Meet the Author:

Ten year old Dave Tabler decided he was going to read the ‘R’ volume from the family’s World Book Encyclopedia set over summer vacation. He never made it from beginning to end. He did, however, become interested in Norman Rockwell, rare-earth elements, and Run for the Roses.

Tabler’s father encouraged him to try his hand at taking pictures with the family camera. With visions of Rockwell dancing in his head, Tabler press-ganged his younger brother into wearing a straw hat and sitting next to a stream barefoot with a homemade fishing pole in his hand. The resulting image was terrible.

Dave Tabler went on to earn degrees in art history and photojournalism despite being told he needed a ‘Plan B.'

Fresh out of college, Tabler contributed the photography for The Illustrated History of American Civil War Relics, which taught him how to work with museum curators, collectors, and white cotton gloves. He met a man in the Shenandoah Valley who played the musical saw, a Knoxville fellow who specialized in collecting barbed wire, and Tom Dickey, brother of the man who wrote ‘Deliverance.’

In 2006 Tabler circled back to these earlier encounters with Appalachian culture as an idea for a blog. AppalachianHistory.net today reaches 375,000 readers a year.

Dave Tabler moved to Delaware in 2010 and became smitten with its rich past. He no longer copies Norman Rockwell, but his experience working with curators and collectors came in handy when he got the urge to photograph a love letter to Delaware’s early heritage. This may be the start of something.

My Review:

I enjoyed reading Dave Tabler's second installment from his Delaware History Overview series called, Delaware from Railways to Freeways: First State, Second Phase. I was looking forward to get my hands on book three, Delaware from Freeways to E-Ways: First State; Solid State. I did not hesitate when I had the opportunity to receive a copy. I was not disappointed. The book is rich in history with colorful photographs all throughout. It covers a variety of historical subjects, which includes: museums, world wars, toys, factories, and technologies. I loved learning more and more about the state of Delaware. The photographs provided from the pages are explained more in depth at the end of the book. I thought it was a great and interesting read. My history buff son loved it, as well, and has placed on his own book shelf.

Delaware from Freeways to E-Ways: First State; Solid State will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for all readers who love to read non fiction particularly those based on the states of Delaware history. I believe it would make a wonderful gift for any Delaware historian. I would love to read more releases in the future from author Dave Tabler.

I received a soft cover copy of Dave Tabler's Delaware from Freeways to E-Ways: First State; Solid State from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

A mother’s love should be a given…

Growing up in1970s small-town Canada, Mara Howland strives to meet her mother’s impossible demands—yet the sting of failure always follows. More from Blossom

Have you ever felt like something, or someone is watching you? Have you ever experienced darkness in a fully lit room? Or wondered if a malevolent force was working against you?

We all love stories on angels and God’s love and protection, but we also have an enemy…a living, breathing adversary, who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Ephesians 6:12 says…For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (NKJV)

This story, Mara, The Unseen Battle… found me. My genre is historical romance. I was building a following, won some awards, and loved what I was doing. But as I finished up my last series the Holy Spirit made it very clear that Mara would be my next project. From my own experiences of childhood abuse, I added enough fiction to protect the not-so-innocent and created a story that reveals the unseen spirit world that preys on the innocent and vulnerable.

As sweet Mara suffers under an abusive mother, we discover evil forces are plotting her death. The odds are against her, yet she does not fight alone. In this first book of a three-book series Mara comes face-to-face with the evil behind her mother’s attacks and must choose whether to enter that darkness or turn toward the light. Her birth to death story unfolds in a unique, riveting, and page-turning experience that will alert you to events taking place in the unseen spirit world.

You will be entertained, (nothing wrong with that) but you will also come away with a greater appreciation for prayer, for Christ, and His work on the cross. You may even view the trials of life in a new encouraging way. The battle is real but the One by our side is victorious.

My Review

Mara The Unseen Battle stars off The Victory series from Blossom Turner. It is an interesting read with Mara living during the 1970s Canada. It is a mixture of intrigue, faith, mystery, spiritual, and suspense. It is one of those books where I felt a connection with a character that made me want to cry for what they are going through. Just when I was getting hooked and wanted to keep reading on, there was a cliffhanger. I have got to know more of Mara's story.

I am giving Mara The Unseen Battle five stars. Fans of clean mystery and suspense will not want to pass up on picking it up for themselves. I am curious to see what Blossom Turner has in store The Victory series and what happens next with Mara in the second installment.

