Review: Fury in the Shadows by Rebecca Hemlock

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Blurb:

She was an expert at catching the predator. She knew nothing about being the prey.

Social Worker Jessica Everett spends her days saving women from abusive relationships and is good at what she does. At least, she thought so until she became the only witness to the murder of a young woman she was supposed to protect. Becoming the killer's next target forces her to take them on with her bare hands. Barely escaping with her life, she’s running through the woods trying to escape the murderer when her ex-boyfriend, Michael Redman, shows up just in the nick of time.

Jessica has worked hard to forget their painful history and doesn’t want anything to do with him. However, Michael happens to be a Deputy Sheriff and the only one capable of protecting her.
She’s been told since childhood that God had a plan for her life. How was she supposed to believe that while on the run from a killer? Jessica doesn’t have the strength to free herself from the guilt she carries, so how is she supposed to have the strength to guard her heart against the man she never stopped loving?

My Review:

I have enjoyed other books written by Rebecca Hemlock. In her newest release, Fury in the Shadows, her writing talents really shines through. I thought it was a really good book that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. At times, I felt like I was on a thrilling roller coaster ride. I admired Jessica’s bravery and determination throughout. The addition of the faith element and inspiration within the pages was another plus. I loved it.

I am giving Fury in the Shadows four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean Romantic Suspense. I look forward to more like this by Rebecca Hemlock in the future.

I received a digital copy of Fury in the Shadows from the author, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

More from Rebecca

Looking for new ideas is my favorite part of writing because it comes with talking to interesting people and exploring antique shops all over the country.

This book not only captures my love for American history and riveting romantic suspense, but it also captures how old wounds of the heart can be healed.

Levi Corbin in The Secret of the 14th Room learns this the hard way after carrying his broken heart for most of his adult life. He has to discover the real meaning of family and family pride. Levi must face the past so that he can move on to a brighter future.

Granton, Tennessee, is a town I hope you fall in love with, just as I did when I created it. There are so many delightful characters, some with a dark secret or two. This story has been brewing for a while, and I am glad that I finally have the opportunity to share it with you.

My Review

I have enjoyed Rebecca Hemlock’s books in the past and was excited to have the opportunity to read The Secret of the 14th Room. I was not disappointed. I thought it was a really good and quick mystery to read. I liked the character Levi from the beginning and he grew on me more and more as I got into the story. I found that it was not one to be predictable and I was often left guessing as to what would happen in the following scenes.

The Secret of the 14th Room will be getting four and a half stars from me. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean suspense and cozy mysteries. I will continue to look for books by Rebecca Hemlock.

About the Author

Rebecca Hemlock has written stories her entire life. She always knew she wanted to be a writer. That dream became a reality for her in 2016 when she landed her first job writing for her local newspaper. That same year, she was able to publish a children’s book under the pen name R.C. Burch.  With a little help from some wonderful people, Rebecca  was able to move forward in her writing career.

Rebecca published two more children’s books the following year, but children’s fiction was only the beginning. She self-published a novella in 2019, titled Bitter Betrayal, Arctic mysteries,  and completed her first novel in 2020. When she is not writing, Rebecca enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family.

Aside from being a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, she is also a member of Sister in Crime. Rebecca has a degree in English and a certificate in Creative Writing and is also pursuing a degree in Creative Writing.

More from Rebecca

This book was so much fun to write. There are so many places in this world that have been barely touched by man. I took an interest in Northern Canadian culture after watching a documentary about how the Vikings first settled there.

After reading through the different artifacts that have been found there, Bitter Betrayal was born. I knew this would make a tremendous mystery-suspense story. Whenever I start a Mystery Suspense book, I usually like to add a dash of romance with a historical twist.

Luke Wilkins is someone that most single dads can relate to. He has a difficult time trusting other people. Especially when it comes to his son, Adam. He must trust those around him if he’s going to stay alive.

Bitter Betrayal teeters on the concept of how far someone would go for what they want. If you love Clive Cussler as much as I do, then this Novella is for you.

My Review

Bitter Betrayal begins the Arctic Mysteries by Rebecca Hemlock. It is, also, my first introduction to her books. At under one hundred fifty pages, it is a fast read. There is mystery and suspense. The story is slightly predictable but still worth a reading. I wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen to Luke. It took no time find out if my predictions were correct, as it only took me a couple of hours to read the whole book.

Bitter Betrayal will be getting three and a half stars from. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading quick and clean mysteries. I look forward to seeing what happens next in the Arctic Mysteries. I am curious to find out where Rebecca Hemlock’s imagination will take her readers to next.

I received a paperback copy of Bitter Betrayal from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
