Book Description:
The true and inspiring story of a powerful knight and a run-away queen who unite to defy an empire.
King Charles, the first king of France, is beset by Vikings, rebel lords, and his brother, all seeking to take his kingdom. To strengthen his kingdom, King Charles marries his twelve-year-old daughter Judith to elderly, widowed Aethelwulf, King of Wessex. When Aethelwulf dies unexpectedly, Judith is pressed into marrying Aethelwulf's cruel eldest son. When her second husband also dies, twice-widowed Judith refuses to accept a third arranged marriage.
As punishment for her refusal, King Charles imprisons 16-year-old Judith in one of his palaces where she is visited by her brother, Louis, and his knightly companion, Count Baldwin “Iron Arm.” When Baldwin helps Judith escape, they are hunted by her father’s men and must flee for their lives. Can Baldwin and Judith hold on to each other and their faith as they face the fury of an empire?

My Review:
I am a huge fan of history and genealogy. After years of researching, I found that I was a descendant of Judith of Flanders. I was so fascinated with her, her life, and wanted to read as much about her. I was excited to find there was a new historical fiction based on Judith called The Girl of Many Crowns. D H Morris' talent shines through in this debut. She no doubt did extensive research to bring this story to life. I loved how they were able to portray Judith. The historical details were so vivid, I felt as though I was transported back in time and living in the medieval times. She was such a strong, brave woman to fight for what she believed in and live the life she wanted. I admired her determination and courage all throughout the book. I had to keep turning those pages continuously. I loved every single page.
I am going to give a The Girl of Many Crowns a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for history lovers and for those who enjoy historical fiction based on a true story. I would love to read more like this one from D H Morris in the future. They have earned themselves a new fan with me.
I received a paperback copy of D H Morris' The Girl of Many Crowns from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I am so looking forward to reading this book. I love that she truly did the research needed to make this book as authentic as possible.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your wonderful review! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed The Girl of Many Crowns and that you are also related to Judith. Your appreciation for the historical details truly means the world to me. I discovered Judith in my family tree four times and initially thought it was an error, but after researching her story, I realized how incredible it was. I felt compelled to share it.
ReplyDeleteI’m currently working on a prequel that will feature Judith's grandmother, also named Judith. I believe her story might be the inspiration behind the Cinderella fairytale. However, instead of wicked stepsisters, it was her stepsons who caused so much turmoil and heartache in her life.
Thank you again for your thoughtful and generous feedback, and happy reading adventures to you!
It sounds like a really interesting book. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the clean line elegancy of the cover design.
