When she goes to take possession of her father's house in a backwoods Georgia town, the dilapidated structure is already occupied by another woman who claims it was promised to her son, Jonah. In her attempts to untangle the mess, Lillian will discover not only a family she never knew she had but a family business that is more than meets the eye--and has put a target on her back.

To discover the truth and take hold of the independence she's always dreamed of, she'll have to make friends with adversaries and strangers--especially Jonah, the dusty and unrefined cowboy who has secret aspirations of his own.

More from Julie

Do you love a good secret? Me too. Some of my favorite books contain secrets just begging to be revealed. Add in a feel-good romance, some family drama, and a heaping dose of faith, and now we’re talking.

In Reunion in Saltwater Beach, Jax Cooper jetted away to college a dozen years earlier and rarely looked back. His best friend, Addi Barrett, stayed in the town of Saltwater, often wondering what might have been between the two of them. She also carried a secret she hoped never to revisit.

But that was before Jax returned home for his mother’s memorial. And his sister had a meltdown. And one of his brothers disappeared …

On a personal note, while writing this novel, I was unaware that my precious father would pass away just weeks before it released. Honestly, those months leading up to this story’s debut were … hard. But God!

I mention this because, during those last few weeks, my own brothers and I found ourselves talking on the phone or texting daily. Hourly at times. It was an intense time that brought us closer together as siblings—and showed our differences too.

Now I have an extra special place in my heart for the wild and wacky Cooper siblings. (Is it possible to feel a personal connection to a fictional family? Answer = yes )

Of course, I also found myself both fretting and rooting for Jax and Addi to, somehow, find their way to a second chance at love—despite the past that got in their way. And that’s no secret.

Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate you!

My Review

Reunion in Saltwater Beach is the first book I have read by Julie Carobini. I thought it was a great introduction for me. I enjoyed Addi and Jax’s story and traveling to Saltwater Beach with them. It was a wonderful adventure. Even though, it was slightly predictable, it was not a tale I would have wanted to miss. A great and quick read.

I am giving Reunion in Saltwater Beach four and a half stars. Readers who enjoy reading clean romance will want to read this one. It is one that is definitely worth a read. I am keeping my eye on more future releases by Julie Carobini to see where else her imagination will take her readers to next.

I received a paperback copy of Reunion in Saltwater Beach from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Genre Historical Mystery
Publisher She Writes Press
Release dates:   Oct 25, 2022
Content Rating: R:
There are some swear words peppered throughout (not many) and 2 explicit sex scenes (tasteful, but more than a PG-13 scene)

Book Description:

In A Spying Eye, Clive and Henrietta return to Europe in an attempt to resurrect their failed honeymoon. While in London, they are approached by their old friend, Inspector John Hartle, who convinces them to search for the missing panel of the Ghent Altarpiece, a famous Renaissance painting, of which Hitler’s top men are also in pursuit.

Meanwhile, back in Chicago, Oldrich Exley threatens to cut off financial support for the entire Von Harmon brood if Elsie continues with her plan to marry Gunther―a situation made worse by the sudden appearance of one Heinrich Meyer, who claims to be little Anna’s father and threatens to take her away. Desperate, Elsie seeks the help of Clive’s sister, Julia, who is herself the victim of domestic abuse and who has fallen under the spell of a handsome Texas millionaire bent on acquiring a rare painting from the Howard collection.

Clive and Henrietta’s search takes them to Chateau du Freudeneck in Strasbourg, France―the ancient seat of the Von Harmons and home to three eccentric distant relatives. What begins as a wild goose chase turns decidedly more deadly when several Nazi officers also arrive at the chateau in search of a “valuable item.” When Henrietta and Clive attempt to flee after Henrietta uncovers a shocking truth, they are forced to trust themselves to a suspicious French servant who seems all-too willing to help . . .

My Review:

I had the pleasure of reading the first five books from the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series by Michelle Cox and was happy to know there was another release. The sixth installment, A Spying Eye, is a great addition to it. Even though readers probably could get by reading this as a stand alone, I highly recommend to read the series in order to experience what had happened previously.
In A Spying Eye, it was great catching up with the fabulous duo, Clive and Henrietta. I have adored them in the other books and it seems I adore them even more each one I pick up a new story. This time around their tale stretches around the world. I felt like I was on the journey with them trying to figure what they would discover next. I loved the historical details that were so vivid, giving me a perfect vision of what was going on. I loved it.

I am giving A Spying Eye a very well deserved five plus stars. I know many readers and fans of mystery, suspense and historical romance will definitely love this one. I am not ready to say good bye to this series and hope there will be more to come from the Henrietta and Inspector Howard. I would love to know what else Michelle Cox has in store for Clive and Henrietta in upcoming novels.

I received a paperback advanced reader copy of A Spying Eye from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

More from Denise

Hello everyone!

