Karen Malley lives in Southeastern Pennsylvania with her husband and two sons. She works full-time as a scientist but fits writing in her spare time whenever possible. This usually means writing in her pajamas on weekend mornings while the rest of the family is asleep. When not writing, she enjoys camping, hiking, playing board games, and especially reading! Sunflowers and Suspicions is the third full book in the Pine Springs series. While you may discover some spoilers from the previous books, this book can be read as a standalone. I wrote Sunflowers in Suspicions because I loved the characters so much, I wanted their stories to continue!

This was a fun book to write. Julie was a minor character in the previous books in the series, and her story needed to be told. Living in the shadow of a glamorous twin sister hasn’t dampened her enthusiasm for life, but her self-esteem suffered a hit, making it difficult to believe a guy could be interested in her instead of her sister. Most of us have been there! God promises He’s given gifts to all His children, but if our gifts don’t seem to measure up to those we perceive others have, we lose our joy.

 

Granted, Julie has a lot more than that to deal with – her twin sister goes missing, and her former boss may know more than he’s letting on. Couple that with feelings of inadequacy since all her friends have special guys and the fact the guy Julie starts to fall for seems more interested in her sister, and it’s easy for her to feel second rate. God never wants that for us. While Sunflowers and Suspicions is a tale of suspense and romance, it also taught me a thing or two about accepting myself for who God made me to be. I hope it does the same for you!

My Review

Sunflowers and Suspicions is the third installment from the Pine Springs series by Karen Malley. I have previously read another book from this series and enjoyed it. This one can be read as a stand alone. I have to admit that it took a couple of chapters to get through before I was hooked and could not put it down. I thought it was a fun and entertaining book to read about identical twins, Jade and Julie. Jade goes missing and Julie is determined to find out what happened to her sister. While she tries to figure out happened to Jade, she meets Matt. The two makes a great team in trying to discover the truth with Jade’s disappearance. They were a delight and so cute together. While trying to figure out what is going, they start to learn more about themselves and learning the importance of forgiveness, learning how to heal, and learning how to letting go of the past. Overall, this is a charming, heartwarming, and compelling little mystery that kept me intrigued. This was a great way for me to get through a cold and snowy day. 

Sunflowers and Suspicions will be getting four stars from me. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romance that has a little suspense. I will be looking for other books from the Pine Springs series that I have yet to read.

Follow your heart or your head?

In my early days in college, I dated a young man who wasn’t a Christian, but that didn’t stop my attraction to him. My heart wanted to be with him, but my head knew better. Later, another young man entered my life who was perfect for me on paper. He was kind, intelligent, taught Sunday school… We went out one time, but there wasn’t a spark. I decided I had to find the guy who captured both my heart and my head.

Fast forward to the summer before my junior year, and a third young man entered the picture. He was fun to be around, made me laugh, and believed in Jesus. We became friends and spent a lot of together before I finally admitted my attraction to him. Having been hurt before, I vowed not to get involved unless God was in it. I prayed about it, felt God’s blessing, and we’ve now been married over 20 years.

In A Second Chance for Grace, Susan finds herself in a similar situation. Mac instantly captures her heart, but circumstances cause her to doubt whether he’s the right man for her. When she meets Sam, she finds he checks all the boxes on paper, but she can’t seem to convince her heart he’s right for her. Having been in the same situation, it was easy for me to write about Susan’s dilemma.

Susan navigates many twists and turns throughout the book, from her pregnant niece moving into her apartment, to dealing with a mysterious briefcase left behind by a tenant, to trying to solve the dilemma of which man to choose. Through it all, she tries to follow God’s will for her life.

A Second Chance for Grace is the second book in the Pine Springs series. Mac and Susan meet in the first book, Following the Sparrows. To learn more about them (and their good friends), you’ll want to read Following the Sparrows first, but it isn’t necessary, as A Second Chance for Grace is a standalone novel.

Just like in real life, the characters in the novel have difficult decisions to make. Sometimes they make the right ones, sometimes they do not. Through it all, God proves He is the God of second chances!

My Review

A Second Chance for Grace is the second installment from Karen Malley’s series, Pine Springs. It is, also, my first introduction to this author. Since I have not read the first book, I believe this one can be read as a stand alone. I thought it was a pretty good read. Susan and Christopher were good characters to get to know. I enjoyed the scenes when they were together. Susan is one that many readers would be able to relate with. Such a sweet and inspiring short story. 

A Second Chance for Grace is getting a four and a half stars from me. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean and sweet romance. I look forward to reading more from the Pine Springs series.
