A couple of years ago, I asked readers on my Facebook page what they were interested in reading in Christian fiction. When one reader and friend suggested I write about the Bone Wars, I was intrigued and instantly excited. I had no idea how much of a blessing writing the Treasures of the Earth series would be.

I traveled all over western Colorado, eastern Utah and southern Wyoming, looking at the incredible displays of bones of magnificent creatures of our past. Stopping at every tiny museum along the way, and even driving miles and miles into the middle of nowhere to find just the right setting for The Secrets Beneath. But it was going to Dinosaur National Monument in Jensen, Utah that truly helped these three books come to life.

The monument was established in October 1915 by President Woodrow Wilson. The 80 acres encompassed the Carnegie Quarry, where paleontologist Earl Douglass was digging, trying to find intact dinosaur skeletons to send back to Carnegie’s museum in Pittsburgh. Eventually, President Franklin D. Roosevelt expanded the park to encompass more than 200,000 acres.

But this monument wouldn’t exist without the determination of one man: Earl Douglass. I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Diane Douglass Iverson, his granddaughter, during one of my research trips. She was generous with her time and memories as she shared her grandfather’s journals and memories with me. The longer we talked, the more the idea for what would be the third book of this series took shape. Though Earl is not a primary character in Eliza’s story, his presence and impact on the science of paleontology is felt through the pages.

In fact, each chapter of all three books has a quote from the book his son created out of his journal entries, titled Speak to the Earth and It Will Teach You. I am grateful to Diane for the opportunity to share his struggles, hopes, and dreams with my readers.

With this last book, I hope you enjoy Eliza’s joyful spirit, as well as her struggles to find her place in this world. She’s a spirited young woman with a passion for fossils and how God has created this incredible planet. You’ll get to visit Dinosaur National Monument with her, seeing the founding of this great national treasure through her eyes. I hope you love visiting there in your imagination and that you get the opportunity to visit on your own someday. But even more than that, I pray that, like Eliza, you find joy and confidence where God has placed you in His story.

My Review

I have enjoyed the first two releases from the Treasures of the Earth series by Kimberley Woodhouse. I was excited once I had the third installment, A Hope Unburied, in my hands. It is by far my favorite of the series and among my favorites I have read this year. I adored Devin and Eliza's story. I thought the plot was unique and refreshing. I loved taking this adventure with them and travelling back in time to early twentieth century Utah. 

I am giving A Hope Unburied a very well deserved five plus stars. I would give it one hundred if I could. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read clean and sweet historical romance. I will definitely be on the look out for more books from the talents of Kimberley Woodhouse

My Review

I enjoyed reading the first two books from the Secrets of the Canyon series by Kimberley Woodhouse and was excited to have the opportunity to read the third installment, A Mark of Grace. It is by far my favorite of the series. I enjoyed getting to know Ruth and Frank. I thought they had great chemistry and made a wonderful team. I felt a connection to Ruth and could understand her. This is a fabulous story of redemption, faith, love and hope. 

I am giving A Mark of Grace five stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical fiction. As always, I will be looking forward to the next release by Kimberley Woodhouse.

BRIDGE OF GOLD was a blast for me to write. Not only do I love writing dual-timeline stories, but the present-day hero and heroine are named after my daughter and her husband. Steven and Kayla in the book are fictitious, but there are a few things in the book that do mimic their real-life namesakes.

One of them is food.

My son-in-law Steven in real life is six-foot-four and active military. The man can eat. It’s amazing to me how many calories it takes just for him to survive! Then there’s my daughter, Kayla. She was an elite swimmer for many years along with her brother. I could never keep them fed when they were at the height of their swimming careers. In fact, I joked that all I did was cook and load the dishwasher during those years.

To celebrate the release of BRIDGE OF GOLD, I’m going to give out a recipe that I created almost thirty years ago. It went through many revisions the first few months as I perfected it and now you get a special treat because I do not give this recipe out. In fact, one of my dearest friends begged for it when our kids were little. I gave in but made her promise to close her eyes while she made it (LOL) and to never, ever give it to anyone else.

Kim’s Chocolate Chunk Cookies – recipe by Kimberley Woodhouse

2 cups King Arthur all-purpose flour

½ tsp. baking soda

½ tsp. kosher salt

¾ cup melted/browned butter (this is important! Don’t skip this step)

2 Tb. Hot chocolate mix

1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar

½ cup white sugar

1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk

1 – 12 ounce package mega morsels (I use Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips)

Directions: combine the first three dry ingredients and mix well. In a small saucepan on the stove, melt and brown the butter. Medium heat is recommended but you’ve got to watch it so it doesn’t burn. You want a beautiful caramel color. Set aside and allow to cool to around 100 degrees F before continuing. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Once the browned butter is cool, add the hot chocolate mix to it. Transfer to a stand mixer and blend the butter mixture with the sugar. Whip it until well combined and frothy about 2 mins. Gradually add eggs and flour mixture, beating on low just until blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Using a cookie scoop, drop heaping TB scoops 2 inches apart on parchment paper lined cookie sheets. Bake at 325 degrees for 12-14 minutes, watching carefully. Allow to cool on cookie sheets for 5 minutes and then transfer to cooling racks. Enjoy!

My Review

Bridge of Gold is yet another great addition to the Doors to the Past series. I have loved this series and  Kimberley Woodhouse’s contribution was not a disappointment. It was a great tale that takes readers to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California. As Kayla and Steven become quite the team when they have to investigate unsolved murders and newly discovered treasure from the Gold Rush era. I was hooked right the start and was captivated all the way to the end. I found myself wrapped up in the mystery and had to find out how it would be solved. 

I am giving Bridge of Gold a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romantic suspense.

My Review: 

The Express Bride is another fabulous addition to the Daughters of the Mayflower. This story involves the Pony Express. I found the books to be fun and engaging. It is not long and I had no problem having it read in just a few hours.

I give The Express Bride four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who love clean, historical fiction. I loved it and believe it should not be missed.

My Review: 

I loved The Golden Bride. This eighth installment to Daughters of the Mayflower series was a great addition to it. I enjoyed seeing the historical years of San Francisco, California. I loved the courage of Olivia. She was a woman before her time. It was fun when she was interacting with Joseph. They had wonderful chemistry together.

I am giving The Golden Bride a well deserved five stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy American History fiction.
