love, but he prays for companionship anyway—and finds MJ unconscious in a ravine moments later. Could a guy’s luck get any worse?

The question answered in Into the Fog is: Will Josh die saving MJ again, or will they get out of the whirlwind of mystery and danger swirling around them in time to find their happily ever after?

My Review

Into the Fog is another great mystery by Karen Randau. I have read and enjoyed her books in the past and was excited to have the opportunity to read this one. I was far from being disappointed. It is slightly predictable at times but still so worth reading. I adored MJ and Josh as a team. I was wrapped up in their story. It was full of intrigue, adventure, adventure, mystery, suspense and romance. I had no problem reading the whole book in one sitting. A wonderful way to escape every day stresses of life.

I am giving Into the Fog four and a half stars. Readers who enjoy reading clean romantic suspense will definitely want to read this one. I will be on the look out for more releases to come from Karen Randau.

I received a copy of Into the Fog from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

She’s shocked to discover Quint was a champion at the sport before he accepted the senior pastor role at the church. And he’s refusing to talk about his fate.

Her investigation reveals that Quint isn’t the only person with the skill to hit a woman’s carotid artery while she’s singing a high note, and Frankie is convinced someone is framing Quint. The closer she gets to proving it, the more she faces a stalker’s deadly wrath.

Can Frankie save herself and the man she loves from becoming the next victims?

Karen Randau authors fast-paced mystery, thriller, and suspense books, including the Frankie Shep Suspense Novella series, Rim Country Mysteries, and Deadly Reception (a stand-alone novella as one of seven of the Tawnee Mountain Mysteries box set written by best-selling and award-winning authors). Her Rim Country Mystery novel, Deadly Payload, was a finalist in the Book Excellent Awards and the Beverly Hills Book Awards. A native of the southwestern U.S., Karen lives with her husband in Arizona.

More from Karen

Since Choir Loft Murder is the third book in the Frankie Shep Suspense Novellas series, I wanted to show how Frankie has grown through the series—from broken woman who is angry at God for allowing the deaths of family into a strong and happy woman who relies on God to help her through an unusually tough life.

She has shown her grit in all three novels in the series, and this one shows how she has grown through the adversity life has thrown at her.

In writing Choir Loft Murder, I wanted to show that ordinary people usually are stronger and more resilient than they know.

My Review

Choir Loft Murder is the third installment from Karen Randau’s series Frankie Shep Suspense. Even though it is part of a series, I think readers can read it as a stand alone. I thought it was pretty good. I was hooked right from the start. I did not want to put it down until I was finished.  It is not one that is easy to predict and I was left guessing throughout. I adored Frankie and Quint. Great story.

I am giving Choir Loft Murder four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean mysteries. I look forward to reading the other books from the Frankie Shep Suspense series to see what happened previously.

I received a digital copy of Choir Loft Murder from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Blog Tour: Review and Giveaway: Deadly Choices by Karen Randau

Deadly Choices

by Karen Randau

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Mystery/Thriller
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

In book 3 of the Rim Country Mysteries, an elderly woman stumbles into the campsite as Rita, Cliff, and Rita’s long-lost mother Willow enjoy s’mores and folk music around the fire. The action heats up when Willow falls for the key suspect, Rita’s old friend and mentor. Rita discovers her mother isn’t the woman she thought she was, and Rita must overcome a spate of life-threatening obstacles before anyone else dies.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
“You’ve become an accomplished musician.” I envisioned Willow sitting in a circle with other artists who lived at the commune where she retreated after my father’s death.
We all leaped to our feet when a gunshot sounded in the distance.
“What was that?” Willow looked like a spooked gazelle ready to sprint to higher ground.
“Someone’s target practice, I imagine.” Cliff used his calming police detective’s voice but took a step toward the trail where Lucy McMann had gone earlier.
“So late at night?” Willow sounded unconvinced.
“Yeah.” Cliff rolled his tongue against the inside of his cheek. “Seems strange.”
I hoped my smile wasn’t too taut to hide my concern from Willow. I stood beside her and watched the beam from Cliff’s flashlight as he walked several yards down the trail. When he returned, he tried a nonchalant tone to ask for another s’more. Despite emoting confidence, he sang with less gusto, often squinted into the surrounding darkness, and monitored the path leading into the forest.
An hour later, I heard a feeble cry for help and stood to face the trailhead.
A white-haired woman in a red gingham shirt stumbled from the forest. She collapsed next to our tent and rolled to her back. I gasped at the arrow protruding from her chest. Light from the fire flickered on the arrow’s bloody shaft.
Cliff rushed to her. “It’s the woman we met earlier. Lucy McMann.”
MY REVIEW
Deadly Choices is the third installment from the Rim Country Mysteries series. It is, also, my first intro to Karen Randau's writing. Even though it is part of a series, I did not feel lost or feel like I was missing anything. I still would like to go back and catch up on what had happened previously. This book is packed full of action, danger, adventure, mystery, and suspense. There were so many twists and turns, I felt like my head was spinning. I loved every single page and had to keep turning them to see what would happen next.
Great read!
5 stars.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
