More from Kirthana

Reflecting on a significant milestone in my life, one I deeply cherish, I can’t help but think about the journey I’ve traveled. It all started in the shadows of fear, discouragement, and neglect during my childhood. However, it was the profound influence of God’s word, the power of prayer, and the unwavering support system that surrounded me that illuminated my path in countless ways.

For 13 years, I grappled with consistency and security in my previous job as a TV producer and content head. I felt a void in my life, a sense that something was missing. So, I turned to prayer and patiently waited for God to reveal His will for me. And He did just that, leading me to become a children’s author dedicated to writing Christian faith-based books that encourage and inspire young hearts, guiding them closer to Christ.

”The Girl and Her Noble Steed” emerged from my desire to create a book brimming with adventure and faith. Through this book, I hope to teach children that a miracle is just a prayer away and that nothing is impossible for those who love and believe in God. This knowledge was not readily available to me while I was growing up, and I don’t want any child to miss out on a relationship with Jesus.

Now, let me share a fun fact about the book. Just like the quirky words that fill the pages of “The Girl and Her Noble Steed,” I too have a penchant for using quirky words in my everyday life. It’s a small touch of my personality that adds an extra layer of charm to the stories I write.

So, what’s my goal? It’s simple. I aim to bring smiles to children’s faces while sowing the seeds of wonder and wisdom in their minds. Why, you may wonder? Once upon a time, I was a wide-eyed dreamer navigating the complexities of growing up. But then Jesus found me, and in His love, I discovered peace and comfort. Now, I’m on a mission to remind kids that they are truly amazing. I want every child to understand that they are special and important and that God’s love for them is boundless.

This is just the first book in a series, and I plan to release Book 2 just in time for Easter, continuing the journey of faith and inspiration for young readers.

Book Blast and Giveaway: Poetry from My Heart: The Journey Continues by Paul Guerin

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Paul Guerin will be awarding a $10 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

"Poetry: writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm."

"Poetry: a literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm."

Poetry means different things to different people. For me, it is all about feelings. If it captures the emotions of the reader, a poem will resonate and fill the soul. It can mean everything to one person and not much at all to another. The mood of the reader, and no one else, determines the outcome.

For example, love poems are wonderful when you are in love, and their passion is amazing. If you are facing adversity, however, love poems likely will just annoy you.

In this second book, Poetry from my Heart: The Journey Continues, I have again divided the poems into categories which will fit your mood no matter what you are experiencing at the time you choose to explore them. There should be something for everyone, whether you are in love, out of love, hurt, lonely, angry, abandoned, or facing other challenges in your life.

Poetry has a healing power that nurtures the soul and quietens the mind and so I hope that whatever your situation is in life, you have found something here that helped you safely on your own journey.

The green hills of Ireland

The green hills of Ireland are calling to me
I hear their soft whisper wherever I roam
No matter whether on land or on sea
The green hills of Ireland keep calling me home

I lived in old Ireland as a young lad you see
And I left my heart there on some mossy hillside
Now I yearn to go back to set my heart free
And awaken a dream I can no longer hide

For I love your high mountains and windy seashore
Your hills and your streams rolling down to the sea
And I long to go home to my lost land of yore
And return to the Irish that’s deep within me

Now sheep in the pastures are calling to me
From the craggy rock walls that keep them inside
While the streams that run down from the mountains so free
Speak sparkling with hope and a joy they can’t hide

I long for the ocean on the Wild Atlantic Way
And the crazy coast road that winds in and out
And the sea breeze that whispers I hope you will stay
And the people all happily wandering about

I remember the old priory standing in ruins
Near Castletownroche with its bridge and its mill
I recall all the pubs with their loud Irish tunes
And my mind wanders back where my soul lingers still

I miss all the people so friendly and kind
With their musical language and soft Irish smiles
How they welcomed me home with a grace so refined
That I felt their great love from thousands of miles

The green hills of Ireland keep calling to me
Come home now we’re waiting to see you once more
For you know in your heart it’s the place you must be
So return again Irish to your green land of yore

About the Author:
Paul Guerin is an Irishman. He was born in September 1946 in Castletownroche, a small townland village in County Cork, Eire.

It was there in Castletownroche that his romantic imagination was sparked as he came to love and appreciate the magic of his surroundings. Those early experiences were the genesis of his poetry that emerged in later life.

As a young adult, Paul lived in London, England, where he became a chartered accountant.

At age 25, restless for adventure, Paul moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where he still resides today.