I received a digital copy of Blossom Turner's Mara The Unseen Battle from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

My Review

Securing Charity is a great start to A Place to Belong series. I thought it was a wonderful introduction to Julia David's writing. I loved going back in time and meeting Charity and Ari. That two had to endure so much trauma and struggles that they must learn to rely on one another. I wanted to keep reading to see what would become of the two. A beautiful story of faith and love.

I am giving Securing Charity a very well deserved five plus stars. I have no doubt lovers of clean historical romance will love it as much as me. I am looking forward to reading the next installment from A Place to Belong series, Freeing Nohl.

BLURB:

Sometimes losing your children is the only way to save them. The year is 2039. Chased by government goons determined to quarantine her and a virus that might kill her at any time, Jean Bennett races a thousand miles to Canada to get her five children to safety. On a journey unlike any they’ve ever taken, Jean learns who she is and what she must do to save her children.

EXCERPT:

THE infection hit with such ferocity and speed that all public trans¬port had shut down by the end of my husband’s meeting in DC, sixty-five miles from home. No car, no commuter train, no way out.

In the five hours since he’d arrived in the city that morning, police had blockaded roads and barred highway entrances. Airlines delayed flights and then canceled them. Residents, under threat of arrest, huddled in their homes, and universities restricted students to dorms. Government officials shuttered public buildings, closing, and locking the gates.

Television news showed black-helmeted National Guardsmen herd¬ing panicked tourists back toward their hotels as they stampeded down unfamiliar streets. Coast Guard cutters patrolled the Potomac River; helicopters buzzed overhead. From Capitol Hill to the Ellipse, red lights on Constitution Avenue blinked on and off. Front pages of the morning newspaper skittered across empty streets.

I waited for Ted to call.

THE AXE by Linda Griffin Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

I did not hesitate to have the chance to listen to The Axe by Linda Griffin. It was a short tale but it was full of mystery and suspense. There were moments that made me a little confused as to where the author was going with this, but it all came together in end. I thought the characters were easy to like and I enjoyed getting to know them. The plot was fast paced that had me often guessing what could possibly happen from scene to scene. I had no difficulty listening to the whole book without having to hit the pause button. It was a great way to be entertained while having to deal with daily chores. Overall, a good thrilling ride that had me hooked from the start until the very end. I loved it.

The Axe is narrated by Eric Priessman. I enjoyed his voice while listening to this version of the book. I believe his performance was just what author needed to bring this story to life.

I found that The Axe to be a five plus star read. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading and or listening to quick mystery and suspense. I would be interested in diving into more books from the talented Linda Griffin in the future.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: The Maestro's Missing Melody by Amy Walsh

About the Book

Book: The Maestro’s Missing Melody

Author: Amy Walsh

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release date: September 13, 2024

She was thrilled to apprentice with her fiddler hero—until she got to know him. He regretted his decision to play teacher to college kids—until he got to know her.

For aspiring musician and college student McKay Moonlight, winning a summer internship with Scottish master fiddler Huntley Milne was a dream come true. When a last-minute change moved the internship program from the Scottish Highlands of her ancestors to a village she’d never heard of along the River Deben, McKay was determined to make the best of it. However, she didn’t expect to make such a terrible first impression on her summer mentor.

Hosting a bunch of college students was the last thing Maestro Huntley Milne needed. He was already up to his ears in problems, with Aunt BeeBee being placed in a care home, resulting in him having emergency custody of his tween nephew and niece. Then he met McKay Moonlight, and the chaos really began.

The Maestro’s Missing Melody is a charming story featuring endearingly eccentric characters, a treasure hunt caper through the nooks and crannies of a mansion, and genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Sunshine and thunderclouds attract in this delightful age-gap Christian romantic comedy from Amy Walsh.

The Maestro’s Missing Melody Cast of Characters

Maestro Huntley Milne regrets committing to host a group of college students, especially when Aunt BeeBee ends up in a care home, forcing him to move into the Milne Monstrosity on Sycamore Street which is about two hours northeast of London. Aunt BeeBee is nagging him to locate the missing Milne stave book, Dory and David are fretting about being put back into foster care, and even his aunt’s cats are high maintenance. Then he meets McKay Moonlight…

McKay Moonlight was thrilled when she won the musical apprenticeship at Maestro Huntley Milne’s Highlands Music Center.  After all, she had a little crush on him for years after seeing him play at the Rocky Mountain Fiddler Championships. When the apprenticeship is relocated to a tiny town near the Deben River, rather than the Highlands of her ancestors, she takes it in stride. Who would think her traveling mishaps would cause her to be late and forget something very important – ruining her chance to make a good first impression on her summer mentor.

