Excerpt

Breathe in, breathe out.

Caitlyn slowed her breathing and willed calm to her tingling limbs and her pounding heart. After disembarking the ship, she and Greg boarded a bus to the airfield. Her fear of heights didn’t extend to flying in commercial aircraft. During the thirty-minute drive, she watched a safety video and signed waivers about accidental death. She reconsidered her opinion.

Standing in a group of eager tourists, she studied the scene. Ice-capped green mountains surrounded the large flat landing pad. Across the pavement, the helicopters gleamed in the bright sunshine. The choppers looked well cared for and innocuous, but she didn’t know the quality of the parts or experience level of the pilots.

Greg bumped her with his shoulder.

She caught her lip with her teeth. If she showed her fear, then he wouldn’t force her to board the deathtrap. They were barely acquaintances, but she knew him. From under her lashes, she studied his chiseled features and noted the concern in the line forming between his brows. How could she share such bone-deep understanding with a stranger? “I’m fine. Just a little anxious to get underway.”

“I’m sure.” He nodded. “You’ve waited a long time for this excursion.”

Longer than you know. She pulled back her shoulders and lifted her chin. “I’m excited.”

“Come on.” He lowered a hand to her shoulder. “They’re waving us over.”

He dropped his hand and brushed her fingers. If she grabbed his hand, would he pull free? Or would he squeeze her hand in reassurance? She crossed her arms and trailed him to their designated helicopter.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Holidays Inc by Rachelle Paige Campbell

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

Launch - Note from the Author

Holidays, Inc. is the book of my heart. I grew up on old movies and have always loved when the ultimate solution to the problem is to put on a show. For years, I’ve been drafting various ideas about a showbusiness romance but found inspiration after watching a news story about a group of young business people determined to save their town. . .

Kimber Li - Excerpt

He stood taller and puffed out his chest. “Do you need me to move something?”

She scanned the muscles straining under the basic T-shirt. He probably purchased a multi-pack on a grocery run, yet the cotton hugged like a custom fit highlighting a trim figure. As she met his gaze, she spotted the fine lines around his eyes. He was definitely a few years older than her, but not by much.

Her chin trembled. “No, no, heavy lifting.” She smoothed a stray tendril behind her ear, brushing her fingers against her warm cheeks.

The Review Crew - Review

"Holidays Inc. takes you through the year, planning big festive events for each holiday making this the perfect read for any time of the year. . . . As the two deal with their own struggles and their potential love match, we are introduced to a town with that Stars Hollow small town feel with supporting characters you can’t help but fall in love with. The town is so full of support and hope, the kind of community we all want to have surround us. I truly enjoyed getting to know each character and wanted them to succeed in their adventures."

BookHounds - Excerpt

He swallowed the sigh building in his throat. The town changed, but not his twin. For most of their lives, his sister slumped and slouched in her never-ending quest to avoid attention. As fraternal twins, they shared a remarkable number of physical similarities, including height, dark brown hair, and gray-blue eyes. In the light, her eyes looked blue and his gray. By choice, Jill faded into the background. He’d utilized those exact attributes to stand out in a crowd.

Her smile lit her whole face brighter than the old marquee outside the theater. He slid across the smooth bench seat and interlaced his fingers on the Formica tabletop. With a deep breath, he counted to ten but couldn’t calm the throbbing in his temples.

“I’m so glad you’re here.” She dropped her menu.

"This story is portrayed in a small town named New Hope. I love that first because I love small town living. Secondly, I believe we are all looking for new hope. . . . I highly recommend this book to all those who enjoy a good romance. This story is a great read."

“I can’t.” Her voice cracked. Exhaling a heavy sigh, she stopped tapping and slumped her torso. Without the rush of adrenaline, she could barely hold up her head and definitely couldn’t fight the truth. “I don’t have the luxury of running everything on my own. Until I have a full managerial staff, I’ll be extinguishing fires and lighting other ones.”

“What happens when you do?” He lowered his brow and fixed his stare. “Don’t you want to score and direct your shows?”

Heidi Reads... - Excerpt

“Come on.” He scoffed. “If she ended up here, can she really have a celebrity network? No offense.”