Paul is happily married and is a proud father and grandfather.

Paul writes poetry as the inspiration comes to him. As long as his mind, body and soul are willing companions and his spark of inspiration remains alive, he will continue to write.

This book is Paul's second publication in his Willing Heart series. His first book was published in the Spring of 2022 and is called Poetry from My Heart: A Journey through Feelings. The book reached #1 on Amazon’s Kindle chart in British Poetry and #2 in Poetry Anthologies November 2023.

BEHIND HER SMILE by Beverly Golden Cuevas Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

Behind Her Smile: The Adventures of a Tall Girl from WVA and Her Life as a Stewardess is an interesting read by Beverly Golden Cuevas. It was great meeting Janie, reading about her upcoming, seeing her determination for a new life and her adventures as a flight attendant. I was entertained to see where her profession took her and who came across along the day. I mean, how cool is it that a West Virginian girl becomes friends with THE King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley. I felt a connection with Janie as she described her struggles in finding her own way, finding out who she really was, and finding the place where she truly fit in in this world. The book is full of variety of emotions, I would be smiling and laughing one minute and teary eyed the next. I thought it was a great book to read that offers the reader some important lessons to learn from. I loved it and really enjoyed reading it.

I am giving Behind Her Smile: The Adventures of a Tall Girl from WVA and Her Life as a Stewardess five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Delaware from Railways to Freeways / First State, Second Phase by Dave Tabler

Book Details:

Book Title:  Delaware from Railways to Freeways / First State, Second Phase by Dave Tabler
Category: Adult Non-Fiction, 110 pages
Genre: American History, Colonial
Publisher: Dave Tabler
Publication Date: Nov 1, 2023
Content Rating: G. Suitable for all audiences.

"Delaware from Railroads to Freeways by Dave Tabler is a visually stunning book that takes readers on a captivating journey through Delaware's 19th-century history. With engaging narrative and stunning graphics that seem to leap off the page, this book provides an immersive and enthralling reading experience as Tabler chronicles the rich history of Delaware. This is his second installment of a three-part series on the history of Delaware – the First State.... For Delaware natives and enthusiasts, this is probably one of the best-illustrated background books of Delaware's 19th-century history as you can find about the First State. It is truly a captivating book." -- AuthorsReading

"Dave Tabler’s Delaware from Railways to Freeways is a fascinating history text covering important sites and artifacts from the first state. The book includes a wealth of historical and social insights into the production techniques and ultimate significance behind the early Delaware artifacts and events it covers. It makes note of the geographical importance of certain buildings and landscapes as well. Detailed images appear on each page of the book alongside brief, evocative descriptions of their meaning and significance. The result is an involving pictorial history of the evolution of Delaware, complemented by distinguishing coverage of the development of the state’s transportation infrastructure." -- Foreword Reviews

"Tabler’s second entry in a trilogy covering the history of Delaware rides the rails into the First State’s storied past, covering the tumultuous yet prosperous 19th century and the dawn of the 20th, that era of iron, steam, Civil War, suffragettes, technical marvels, and surprises both fun—like the history of scrapple, or the suspender-and-pants rig known as a “breeches buoy” used to rescue mariners—to the morbid, like public whipping posts or the jolting tale of a child’s corpse being sent through the mail. The stories of trends, people, and material goods that Tabler highlights, in short and inviting bursts of text, are interesting and well buttressed by the copious illustrations." -- Booklife

"The contents are entertaining and varied, offering glimpses of little-known aspects of American history, from Colonial-era enmity between Whigs and Tories to inventions such as the Manby mortar, a cannon-like device used in rescuing people from sinking ships, to a bartending goose." -- Kirkus Reviews

"
Delaware from Railways to Freeways is the second book in a series that began with Delaware Before the Railroads and whose planned conclusion is Delaware from Freeways to e-Ways. In his preface, author Dave Tabler touts the advent of the railroad, saying that it “ushered in a prosperous era for the First State” due to Delaware’s “strategic location” on the Delaware Bay. The book is mostly photographs, all of which are vibrant and compelling and include objects that would not be present in most histories of the state, such as John Jones’s adjustable peach sorter: an 1874 invention that revolutionized peach sorting. Or the crawlspace in the home of Quaker couple Daniel and Mary Corbit, in which they hid a fugitive slave in 1845. Tabler’s captions are bite-sized yet satisfying, offering readers a plethora of history without making them feel overworked. ...More a coffee-table book than a proper history, Dave Tabler’s Delaware from Railways to Freeways is a worthy read for any devotee of Delaware’s past." -- Indie Reader

"
Delaware from Railways to Freeways offers readers a captivating journey through Delaware’s lesser-known history. It is an excellent choice for those who relish reading about unusual facts and harbor a passion for history, even if it occasionally leans toward trivia. This book provides a valuable contribution to understanding Delaware’s rich heritage." -- Literary Titan

Meet the Author:

Ten year old Dave Tabler decided he was going to read the ‘R’ volume from the family’s World Book Encyclopedia set over summer vacation. He never made it from beginning to end. He did, however, become interested in Norman Rockwell, rare-earth elements, and Run for the Roses.

