My Review:
Crossing Day is yet another great novel by the talented author, William A Glass.  I have read his previous books and jumped at the chance to read this new release. I was not disappointed and found it to be my favorite he has written so far. I admire the author's use of his imagination to bring out such a thought provoking tale. I thought the plot was uniquely written that I found to be refreshing to read. It explores many aspects of the lasting affects of history in the United States and deals a lot of "what ifs" or "what could have happened". I love the theme of fighting for injustice and freedom among the group of friends. I did not find it was a long read and it was easy to continue to turn the pages and not put down until I was completely finished. A perfect way to take a break from the stresses of life for a bit.
Crossing Day will be getting five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for teen readers or older who enjoy reading a mix of clean Historical Fiction and Thrillers. As always, I look forward to reading more releases from William A Glass to see where else he will take his characters and fans in the future.
I received a paperback copy of William A Glass' Crossing Day from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

My Favorite Places to Write

By William A. Glass, author of OFF BROADWAY: A Marriage Drama

It’s fitting that I should have several favorite places to write, not just one.  That’s because, like the main character in Off Broadway, I’m hyperactive.  Still, my favorite spot is the porch of my house in South Carolina.  After that comes the front passenger seat of a van full of soccer players.  Finally, when soccer season is done, and the gnats or the weather make the porch inhospitable, I’ll go inside, sit in my library, and tap on my laptop.

My wife, Bettina, and I have moved around a bit, but it now looks like South Carolina will be our final roosting place.  We bought a fixer-upper in a town that’s beyond repair several years ago when I took a job coaching soccer at the nearby college.  After living in Washington D.C. and later in Atlanta, the clear air, birds, and quiet are wonderful!  Unlike northern states, South Carolina has five seasons: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Hell.  I can write happily on the porch most days in all but the last-mentioned season.

During the soccer season, I am the back-up driver of a fifteen-passenger van.  So, when not called upon to take a spell behind the wheel, I can plug my laptop into a charger and work while traveling to games.  I love rolling down the road, with a snootful of gas station coffee lighting up my synapses, and Nine Inch Nails blasting on the stereo.  Some of my best writing has been accomplished this way.

When all else fails, there’s always the library and my rocking chair.  It’s comforting to work surrounded by furniture I salvaged long ago from my grandfather’s house.  He was a learned Scottish gentleman and left me a nice collection of books.  Sometimes his ghost peers over my shoulder as I write.

OFF-BROADWAY: A MARRIAGE DRAMA Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama is another good read by the talented William A. Glass. I had the pleasure of reading his debut, As Good As Can Be, and was excited to have the opportunity to read this one. I was not disappointed. I thought it was an entertaining book to read. Just as insinuated in the title, it is full of drama. It was interesting to meet married couple, Cindy and Dave Knight. After years of being married, they are living in Manhattan and are beginning to have struggles within their relationship. I wanted to keep reading to see what would become of them and wonder if they would make their marriage get through the hard times. Marriage takes a lot of work and was hoping they would make it through. There are other characters that come into play that, also, contributes to the drama within the pages. The writing style and plot are different from other books I have read in the past, but unique and refreshing. There were a few scenes that were a little slower than others but quickly picked up that made me engaged.

Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama will be getting four and a half stars from me. I believe readers who enjoy reading drama filled books will want to pick this one up. I thought it was worth a read. I will be looking forward to William A. Glass’ third book to see where else his imagination will take his readers to next.

I received a paperback copy of Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

VBT and Giveaway: As Good As Can Be by William A Glass

As Good As Can Be

by William A. Glass

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:   Coming of Age/Historical Fiction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Dave Knight is a wayward child growing up in a military family during the 1950s. His older sister wants to kill him but settles for regularly beating him up. Other siblings join in the mayhem while their alcoholic father contributes to the chaos with his unique approach to parenting.
As the Knight family moves from one army base to the next, Dave develops a give-a-damn attitude that often leads to trouble. In high school, he joins other delinquents in a series of escapades, some dangerous, others funny, and a few that would be worthy of jail time should they ever be caught.

After barely graduating, Dave is drafted into the army and sent to guard a nuclear weapons depot in Korea. There, he gets into trouble with his sergeant and tries to avoid dishonorable discharge.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
Two rocking chairs are arranged in front of the fireplace. On the mantle is a signed photograph of General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Mr. Lawson takes the picture down and shows it to Dave. “My pappy rode with Forrest,” the old man says. “He killed a lot of Yankees, you know, in the war.” Mr. Lawson looks at Dave expectantly but is disappointed by the uncomprehending expression on the child’s face. Carefully he places his prized possession back over the fireplace.
Dave and Melissa return to Gram’s house in time for lunch. After eating, the Knight children have another quiet time. Then Ethel comes up with an idea. “Let’s take a ride out to the river,” she suggests.
“What for?” Knight asks.
“I want to see if the rain the other day caused it to rise.”
“Who cares?”
“Come on, it’s something to do,” Bobbie says impatiently.
The family piles into the Plymouth and rides a short distance to where the Trinity River flows. Knight parks on the shoulder of the highway, and they all go onto the bridge to peer at the muddy water. It’s an evil-looking stream, full of snags and home to alligators, cottonmouths, gars, and snapping turtles. No one in their right mind would go swimming in the Trinity, so all the natives can do is look, check the water level, or maybe drop a line in to see what manner of creature takes the bait. “Can we go now?” Marie asks.
“Hush. Gram wants to look,” Bobbie says.
“At what?” Dan asks.
My Review
As Good As Can Be was a pretty good debut by William A. Glass. I was intrigued reading about Dave’s life. I enjoyed watching him grow throughout the book and learning how he grew up in the military life during the 1960s. It was quite the journey and adventure. To me, it felt like I was reading a memoir instead of a fictionalized account. The author definitely knew how to draw in the reader.
I am giving As Good As Can Be four and a half stars. I would recommend it for readers who enjoy Military Historical Fiction.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