“Some offense taken.” She sighed. “I can list any number of reasons why someone might choose a town like New Hope.”

“Like she’s on the run from the law? Or she’s conning the town and planning to bolt?” His instincts about people swerved way off base with his last partner. If he’d been cheated by a friend of ten years, how could he believe Dani—a stranger—and her too-good-to-be-true job offer? She doesn’t judge me. He drank the rest of the coffee, quenching his dry mouth. Being a good listener didn’t absolve Dani of nefarious motives.

Wishful Endings - Review

"HOLIDAYS, INC. is a story of second chances, not only for the two main characters, but also for this small-town. It's also about family, unexpected love, how dreams can change, and figuring out that fame isn't all it's professed to be. Recommended to clean romance readers who enjoy small-town settings and a touch of Christmas cheer. . . . This was a fun read with plenty of sweet moments of both friendship, family, and romance. I'm hoping for more stories set in this small town from this author!"

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I’m looking for a friend. Guess I stumbled into your finale. My humblest apologies,” a throaty, feminine voice said over the sound system.

Claps, cheers, and whistles boomed through the theater.

Frozen in place, he turned and focused on the figure strolling across the stage.

Carrying a microphone in one hand, a petite blonde sashayed in sequins.

Bookworm Lisa - Review

"I love the relationship that starts as "enemies" which turns into friends and finally attraction. The way they banter and relate to each other was a pleasure to read. Both find it hard to trust and their trust is tested when an old "friend" of Dani comes to town. It is a great reminder that new dreams can be made and priorities shifted. . . . If you are looking for a book that makes you "feel good". This is a great one to pick up."

Splashes of Joy - Review

"I love this sweet clever small town romance, and I have always loved a hate turned love relationship in characters. There is usually much tension and not so nice conversations among the characters at first as well. All things I love in a quirky Romance novel. . . . If you are in for some Christmas reads, this is a great one to choose. Check it out, purchase you a copy, grab a warm blanket and cup of coffee or hot chocolate and you are ready for a few hours of reading Holidays, Inc."

His low laughter tugged at the tight coil wrapped like a belt around her fluttering stomach. She caught her lower lip with her teeth and stumbled, her shoe catching in a crack on the pavement. Stretching her arms forward, she brushed his bicep with a hand.

Wrapping an arm around her waist, he lifted her against his body.

She focused on his dilated pupils, her chest rapidly rising with shallow breaths. “Sorry,” she murmured. “Thank you. I’m tossing these shoes.”

He lowered her to the sidewalk. “What a shame.”

Paul straightened. The performers commanded attention, and the sweetness of their interaction enraptured him. I’d like to have that someday . He slipped a finger under his crew neck collar. With only inches of separation, he heightened his awareness of her so close to his right side. He hadn’t felt anything either professionally or personally for a long time. At the theater, he couldn’t deny the rush of excitement for both. If he made a move, he risked his career. Would holding back shutter his heart?

Dani leaned toward him. “Now, they have a spark,” she murmured. “I can’t believe your family isn’t the most talented in town.”

Remembrancy - Review

"There is so much more to Holidays, Inc. by Rachelle Paige Campbell than the book blurb. This story is about a struggling small town, friendships, and finding a place your heart can call home. . . . From the get-go, the exchanges between Dani and Paul start out rough but as they warm up to each other, their conversations shift to more. Add in a secondary budding romance (which I sincerely hope we get a resolution to in a future book) and a Hallmark-esque ending, and Holidays, Inc. is a charming read with the happy finale romance readers crave."

“What do you have?”

“You agreed to help with town research.” He grinned and raised a large to-go bag. “The least I could do was provide sustenance.”

If we eat together, our acceptable work meeting becomes a date. The crazy logic flared in her chest. She pressed hands to her sides, breathing through the scalding pain in her ribs. Somehow kissing him onstage was acceptable behavior? “I have heartburn. I better not eat anymore.”

Hallie Reads - Excerpt

“We’ll get more tonight,” Jill said.

Dani froze. Slowly, she shut her mouth and raised her scarf over her nose and cheeks. With the toe of her boot, she traced lazy circles on the sidewalk in front of the grocery store.

Jill crossed the pavement. “Snow, I mean.”

