Mac was nearly back at his cabin when he heard Garth’s frantic bark again. The sound didn’t come from the lake, and Garth wasn’t hunting night critters like he had earlier suspected. The bark echoed from near the barn.

“Garth!” Mac yelled into the night.

Two sharp barks burst in rapid succession from the dog. A long, piercing howl swiftly followed.

Worried the dog might be in trouble, Mac sprinted toward the barn, surprised to find all the doors shut. He forced one of the large double doors open, and Garth burst out, almost knocking him over.

Mac stepped into the darkened barn and called out, “Vern? You in here?”

Nothing.

Squatting down to Garth’s level, he got a couple of quick face licks. “How did you get shut up in the barn?” He ruffled the dog’s ears and noticed the big canine looked a little unsteady on his feet. “You okay, boy?”

Garth wagged his tail, and Mac led him out into the moonlight for a better look. A scream ripped through the night air, stopping them both.

Cory!

Mac sprinted toward the main house with Garth, breathless and struggling to keep up, already winded. Something was wrong with the big dog, but he couldn’t afford to worry about that right now.

The two tore through the border of the side garden. Mac spied the kitchen door to the main house standing wide open and raced that direction.

A second scream sliced through the air. This one sounded closer to the front of the house, and Mac changed course to race in that direction. Garth stayed straight and bounded through the open kitchen door as Mac cleared the front corner of the house.

He stumbled when he caught sight of a man in dark clothes and a black hoodie, half-carrying, half-dragging Cory down the front steps with a knife to her throat. Mac skidded silently into the rhododendron bushes lining the porch. The assailant hissed over his shoulder to someone behind him.

Okay. Two tangos.

Child psychologist Rachel Kelly has her Christmas stocking full of troubles this holiday season, both personal and professional. Recently separated from her boyfriend, Rachel still loves him but has no idea how to win him back. If that’s not enough to cause her sleepless nights, she’s uncertain how to handle her newest therapy client—a six-year-old boy who claims he talks to Watchers. And a Watcher is coming to help Rachel.

Lt. Jake Dillon has his heart broken when his fiancĂ©e Rachel, without warning, suddenly calls it quits. Yet when a stalker crashes Rachel's Christmas party and takes her young clients hostage, Jake is the first person Rachel calls. Now he has a choice to make—stand back and wait for the cavalry to save her, or step in and try to save her himself. Time is running out, and Jake may be their only chance for rescue.

Unless Rachel's young Watcher spy is telling the truth . . .

This romantic suspense tale with paranormal elements is Book 2 in The Watchers series . . . A captivating tale of small-town Christmas romance that will leave you looking over your shoulder and wondering, Is someone watching me?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
“Jake, I came by to see you because of the Buckhead crisis.”
“I figured as much.”
Rachel could’ve sworn he looked disappointed for a fleeting moment. That gave her the courage to go on. “To offer my shoulder—”
“To cry on?” he sneered.
“No! To lean on. Please don’t be ugly.”
“I can’t help it. You broke us up.”
Incredulous, she gaped at him. “Me! Must I keep reminding you? You left me.”
He closed the distance between them, so close she could feel his body heat.
“You let me leave,” he said gruffly.
“I didn’t—”
“You let me leave,” he repeated, his face but inches away.
His unique Jake scent wafted over her. She wanted to smother in it. She wanted . . .
“I didn’t want you to go,” she whispered.
He caught her to him in a fierce embrace. No gentle kiss this. It screamed of need and anger and desperation. His. Hers. She didn’t know for sure. Didn’t care. She wanted to cry from the relief of having his arms around her again.
Knuckling her fists into his warm tee shirt, she tried to yank him closer, but the shirt was old and stretched unmercifully. His lips smiled against hers as he grabbed a breath and then kissed her again, his tongue sweeping in to tangle with hers.
She could die from his wonderful familiar taste. She savored, remembered, and stored for later. Giving up on the shirt, she wound her arms around his neck to tug him closer, to pull him into her if she could.
Suddenly, his hands at her hips pressed her back, and she shamelessly hung on tighter. He reached up and worked her hands free, then kissed each one.
His eyes had gone black. This close, she could clearly see. No doubt a reflection of hers.
“Like coming home, isn’t it?” he rasped, his voice so hoarse it came out as a whisper.
Blurb Blitz and Giveaway: Cowboy Watch by Petie McCarty
COWBOY WATCH
Petie McCarty
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:  Romantic Suspense