The Milne Monstrosity was built by a wealthy plantation owner, who brought his family to England just prior to the American Civil War.  This mansion is a hodgepodge of turrets, towers, secret passages, and gables – – and does not fit in with the other homes on Sycamore Street AT ALL. Beatrice Milne has filled the mansion with many colorful and eccentric collections. Other unique features of the Milne property are a tiny guest house which is the exact replica of the Monstrosity, and a stone amphitheater decorated with musical gargoyles within view of the River Deben.

Dory and David are tween twins who went from foster home to foster home until they were finally adopted by Mama Bee. Dory enjoys riding her bike around her village, learning to play the flute, reading great books – – and finally having a family, even if her adopted mother is much older and let’s say “different” from other parents. David plays the guitar very well, but his real passion is for building gadgets. The twins were content living in the Milne Monstrosity in Eden Cove with Mama Bee encouraging them to explore their interests and grow their talents. But now, Mama Bee is in a care home and they are stuck with grumpy Uncle Huntley until Mama Bee comes home. That’s IF she ever comes home.

Beatrice Milne, aka Aunt Bee Bee or Mama Bee, always had her fingers in so many pies, and those pies were always so splendid, that she seems larger than life to the people of Eden Cove.  Now she is a patient of Balmy Bay Residences, the care home she helped refurbish as one of her projects.  What’s with her change in personality – and her obsession with Huntley needing to search for the missing Milne stave book?

Arabella and Gerard are Aunt Bee Bee’s ginormous cats who have a love/hate relationship with the Maestro.  Who knows, maybe they can help with the treasure hunt for the missing stave book…

Audiobook Tour and Giveaway: Pilgrims by M R Leonard

Book Details:

Book Title: PILGRIMS by M.R. Leonard
Category:  Adult Fiction (18 +),  412 pages
Genre: Science Fiction
Publisher:  Blue Castle Press
Release date:  November 2024
Content RatingPG-13. There is death in my book. There are also religious profanities “God damn”. There are also a few swears (not many but some “F” bombs said by the villain at the end). There is no description of sex but my protagonist follows an online creator who does adult content (her content is never described at all other than to say it exists). The main thing is the violence in my book. It is not gory but it does involve children dying.
Book Description:

Latin was a dead language—until the aliens arrived.

Out-of-work Latin teacher and borderline alcoholic Austin DeSantis is determined to spend his final days in the arms of a prostitute—that is if the aliens don’t exterminate humanity first.

But when the aliens land at the Vatican, begin speaking Latin, and reveal themselves to be Catholic, the world turns upside down.

Pressed into service as a translator and thrust into the center of humanity's first contact with a cryptic alien race, Austin must uncover their true intentions before religious turmoil rips the planet apart. But with Austin caught between the Catholic Church, the US military, and an enigmatic alien AI, he'll have to decide where his loyalties lie as the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

PILGRIMS is a sci-fi retelling of Augustine's Confessions, mixing a high-concept premise à la Children of Time with the ceaseless pacing and rich characterization of Red Rising.

PILGRIMS by M.R. Leonard Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

Pilgrims is a good debut novel for author M R Leonard. I have to admit I am not a fan of fantasy and science fiction, particularly those containing aliens. After reading the description, I was not sure if this book would be for me. However, my interest was piqued and I wanted to open the first page to find out if it would be or not. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I did enjoy it. It was full of action and adventure, often thought provoking, with the addition of some suspense. I never would have guessed that I would have liked an alien filled novel this much. The plot was fast paced and easy to keep me engaged. The characters were well developed and relatable. I thought it was a good way to spend the hours away on the cold, snowy days. It is probably one of the best novels from the science fiction genre I have read to date.

I am going to give Pilgrims four and a half stars. I have no doubt fans of aliens, science fiction, and fantasy fiction will really enjoy it. I would be interested in other books written by M R Leonard in the future. I thought this one is definitely worth a read and not to be missed.

I received paperback copy of M  R Leonard's Pilgrims from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