Frowning, Dani pieced together Jill’s greeting. “You think so? My phone didn’t say anything.”

“You trust a phone designed in California over a born-and-bred Wisconsin girl about snow?” Jill shook her head and chuckled.

“The kitchen is located in the building next door. It used to be a p—”

“The pizzeria?” Nora widened her gaze.

“Long gone before I arrived.” Dani shrugged and continued to the employee entrance to the auditorium. With a hand on the knob, she swung open the door. “And this is the theater.”

Nora stepped through and gasped. “Wow.” She turned in a slow circle. “I never imagined Howell Cinemas could be transformed into something so grand. What you’ve done here is miraculous.”

“Dani, he’s perfect. I’m taking him home.” Kara stood in front of the cluttered desk, fingers splaying on her tiny waist and one shoulder tilting forward.

“Shhh.” Dani shut the door and turned the lock. With years of lessons, Kara trained her voice to carry from stage to the rafters. Dani pressed her ear “and cheek against the solid door, straining for any sound. Silence greeted her. Sagging her shoulders, she turned and faced her visitor.

Under the dull fluorescent lighting, she shimmered. Always a star. Dani frowned. Did she categorize Kara as a friend, a one-time confidante, or an enemy? Until last autumn, Dani considered Kara a sister. Dani barely repressed her instinct to embrace Kara. With more time, Dani hoped for a reconciliation. Today was too soon.

Dani poked her head through the slim opening and lifted her gaze.

Her blue eyes sparkled. He ran a hand through his hair. Waiting to enter the office filled him with dread from a childhood of being called to task in the very spot. He couldn’t use the same excuse for stalling today.

“Hi, Paul, what’s up?”

“I wanted to chat with you.” He cleared his throat. “About the other night.”

I'm Into Books - Excerpt

“I’ve been talking to my agent about the guy at your place. Everyone loves the idea of a show about—wait for it—are you ready?” She squealed. “When you hear the angle, you’ll scream. It’s genius. Hollywood comes to save small-town America. The storyline is perfect, and the script writes itself. Who doesn’t adore an underdog?”

Are you stealing my life? Gritting her teeth, Dani counted to ten and breathed through her nose. She definitely wanted to scream. Over the past three weeks, she hadn’t heard a peep from Kara and assumed the plans stalled. Dani hoped her oldest friend found another idea for her latest comeback pitch. Dani pinched the bridge of her nose. The idea of the two united as a pair twisted her heart more than Kara running off with her ex-boyfriend. “I… I… I really don’t know what to say.”

Grand Finale and Giveaway: Love Overboard by Rachelle Paige Campbell

Launch - Author Interview

What was your motivation behind writing LOVE OVERBOARD?

I was watching one of my favorite movies, While You Were Sleeping, and I was struck by how one simple lie ended up so complicated. Even with the best of intentions, telling a lie or withholding the truth can really convolute an otherwise straight forward situation. The idea for my heroine, Caitlyn Moore, faking amnesia started as a “what if” scenario. She is well and truly over her ex, but he appears on her dream vacation—the first big goal she’s achieved—and throws her for a loop.

Hallie Reads - Excerpt

. . . If she wanted peace in their roommate situation, she resolved to bear his annoyance. The least she could do was appeal to the kind man she knew and strike up a civil conversation. “Did you say you were married?”

He choked on a gulp of water. Pressing a fist to his mouth, he coughed twice, took another sip, and nodded. “Yes, I’m married.”

“You said we broke up recently?” She rested her chin in a palm and cocked her head to the side. If he learned the truth, her questions wouldn’t earn her any reprieve. Her curiosity was too piqued, however, to resist.

Wishful Endings - Excerpt

A jazzy melody snaked from the secluded room to the hallway.

He paused with a hand on the doorknob. While the room wasn’t marked off-limits with any sort of signage, he had never encountered another crewmember or guest here without specific arrangements. He hadn’t bothered to lock the doors. Had someone come to find him? Every performer on deck demurred against the showcase role in the piano bar. Someone downplayed his or her skill. He stretched his neck from one shoulder to the other and eased the knot of tension.