Tabler’s father encouraged him to try his hand at taking pictures with the family camera. With visions of Rockwell dancing in his head, Tabler press-ganged his younger brother into wearing a straw hat and sitting next to a stream barefoot with a homemade fishing pole in his hand. The resulting image was terrible.

Dave Tabler went on to earn degrees in art history and photojournalism despite being told he needed a ‘Plan B.'

Fresh out of college, Tabler contributed the photography for The Illustrated History of American Civil War Relics, which taught him how to work with museum curators, collectors, and white cotton gloves. He met a man in the Shenandoah Valley who played the musical saw, a Knoxville fellow who specialized in collecting barbed wire, and Tom Dickey, brother of the man who wrote ‘Deliverance.’

In 2006 Tabler circled back to these earlier encounters with Appalachian culture as an idea for a blog. AppalachianHistory.net today reaches 375,000 readers a year.

Dave Tabler moved to Delaware in 2010 and became smitten with its rich past. He no longer copies Norman Rockwell, but his experience working with curators and collectors came in handy when he got the urge to photograph a love letter to Delaware’s early heritage. This may be the start of something.

My Review:

As soon as I opened the package with Delaware from Railways to Freeways: First State, Second Phase inside, it was struggle to get it back from my twelve year old son’s hands. He loves anything historical and he quickly dove in and started reading it. He greatly enjoyed it with all of the pictures and illustrations that is throughout the whole book. He would not quit talking about it.

Once I finally had the chance to read Delaware from Railways to Freeways: First State, Second Phase for myself, I understood his excitement. I found it interesting to read different customs and folklores of the times in addition to the history I have not heard of before. It was captivating to read. The author obviously did his research to bring this book to life. I thought it was great.

The Ever After

I’ve always loved fairytales.

Especially the romanticized version (#romancewriter).

The wonderful sense of a two people meeting, overcoming obstacles to be together, and then the happily-ever-after?

Well, those are some of my favorite reasons to read and write fiction. However, I didn’t realize the challenge I took on when I agreed to write a second and third book with the main characters staying the same!

You know what I mean?

In most series, the main characters from book one become secondary characters in the consecutive books so that the secondary characters in book one can become the main characters in book 2 (everybody still following along? 🙂)

One of my favorite book series that do this so well is the Amelia Peabody series. I fell in LOVE with Amelia and Emerson in book one, but just loved watching their continued dynamic as a couple grow with each new book. I felt as if I got to know them so much better in their “ever after” while they engaged in all sorts of adventures together.

So…that’s what I hoped to accomplish with Freddie and Grace.

Where The Mistletoe Countess ends with a happily-ever-after, The Cairo Curse and The Juliet Code take over to show us more of the…ever after – my attempt at showing how two main characters continue to grow beyond the end of book one.

I didn’t realize what a daunting feat it would be. Watching two characters meet, fall in love, and show some growth in book 1 was what I was used to doing. But how was I supposed to continue that character growth in consecutive books?

Well, I had to grow myself as a writer to understand how small changes can make lasting differences especially when writing about a beloved couple.

I think The Juliet Code shows a little of that growth – of our Freddie and Grace have not only matured spiritually and, in Grace’s case, experientially, but also as a couple.

Do you have a series that you love where the main characters stay the same?

My Review

After the previous books from the Freddie and Grace Mysteries, The Mistletoe Countess and The Cairo Curse, I wondered how Pepper Basham would be able to top those two. The third installment, The Juliet Code does not disappoint. It is by far my favorite of the series. It was great catching up with Frederick and Grace Percy in Italy. Once again there is a mystery to be solved and had to find out how it would end. What a fabulous read.

I am giving The Juliet Code a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read books that are clean historical mysteries. As always, I will be looking for more from Pepper Basham.

I received a paperback copy of Pepper Basham’s The Juliet Code from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