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
he Watchers Series—Fallen angels cast out of heaven by the archangel Michael for coercing with Satan to gain control. Some of these conspirators—duped late in the game by Satan’s lies—doubled back to seek redemption for their unwitting betrayal. Offered parole in exchange for penance, these Watchers are given the toughest bodyguard missions with little leeway for success.
One last chance.
These are their stories . . .
Cowboy Watch:
Someone—or something—wants Kellen out of town . . .
Kellen Brand’s inheritance comes as a monumental shock—a rundown farm she doesn’t want and one paroled Watcher all her own. Kellen’s eccentric mother believed Watchers to be fallen angels seeking penance by guarding individuals who had lost their way. Seriously? A Watcher? Only her mother . . .
Since Kellen vows no sane woman would choose to live in Riverside, she’s on a mission to dump the old farm fast and to the first buyer who comes along. Unfortunately for her, the only buyer is a resort developer, spurned by a townful of objectors and one handsome cowboy—her neighbor, Luke Thornton. Luke must block Kellen’s farm sale or risk exposure of his own family’s secrets. He can ill afford his immediate and compelling attraction to his new neighbor.
Someone is watching Kellen, but not who she thinks. Someone deadly and intent on scaring her out of town. Or worse. Luke has a hellish choice to make—step in and rescue Kellen from her threats, or to protect his family, stand by and watch . . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

“And you are on my front porch because?” he barked, while holding the skittish stallion in place. Windsor had had his head, and he wanted it again.

Kellen’s eyes went wide with guilt. “I was just—”

“Snooping?” Windsor sidestepped to the right, forcing Luke to twist around in his saddle to hold eye contact.

She stiffened and her brilliant green eyes flashed with temper. “I was not! You-You—” She stamped her foot.

“Owner?” he said, unwilling to let her off the hook for an instant. Not when he had her good and cornered. Thank God, Windsor kept him so busy he didn’t ogle her like a schoolboy.

“No, I was going to say—”

The horse reared and pawed the air, effectively cutting her off. Of course, Luke’s little heel nudge and rein tug instigated the ostentatious display. He swiftly turned the horse back around so he could face her.

“So, why are you here? On my front porch. Peeking in my windows.”

She gave him a glare fit for the devil. “I was not peeking. I was trying to see if anyone was home.”

He waited.

Her eyes narrowed. “I didn’t want anything.” She hesitated. “I wasn’t doing anything.”

“Well, if you didn’t want anything and you weren’t doing anything . . .” He eased the powerful horse right up next to her though she stood her ground on the bottom step. “. . .then you must need a ride home.”

He snatched her off the step before she could answer and counted on the little spitfire having the presence of mind to swing her leg over the horse when Windsor took off. She didn’t disappoint him. The stallion streaked for the break in the tree line, and she clung to him like a tick on a coon dog.

She could almost hear the fish laughing at her . . .

Cody Ryan’s father never missed fishing the annual Loon Lake tournament until his unexpected passing. So this year, Cody packs up her how-to fishing videos and her dad’s old johnboat and gives him one final entry.

Gage Connor needs some R&R away from his coast guard deployment catching drug smugglers along the Louisiana coast, so he borrows a bass boat from his buddy and heads to Loon, Alabama to do some fishing.

When Gage and Cody meet at Loon Lake, their attraction is immediate and intense—until the two discover there is only one boat slip left on the lake and they both need it, and there’s only one vacant hotel room left in Loon and they both want it. Thus, their competition begins. Both vow to keep their distance from the other to fight the temptation, but fate has other plans. The tournament pairing party picks the two-man teams and chooses Gage as Cody’s partner.

For two days.
Alone on a boat.
Working as a team.

Good things come to those who bait . . .

Feeling the hotel room being yanked out from underneath her, Cody lost her grip on her temper. “I don’t care. I arrived here first.” She wheeled on Velma. “Tell him.”

Velma had a hard time meeting the man’s glittering green eyes, and Cody feared the worst. “Velma, you have to go with the first person who arrived here, and that was me.”

Velma visibly wavered, and her gaze bounced between Cody, Mr. Never-Had-Any-Patience, and her twin, who looked ready to burst into tears.

“It’s not your fault, Sister.” She patted Delma’s hand. “You didn’t know we were upstairs. I’ll handle this.”

Velma faced her two potential guests and announced, “We’ll flip for it.”

Delma immediately beamed.

“What?” Cody cried.

“Fine by me,” the stranger snapped and crossed his arms on his oversized and quite muscular pecs. Not that Cody was staring.

Velma reached into her apron pocket and drew out a silver dollar. She smiled at Cody. “Since you were here first, you can call it, and you can have heads if you want. I always liked heads in a coin toss, and I always got lucky calling heads.” Her eyes twinkled at Cody.

