My Review:

Out of the Mouths of Serial Killers is an interesting read. I found it to be brave for the author to have the nerve to write the most notorious killers in modern day American history. She wanted to find out why they would kill and asked them. The book is filled with their responses and correspondence with her. It is an interesting look at their personalities and what goes on or went on in their dark minds and in their very own words. The book, also includes other documents in the cases that help convict these murderers. Which include: interrogations, court testimonies, news outlet interviews, and hearings for parole. There are seventy five serial killers within the pages. The author gives a small biography on each one, as well as, a look at their list of crimes, crime scene photos, their unfortunate victims, how they were caught, and some facts about the cases. It is pretty obvious that the author did thorough research for this book. I was intrigued reading it.

I am going to give Out of the Mouths of Serial Killers four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who are interested in reading about serial murderers and notorious criminals. I would be interested in what else the author, Mary Brett, has written or what she plans to release in the future.

I received a paperback copy of Out of the Mouths of Serial Killers from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

RUNNING AND WRITING

I’m a runner. Over the years I’ve discovered so many benefits from running, including improved health, good outlook, sense of well-being, and even a spark to creativity. That’s a lot to get from an investment in a pair of running shoes!

Of course, running is also a great metaphor for life. This one sport exemplifies so much that we experience in our lives: success, failure, injury, joy, and pain. So, it’s not surprising that although my books are not specifically about running, they contain running scenes.

I got the idea for my first mystery novel, The Watch on the Fencepost, while I was out running. The first chapter of that book introduces the main character, Kathryn Frasier, as she runs a five-miler while training for a marathon. Kathryn deals with the sorrow of her parents’ recent deaths by putting in hard miles on the trails around the fictional town of Bellevue. As I wrote that narrative, I could almost feel Kathryn’s effort, her struggle to maintain pace, the pain in the final sprint, and the satisfaction of finishing well.

The second book in the series, Dead Man’s Watch, takes place just a month or so after the first one. Kathryn continues her training by running a half-marathon race. Once more I run with her as she experiences the elation of being in the lead pack (I’ve never been there!), the exhaustion as the miles build up (I do know about this), and a dramatic event as she nears the finish.

I hope readers will see the analogy between the Kathryn’s experiences on the trails and her efforts to try to solve the mysteries in each story. I’m working on the third book in the series now. I haven’t written any running scenes yet, but I’m sure Kathryn’s going to insist on putting one in.

My Review

Dead Man's Watch is the second installment from Kay Dibianca’s The Watch series. I have not had the pleasure of reading book one, The Watch on the Fencepost, and feel this one can be read as a stand one. I thought this was a pretty good cozy little mystery. I enjoy getting to know Kathryn Frasier and Cece Goldman. They were quite the duo and had me entertained from start to finish. I thought this adventure was a delight to read.

I am giving Dead Man's Watch four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean and fun suspense filled mystery. I would love to read more books by Kay Dibianca in the future and hope to read more books with Kathryn and Cece, as well.

My Review:

When the Sun Met the Moon is a great children’s book by Simran Mohinani. It was a cute story of how the sun was lonely and was in need of a partner and a break. During the search, the Sun, finds the Moon. The two are able to form a perfect partnership to give one another a break. I love how there were a few lessons to be learned within the pages. The Sun was feeling down and exhausted from continually lighting the Earth. Finally, decided to reach out for help and got the help and support that they need. We all need to have a support system to keep from us refreshed and energized.

When the Sun Met the Moon would not be complete without the talents of Leo Hartas. I love how the drawings of the sun, the moon and the landscapes of each page. The illustrations perfectly follow the story. I found the pictures to be a quite helpful addition to keep a younger minds focused as to what was going on.

I am giving When the Sun Met the Moon four stars. I would recommend it for readers who are between the ages of five and ten years old. It would be a good addition for a children’s library at home or at school. My family and I look forward to reading more by Simran Mohinani in the near future.

I received a paperback copy of When the Sun Met the Moon from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Why I write YA and the BFA series

I believe a teenager still exists inside each of us.

We hear a familiar tune from our “glory days” and are instantly tapping our toes. Mentally, we’re back in high school —poofy bangs, scrunchie, neon off-the-shoulder sweatshirt — and all. Oh, wait. That’s me back in the ‘80s!

Ah, yes. There is something wonderfully awful about those coming-of-age years.

From the first kiss to the first breakup, there are memories we cherish and some we don’t care to ever revisit. Being a teen can be exciting, confusing, painful, joyous, or even all of those things at once!

No matter how different your teenage experience was from mine, one thing is true for us all: these years have an enormous impact on who we become as adults. We can all sympathize with the plight of puberty and the longing for independence and acceptance. Yeah, there’s still a teenager in all of us!

