THE infection hit with such ferocity and speed that all public trans¬port had shut down by the end of my husband’s meeting in DC, sixty-five miles from home. No car, no commuter train, no way out.

In the five hours since he’d arrived in the city that morning, police had blockaded roads and barred highway entrances. Airlines delayed flights and then canceled them. Residents, under threat of arrest, huddled in their homes, and universities restricted students to dorms. Government officials shuttered public buildings, closing, and locking the gates.

Television news showed black-helmeted National Guardsmen herd¬ing panicked tourists back toward their hotels as they stampeded down unfamiliar streets. Coast Guard cutters patrolled the Potomac River; helicopters buzzed overhead. From Capitol Hill to the Ellipse, red lights on Constitution Avenue blinked on and off. Front pages of the morning newspaper skittered across empty streets.

I waited for Ted to call.

My Review: 

I did not hesitate to have the chance to listen to The Axe by Linda Griffin. It was a short tale but it was full of mystery and suspense. There were moments that made me a little confused as to where the author was going with this, but it all came together in end. I thought the characters were easy to like and I enjoyed getting to know them. The plot was fast paced that had me often guessing what could possibly happen from scene to scene. I had no difficulty listening to the whole book without having to hit the pause button. It was a great way to be entertained while having to deal with daily chores. Overall, a good thrilling ride that had me hooked from the start until the very end. I loved it. 

The Axe is narrated by Eric Priessman. I enjoyed his voice while listening to this version of the book. I believe his performance was just what author needed to bring this story to life. 

I found that The Axe to be a five plus star read. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading and or listening to quick mystery and suspense. I would be interested in diving into more books from the talented Linda Griffin in the future.

Maestro Huntley Milne regrets committing to host a group of college students, especially when Aunt BeeBee ends up in a care home, forcing him to move into the Milne Monstrosity on Sycamore Street which is about two hours northeast of London. Aunt BeeBee is nagging him to locate the missing Milne stave book, Dory and David are fretting about being put back into foster care, and even his aunt’s cats are high maintenance. Then he meets McKay Moonlight…

McKay Moonlight was thrilled when she won the musical apprenticeship at Maestro Huntley Milne’s Highlands Music Center.  After all, she had a little crush on him for years after seeing him play at the Rocky Mountain Fiddler Championships. When the apprenticeship is relocated to a tiny town near the Deben River, rather than the Highlands of her ancestors, she takes it in stride. My Review

The Maestro's Missing Melody is part of the multi author series, Our House on Sycamore Street, and Amy Walsh's contribution. I thought it was a wonderful introduction to this author and the series. I found it to be a fun and entertaining read that was not short on laughs. I enjoyed getting to know McKay and Huntley and seeing the two interact. I thought they had great chemistry. 

I am going to give The Maestro's Missing Melody four and a half stars. I recommend for readers who enjoy reading clean romantic comedies. I would love to read more by Amy Walsh, as well as, the other releases from the Our House on Sycamore Street series.

There is no description of sex but my protagonist follows an online creator who does adult content (her content is never described at all other than to say it exists). The main thing is the violence in my book. It is not gory but it does involve children dying.

PILGRIMS by M.R. Leonard Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

Pilgrims is a good debut novel for author M R Leonard. I have to admit I am not a fan of fantasy and science fiction, particularly those containing aliens. After reading the description, I was not sure if this book would be for me. However, my interest was piqued and I wanted to open the first page to find out if it would be or not. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I did enjoy it. It was full of action and adventure, often thought provoking, with the addition of some suspense. I never would have guessed that I would have liked an alien filled novel this much. The plot was fast paced and easy to keep me engaged. The characters were well developed and relatable. I thought it was a good way to spend the hours away on the cold, snowy days. It is probably one of the best novels from the science fiction genre I have read to date.

I am going to give Pilgrims four and a half stars. I have no doubt fans of aliens, science fiction, and fantasy fiction will really enjoy it. I would be interested in other books written by M R Leonard in the future. I thought this one is definitely worth a read and not to be missed.

My Review:

I am a huge fan of history and genealogy. After years of researching, I found that I was a descendant of Judith of Flanders. I was so fascinated with her, her life, and wanted to read as much about her. I was excited to find there was a new historical fiction based on Judith called The Girl of Many Crowns. D H Morris' talent shines through in this debut. She no doubt did extensive research to bring this story to life. I loved how they were able to portray Judith. The historical details were so vivid, I felt as though I was transported back in time and living in the medieval times. She was such a strong, brave woman to fight for what she believed in and live the life she wanted. I admired her determination and courage all throughout the book. I had to keep turning those pages continuously. I loved every single page. 

I am going to give a The Girl of Many Crowns a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for history lovers and for those who enjoy historical fiction based on a true story. I would love to read more like this one from D H Morris in the future. They have earned themselves a new fan with me.

My daughter is an amazing person. After having three children, she and her husband felt God calling them to do more for children without parents. They fostered eleven children. But one year, they were asked to foster a newborn infant whose mother was no longer able to care for any of her children due to drug addiction. It is a middle-grade reader about a middle school girl who, while wrestling with the question of being adopted and being rejected by her birth mother, meets a fascinating elderly lady. The vision of an angel provides help and guidance as this young girl comes to realize her adoptive parents were selected for her by God. My Review

I found Charlotte McMaster and the Messenger Angel to be an heartwarming tale. Terry Overton has a special way of bringing a true to life story of faith. I loved Charlotte's story so much. It is not a long one that I easily had read in a short amount of time, but it was full of inspiration and heart touching moments. It had some important life lessons to learn from, especially one that God always has a plan for us all. 

Five stars is what I am giving Charlotte McMaster and the Messenger Angel. I recommend it for readers of all ages who enjoy clean fiction. I would love to read more like this one from Terry Overton in the future.

He grabbed a bandanna from his back pocket and blew his nose with one hand. “I’ve just lost the most important thing in my life.” He paused and stared at the ground. “I don’t know how I can go on without her.” His voice cracked on the last word. Once again he paused, but much longer this time. His prominent Adam’s apple bobbed several times. “I’ve been crying out to God, but I don’t think He’s listening to me right now. If He were . . . ”

What a thing for a man to admit to them. Florence knew he must be near a breakdown. He did need help, but what could they do?

“I’ve decided . . . it would be best to find another family to raise one of my girls.” He stood straighter. “I’ve watched you with Margaret Lenora . . . ”

“Is that what you’ve named her?” Florence gazed at the sleeping baby, and her heart ached for the child. To grow up without a mother.

“Yes.” Angus looked straight at Joshua, and her husband gave a slow nod.

“Your husband has told me . . . how much you’ve wanted a child.”

For a moment, anger flared in her chest. Joshua shouldn’t share her secret with anyone. She took a deep breath to keep from saying something she’d regret. Even though she didn’t even look at her husband, she could feel his gaze deep inside. She was grateful he couldn’t see the ugly jealousy and covetousness that resided there.

My Review

I have always loved to read Lena Nelson Dooley's historical romances. The start to her McKenna's Daughters series, Maggie's Journey, is no different. I enjoyed reading Maggie's story and taking this adventure with her and Charles. It was nice going back in time with the duo and being part of their tale. There was a lot that kept me engaged with love, romance, history, finding oneself, and redemption. It was a sweet and heartwarming book to read on a rainy afternoon.

I am giving Maggie's Journey four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. I look forward to continuing McKenna's Daughters series with Mary's Blessings.