Entering the room, he shut the door as silently as possible. From his position, he couldn’t spot the player hidden behind the baby grand piano. Whoever discovered the room had come across a beautiful instrument not meant for amateurs. The mystery pianist was the solution. He couldn’t afford to spook the person.

Mythical Books - Review

"It is a sweet, clean romance in which love and lust are subtly discovered, combined and served in perfect doses making me really enjoy the company of the characters. . . . Mrs. Campbell's Alaskan cruise is a great choice despite or because of the threats of the icebergs of the sea or our souls. Enjoy!"

"What a wonderful romance! The story gives us hope with the many situations we encounter in life. Overcoming obstacles and coming out a better person in the end is a fun journey to follow. . . . I highly recommend this uplifting romance story to everyone."

What did she think? Caitlyn held her breath. Every nerve ending in her body readied for command of either fight or flight. She inhaled through her nose and caught a whiff of recently cleaned carpet and woodsy cologne. From her peripheral vision, she surveyed the gleaming baby grand piano.

After discovering the elevator in the faux smokestack on the top deck, she boarded and rode up one floor. The elevator opened to another elegantly appointed Art Deco vestibule and an open doorway. Not spotting any off-limits signs, she entered the room and spotted the piano. Resistance to the beautiful instrument was futile. At her sides, she twitched her fingers against her thighs, remembering the delicate touch of the keys and the momentary balm for her nerves. His invitation was her nightmare.

"I enjoyed reading Love Overboard. . . . Seeing Alaska is something I always wanted to do, so reading about it is very enjoyable. Caitlyn never imagined she might fall in love on the cruise. . . . The book was fun to read."

Kimber Li - Excerpt

She nodded but her chest tightened. If her most remarked-upon personality trait was her inability to take a relatively minor risk, what did the quirk say about her character? She considered her caution a positive indication of her steadfastness, but perhaps no one else agreed. Maybe, instead, others viewed her as a woman incapable of change. She wanted to be capable of rising to a challenge and supporting her friends. How many friends did she have left? She hadn’t socialized with her colleagues in years and only met up with Steph. In an effort to minimize risk, she stopped seeking new people. Greg bumped into her. Their accidental circumstance forced an introduction. When she got home, she vowed to broaden her world.

Splashes of Joy - Review

"Love Overboard is a really nice short and sweet romance read. Caitlyn found herself in a shockingly embarrassing Alaskan cruise, one that was suppose to be with her sister, but turned out very differently. In the beginning, I grew to like these characters, and the plot kept me wanting to keep reading to know the ending."

Bookworm Lisa - Review

"This is a wonderful escape book to read. I loved "going" on an Alaskan Cruise with them. I hope to be able to see some of the places described in the book. I could picture them in my mind. I love it when a book helps me envision the characters and setting."

Uplifting Reads - Review

"Rachelle Paige Campbell gives readers a peek into cruise life as well as a handful of the wonders of Alaska. Love Overboard is also a story of stepping out of your comfort zone and realizing that some risks are worth taking. . . . it was a fast read. It was definitely a different kind of plot than I've seen in a while, which I appreciated!"

I'm Into Books - Excerpt

. . . The helicopter flew over a section of the glacier with deep rivulets cracking the surface. Craggy blue ice appeared like a rare gem, the breadth of the expanse and depth of color almost unimaginable. Missing the scene of majesty before her would have been a lifelong regret. What would have happened if her family had taken the trip together?

If Dad was here, I wouldn’t have boarded the helicopter.

She dropped her shoulders. No one expected her as the shy unassuming daughter to escape her comfort zone. Greg didn’t know her well enough to trap her in the same circumstance. She discovered a new opportunity from his encouragement and didn’t want to slink back to her old ways. Would she—alone—find the same courage at home?”

"This book was an absolute delight to read! I savored the story in its entirety, and I was thoroughly charmed and entertained by both main characters. The author told a simple but relatable story. . . . I felt just like I do when I watch a good Hallmark movie. Warm, fuzzy, and filled with hope for the days ahead. Thank you to this author who took the time to tell a story full of love, hope, and joy!"

Several times over the next four hours, Greg held his breath. As a man who prided himself on his quick turn of phrase, he’d been struck speechless. What compliment could he offer to compete with the wonder of their adventure?