These are the reasons I write YA.

My hope is to use the power of storytelling to move past barriers and open hearts to accept how much God loves and desires a personal relationship with us.

At every age, we all need the grace and love of Jesus.

In the Beauties from Ashes (BFA) series, I write about relatable characters with difficult issues and traumatic pasts to enlighten readers about the unseen spiritual battle referred to in Scripture. Each character has a secret that has left them vulnerable to the battle in an invisible realm where demonic creatures fight to keep them chained to their pasts and angels of light work to free them.

The characters and their issues are complex, just like real life. In fact, some of the topics are often considered too taboo to talk about openly. But what is left in the dark, festers and grows. It is only in the light that we can be free. In the BFA series, readers experience the character’s quest for truth, love, grace, and freedom while hopefully finding the same for themselves.

My Review

Awakening is the fourth installment from the Beauties from Ashes series by Beckie Lindsey. I have had the pleasure of reading book three, Daybreak, and was excited to have the opportunity to read this one. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed catching up with the characters from the previous books. I like that the story deals with real life issues that many readers would be able to relate and have a connection with. It is so powerful to read and I love the faith elements within the pages. It is so good.

I am giving Awakening four and a half stars. I am sad to see that this will be the last book from the Beauties from Ashes series. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean young adult novels.

More from Marguerite

Thank you for stopping by the Wait for Me tour. I’m so excited about the release of this novel, the finale of the Revolutionary Faith series,

I have always been fascinated with the ordinary—the simple acts from day to day. When an historical event is added, I surround my fascination with questions. What did they wear or eat? Why did they marry? Did they have children? Where did they shop? What is incredible or surprising to me about the historical event or activity was at one time ordinary to the characters whether in fiction or nonfiction.

The ordinary that I like to encounter and write in historical fiction includes how the characters dressed. I even had the dress pictured here made for me just in case I want to present in costume!

Also, I like to explore the food my characters ate. I found a wonderful recipe for a beefsteak pie in an American Girl cookbook. I’ve made it several times. Yummy!

The ordinary activities such as going to church or to the market or mercantile make the characters real. Their lives have depth in their interaction with society. My simple faith in God’s provisions and promises flow into the lives of my characters. What makes the story exciting is the historical element linked with the dramatic background of war.

Thank you for continuing the journey with Wait for Me, rooted in the ordinary from two centuries ago.

My Review

Wait for Me is the fifth installment from the Revolutionary Faith series. Even though it is part of series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. However, I think it would be best to read them in order. This one is so very good. It was fascinating to be transported back in time to eighteenth century Charles Town, South Carolina. I love the character of Elizabeth. She is such a brave and courageous woman. This story is one that is captivating from start to finish.

Wait for Me is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I look forward to reading the other books in the Revolutionary Faith series. I highly recommend this one for readers who enjoy clean historical fiction and those during the Revolutionary War era.

She is pleased to write for Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense, Harlequin Heartwarming and Poisoned Pen Press. Besides writing, she busies herself teaching third grade. More from Dana

What’s up in Death Valley?

As the desert vistas opened up in front of Papa Bear and me, I felt an amazing sense of peace. Mind you, we were visiting Death Valley in the fall. No braving the 130 plus summer temperatures for this couple! I simply cannot describe to you the wonder I felt, as a  suburbanite from a bustling, noisy Northern California city. There is never a moment at home when I see only open horizon, when I hear nothing but quiet breezes. I was, quite simply, stunned.

I had done some research about places to visit as potential series settings, and Death Valley was at the top of the list. The websites did not disappoint. Artist’s Palette, the gorgeous peak painted in a rainbow of rock colors? Check! Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, glistening with salt and not so lifeless as one might think…check! How about my favorite moment…jouncing along the precarious trail through Titus Canyon? Check! Would all of these incomparable locations be suitable for a six book suspense series? Roger that!

It’s ironic that I felt so welcomed by such an inhospitable locale. Visiting is one thing, but it takes a certain rugged breed of individuals to live in such a hostile climate. What fodder for fiction! I simply could not wait to get home and start creating the Duke family. And you know what? When this pandemic is over, Death Valley is the first place I want to return…in the fall, of course! Do you have a place near and dear to your heart? What’s first on your travel list after the world opens up again?

My Review

I have enjoyed books from Dana Mentink in the past and was excited to get my hands on her newest release. Framed in Death Valley begins her Desert Justice series. This one may be my favorite I have read by her to date. It was so very good. It has a lot of mystery and suspense, as well as, adventure and action. I loved the two main characters, Laney and Beckett. The twists and turns of their story was not easily predictable and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Framed in Death Valley will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy a quick, clean and romantic suspense. I can not wait to read book two from the Desert Justice series to see what will happen next.

I received Framed in Death Valley from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