I’m excited to share this set of stories with you! All the authors have worked hard to bring you some Christmas joy and magic. We’ve each picked a castle to center our stories around. I mean, Christmas and castles go well together, don’t you think? You’ll get to explore different castles in different time periods while also getting to know all the characters in each story. That’s a lot of new friends to make!

For my story, I jumped on the chance to write about a castle that inspired the castle that always brought me joy growing up (if I’m being honest, it still brings me joy). I’ve always been a huge Disney nerd, and Princess Aurora has always been my favorite Disney princess. Growing up, I was blessed to be able to visit Disneyland for most of my life, and Sleeping Beauty’s castle was my favorite thing (I was so sad when they closed the walk-through part for several years). Even without the attraction part of it, I loved walking into the park and seeing it stand at the end of Main Street. I actually teared up seeing it for the first time after Covid.

What does all this have to do with my castle story? Well, in 1869, King Ludwig II of Bavaria began construction on Neuschwanstein Castle. This castle served as the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Let me tell you, if you thought Disneyland’s castle was beautiful, it’s got nothing on Neuschwanstein. If I were to pick a castle to live in, it’d be this one.

Setting aside the Disney connection, I was even more intrigued when I learned more about the king who commissioned it. The king was not very popular towards the end of his reign, and the day after he was sent to Berg Castle, he and a doctor were found dead in Lake Starnberg. The weird part? They ruled it a drowning, but there was no water in their lungs and clear signs of foul play.

Oh, but that’s not the only interesting fact this castle houses. This castle became a hiding place for some of the art the Nazi’s stole during World War II. Part of me wonders if any pieces are still hidden there. The Monuments Men group actually cataloged art found there, and it’s been preserved. Here’s a fun article from The Met all about it!

I hope you enjoyed learning about the castle that inspired my story!

Interview
How did you do research for your book?

Research for Brotherhood By Fire was certainly a key element for the realistic portrayal of life at the fire station, the relationships between firefighters, and the work they perform.  I attended my local community’s Citizens Fire Academy where the classroom instruction was helpful and interesting, but the most relevant experience came from being on ride outs and going on calls with the firefighters and paramedics.  I was able to eat meals with them, see what life was like firsthand at the station and then ride in the engine when a call was received.   It was tremendously helpful to see and experience everything firsthand.

Do you use real life incidents in your book?

Yes – having a brother who is a retired Fire Chief and a nephew who is currently a Lieutenant with the fire service, stories they’ve shared abound in the book.  By using some of these stories, I wanted to make the book as realistic as possible so when firefighters read it and reading about actual incidents, they’ll be able to relate and take the cancer concerns detailed in the book seriously.

What other projects do you have?

With the positive reception of Brotherhood By Fire, I have decided to write another book about the fire service and am adding elements about the police service as well.  The idea for the story came from another story told by my nephew about a situation in the station where he serves.  I am currently in the process of writing this story and am very excited about it.

What is your writing schedule?

I currently work fulltime so while I don’t have as much time as I’d like to devote to writing, I do set aside Tuesday and Thursday nights for dedicated writing along with any other time I can grab.  I like to get as large a block of time as possible since once you get into the writing groove, it’s hard to step outside of that world again.

Is there anything that helps to make writing easier for you?

It may sound crazy, but the thing that makes writing easier for me is reading – a lot.  Reading great authors and well written books really helps the words come more easily when writing.  I remember what made a certain scene so vivid when reading a book, (i.e. was it a smell, was it a sound, was it the way something felt?) and I try to incorporate and adapt some of the same sensory inspirations.

What is your favorite thing about writing?

While it’s always important to write for yourself and feel confident and proud of your writing, there is also nothing quite like having someone tell you what your book meant to them or what they took away after reading your book, or the tears they cried while reading.  It’s amazed me the wide variety of things that have stood out to different people.  Sometimes, things I never thought would be significant have had the most impact.  Words are certainly incredibly powerful.

BROTHERHOOD BY FIRE Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

Brotherhood By Fire is the first book I have read by the talented author, Lindy Bell. After reading this one, it definitely will not be the last. I was hooked into Andy’s story within the first couple of chapters. I was intrigued with him, found him to be relatable and wondered what was going to happen to him in the end. I had no way of predicting the outcome at all. This is one of those books that will toy with the reader’s emotions. I warn other readers to keep their tissues close by because if they are anything like me, I guarantee they are going to those tissues handy. I did not want to put this book down. I had no problem reading the whole tale within two evenings. I got little sleep those two nights but it was well worth it. I loved every single page.

I am giving Brotherhood By Fire a very well deserved five plus stars. I believe readers who enjoy reading about the lives of firefighters and for those enjoy reading well written fiction will want to pick this one up. I would love to read more like this one by Lindy Bell in the future. I will most definitely be keeping my eye out for their future releases. This one was fabulous.

I received a paperback copy of Brotherhood By Fire from the publisher but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