They boarded the helicopter, donned headsets, and were airborne. The chopper soared over the glacier. Greg tilted his chin and peered out the window at the crevasses and streams rippled the surface like the bottom of the ocean from pounding tides.

Over the headsets, a guide directed them to view the nearby wildlife. He explained the unique blue coloring resulted from wavelengths of light being scattered and the hue saturating the farther it traveled.

"I really enjoyed this short and sweet cruise ship romance. The characters were so relatable, especially Caitlyn. . . . it was one giant ocean-going adventure after the other making it a fun read. I loved the chemistry between the main characters and before long, I was cheering for love to prevail. I think you will too as you escape into this terrific heartwarming book."

Greg poured a mug of coffee and extended the cup in offering.

She waved him off. “No, thanks.”

He frowned. “You’re not waiting for coffee? You just like to stand in lines?” The corners of his mouth lifted.

“No.” She caught her bottom lip with her teeth. His near-smile was contagious. She enjoyed their conversations and teasing repartee. She’d never before engaged in playful banter with a man. If she was smart, she wouldn’t start now. “I adore coffee. But…” She dragged the word for emphasis. “I don’t drink black and that mug”—she pointed toward the filled-to-the-brim ceramic in his hands—“has no room for my mix-ins.”

Remembrancy - Review

"Rachelle Paige Campbell gives readers a peek into cruise life as well as a handful of the wonders of Alaska. Love Overboard is also a story of stepping out of your comfort zone and realizing that some risks are worth taking."

“Whoa.” His mouth fell open. “You’d miss a once-in-a-lifetime experience?”

She lowered her gaze from his incredulous eyebrows to the empty mug she cradled. Only a drop of coffee remained, she needed more liquid fortification. Yes, she would relinquish an adventure as a solo traveler. Growing up after tragedy, she operated on constant high alert against any conversation veering toward emotions she’d rather not endure, like pity. With Greg, she couldn’t avoid tough talk. Strangely enough, she didn’t mind as much as usual. “I paid for two spots. I’m not as comfortable being on my own as you might think given my current circumstance.”

"I was cringing, laughing, and deeply sympathizing with this poor girl, as she awkwardly stumbled her way through a ton of personal growth, while trying to make the best of her life-long dream of seeing Alaska. . . . All in all, this was a fun, easy read that entertained. Campbell does a good job of portraying accurate feelings and character development that played on my emotions and allowed me a contented escape."

She caught his gaze and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

He flashed a thumbs-up and grinned.

Smiling, she looked away and started the next tune.

Without her, he would have floundered on his last itinerary. She faced her fears and saved his reputation on the cruise. Seated at the piano, she played like a natural performer, leaving no hint to her underlying nerves. Unless she disclosed her anxiety, he—and the audience—had no clue about her stage fright. If she could challenge herself, then he should too. He swallowed hard. Fighting against familial expectations was easier said than done.

"It was fun to feel like I was on a cruise while reading. . . . Love Overboard is such a cute romance. If you love oceans, traveling, and Clean Contemporary Romance then this book is for you!"

What did she think? Caitlyn held her breath. Every nerve ending in her body readied for command of either fight or flight. She inhaled through her nose and caught a whiff of recently cleaned carpet and woodsy cologne. From her peripheral vision, she surveyed the gleaming baby grand piano.

At her sides, she twitched her fingers against her thighs, remembering the delicate touch of the keys and the momentary balm for her nerves. His invitation was her nightmare.
Clasping his hands behind his back, Greg leaned closer.
She couldn’t reply through her thick throat. He wanted her opinion? Crazy sprung to Caitlyn’s mind and quick on the heels came terror. The idea of a private room tempted her. If she was a member of crew, could she add Steph to the manifest? Could her sister fly to one of the upcoming ports and join her for at least a few days of the trip? She pressed her tongue against the roof of her mouth and stilled her agreement.
An itch tickled her palms, and she rubbed the clammy hands against her pants. The mere idea of performing for a crowd caused physical stress. If she sat behind a piano as the headliner, she’d black out from fright. She hadn’t played for anyone besides family since her fingers slipped off the keys in front of an audience of one hundred and fifty at the Poduch Concert Hall in Milwaukee.