“Fine. Heads it is,” Cody said.

The coin flipped high in the air. Velma deftly caught it with her right hand and smacked the coin on top of her left. “Heads it is,” she proclaimed.

Cody blew out a sigh of relief.

“Hey, wait a minute,” the stranger complained.

“See for yourself.” Velma angled her hand for him to snatch a glimpse and then chucked the coin back into her pocket.

Cody stared him right in the eye. “I win.”

He eased closer—almost nose to nose—and she reconsidered her idea to gloat. His emerald eyes darkened, turned almost black, and locked onto hers. She could hear and feel each breath he took, because she held hers. Waiting.

“Share it with me.”

His gaze never wavered. She could feel it, almost like a caress.

“I promise I won’t touch you . . . if you don’t want me to.” The latter implied he wanted exactly the opposite.

Review Tour and Giveaway: The Angel and the Seal by Petie McCarty

The Angel and the SEAL
by Petie McCarty

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:   Romantic Suspense
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

The Angel and the SEAL . . . a cozy mystery with romantic suspense from the Mystery Angel Romances series. An angel hidden in every book waiting for you to figure out who . . .

Navy SEAL Sean MacKay's teammate is murdered after stealing a deadly nerve-gas formula from Syrian terrorists. Naval Intelligence believes MacKay's teammate was a traitor and shipped the stolen formula to his sister in the states for safekeeping. MacKay is given orders to find the sister before the terrorists do and to retrieve the stolen formula at all costs.

Foreclosure looms for Cory Rigatero as she fights to keep her rustic resort near Mt. St. Helens afloat after her brother deserted her to join the SEAL Teams. Cory's whole world dives into a tailspin when Sean MacKay shows up at her resort with the news of her brother's death and the wild suspicion her brother may have sent her traitorous classified documents. No way will Cory trust MacKay -- the man who once seduced her and then vanished into the night without a trace.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
The two of them had worked side by side almost the entire day. Whatever job she had, Mac had appeared whenever she needed him. The help had started with the bags of mulch she was loading into a small wagon in the barn.
Cory had hooked the wagon to the smaller John Deere riding tractor, intending to start at Lucky’s cabin and remulch the flower beds now that the tulip and daffodil bulbs were coming up. She hoisted the first of the two-cubic-foot bags into the wagon and bent over to pick up another. Muscular arms closed over hers and around the bag.
“Let me get that for you.”
Mac’s face appeared at her shoulder, his cheek close enough that if she moved her lips a very few inches, she could press a kiss there.
Now where did that thought come from? Easy, girl.
The rich smell of man, out-of-doors, and a hint of the morning’s after-shave had wafted over her and had her thinking sensual thoughts, like cheek-smooching.
Okay, way more sensual than just cheeks, she thought, as her gaze zeroed in on sexy lips made for kissing. Lips so full and so soft and so noticeable even when surrounded by the close-clipped dark beard. Lips that easily curved into a killer smile capable of stealing her breath away. Lips like that had to be made for kissing. His eyes studied hers intently.
Dear Lord, don’t let this man read my thoughts. They’d set his hair on fire.
As though he had heard, the noticeably sexy lips curved into the aforementioned breath-stealing smile.
Kiss me. Please, kiss me.
The wayward thought made her gasp in surprise.
He shifted back a few inches. “It’s okay. I’ve got it.”
Great. He’d heard. How embarrassing. She had gasped like an adolescent teen.
He straightened and gathered the mulch bag into his arms, then dropped it into the wagon. “These are too heavy for you.”
“Not really. I’d have to load them if you weren’t here.”
“But I am here.
His voice had gone husky, and her skin tingled. He was only inches away again. When had he moved? So quick, so silent.
His predatory-blue eyes trained on her, skimming over her face—over her—as though memorizing the way she looked. Or did he search for answers to unasked questions?
Her pulse rioted. Her palms grew clammy.
Mac leaned closer.
She held her breath.
“I . . .” He hesitated.
What? Tell me.
Tell me or kiss me.
One or the other.
He cleared his throat. “I want to thank you for the job.”
The pent-up air whooshed out of her disappointed lungs as he bent down to grab another mulch bag. What had just happened? She had almost kissed her new temporary laborer in the barn on his second day of work. That was nuts.
So why did it feel so right?
My Review
The Angel and the SEAL is the third installment from Petie McCarty’s series Mystery Angel Romances. Even though it is part of a series, I feel it can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed Cory and MacKay’s story. It is action packed, suspenseful and fast paced. It is a quick read that I had read in just a few hours.
I give The Angel and the SEAL four stars. I would love to read the previous books in this series to see what happened prior to this one.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
