More from Dr. Joelle

Dear reader,

God loves us and counts us precious in His sight. We are full-time ministers wherever we are, and through whatever we do. Where our feet stand is where our pulpit stands. We shine the light of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and glorify Him, often without realizing it. God desires to use all of us in and through our daily activities.

My prayer is that this book will encourage and empower you to answer His call, from faith to faith. I trust the Spirit of God will strengthen you to continue what you are currently doing and lead you into additional steps in your divine purpose.

Below, please find a few quotes from the book to bless you today.

He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.–1Thessalonians 5:24 NKJV

Abundant blessings upon you and your family,

Dr. Joelle

  • What we do portrays a greater message than what we say.
  • We cannot seek God’s approval and man’s approval at the same time.
  • The trust in ourselves decreases as our trust in God increases.
  • When Christ becomes our motive for ministry, doors open for Him, not for us.
  • Never stop starting.
  • We cannot expect from others what only God can give.
  • Humility is the gateway to knowing Him.
  • What is on the inside comes out under pressure.
  • We do not complete with others, but we complete one another.
  • If I criticize who I am, I criticize God Himself.
  • What we dwell on, we eventually dwell in.
  • We cannot respect what we don’t value.

My Review

Dr Joelle Suel’s Stepping Stones: 7 Steps to Activating Your Divine Destiny is a great book to read. It is broken into seven chapters: Death, Discipleship, Dedication, Destination, Diverse Trials, Determination, and Divine Endowment. I thought it was thought provoking and inspiration. I liked that every stepping stone was supported by scripture all throughout the book. It is not a long book to read and can be easily added to anyone’s busy schedule and get the encouragement and motivation they many crave in their lives.

I am giving Stepping Stones: 7 Steps to Activating Your Divine Destiny five stars. I recommend it for readers who are who are looking for books on Christian growth.

I received a paperback copy of Stepping Stones: 7 Steps to Activating Your Divine Destiny from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Meet the Author:

Born and raised in Brazil to an entrepreneur dad and a pastor mom, Marta Spirk demonstrated an interest for the English language and American culture very early on and began teaching English at fourteen.

She went on to get bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English, became a certified court interpreter, and married an American she met at a church conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

After the surprise and blessing of triplets in 2016, Marta found a passion for encouraging and empowering women as she learned to encourage and empower herself through the challenges of adult (and triplet) life.

In 2020, her dream of becoming a US Citizen finally came true, and her coaching business grew exponentially. She now serves thousands of entrepreneurs, helping them to stop spinning their wheels by trying random personal development resources and finally learn to boost confidence and grow their business by looking at their most valuable resource: themselves!

Interview:

There are many books out there about self improvement….What makes yours different?

I remember reading one of my first personal development books ever, Brendon Burchard's High Performance Habits and being fascinated by his work. I instantly had a glimpse of doing something similar, but with my own principles and framework. I realize there are so many self-help and personal growth books and this was part of my resistance to publishing my own book. Ultimately, I decided to believe that I can choose to think there are too many books in this genre or that the very reason there are many books like this means I can add one more, with MY voice, MY story and MY lens. So, this is what makes my book different: it's mine and I'm unique. You may find a similar message elsewhere, but you will never find the same.

What advice would you give budding writers?

My advice has two parts: don't let the starting stop you and don't lose sight of your vision. In other words, have a clear goal in mind, yet don't worry about the details, otherwise you won't ever start. In the hard days, remembering why you're doing something is so important; it helps to overcome overwhelm and push through perfectionism. So, as you are beginning a writing project, start from the end, the outcome you're hoping to achieve and begin taking small steps toward it.

In your book you state that having triplets made you feel a pressure and weight of the responsibility to be the best mom possible, which led to your self-reflection work….why is that?

I believe the impossibility of my situation presented me with two options: remain in overwhelm or decide to take control of myself. I have been making every effort to choose the latter. Being outnumbered as a first-time-mom invited me to be resourceful in so many ways and one of them was to focus on the very source that would be caring for those babies: myself. I also had the opportunity to expand on this in my TEDx talk titled: The Transformational Power of Defeat.

Do you have another profession besides writing?

I wear quite a few hats most of the time. My career path has been in languages since I was 14. I was born and raised in Brazil and developed a love for the English language and American culture early on. At 14, I started tutoring friends and family and then earned a BA and MA in English. I'm now the only certified Portuguese court interpreter in Colorado and freelance for other state courts as well. My true passion, however, has been in consulting and coaching women entrepreneurs on how to grow their visibility, profit and impact through empowering marketing strategies, speaking and media features.

Do you ever get writer’s block? What helps you overcome it?

My biggest writer's block is also my antidote: distraction. When I feel resistance to getting a writing project done, I distract myself. So, I've learned to use that to my advantage. I distract myself and look for inspiration at the same time. I find that creativity flows when I take the time to allow my brain to explore a little and then rein it back in.

THE EMPOWERED WOMAN Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

The Empowered Woman: The Ultimate Roadmap to Business Success is a wonderfully written book by Marta Spirk. She has a beautiful way to encourage women on how to become a success and finding the power within themselves. She does this in five steps. Which include how to notice yourself, listen to yourself, forgive yourself, empower yourself and transform yourself. The last couple of years, I have gone through quite a bit that brought my self confidence and worth down quite a bit. I have been fighting myself back to find out who I was again and this book is just what I needed. After reading it, I felt myself feeling more optimistic and embolden. In order to be a success in life, I have to love myself, be more self aware, know its okay to make mistakes, and take control over my thoughts. The book is only just over seventy pages long and a perfect way to take a break and learn about myself. I loved it.

One night, Jesus caught Jeannine up in the most vivid dream of her life. In this dream, He flew her around the world and revealed how His presence is like the river of God. By contemplating the rivers in Scripture with Him, Jeannine began to understand what happens when we encounter His presence. From Genesis through Revelation, Jesus revealed to her how the rivers in Scripture can metaphorically depict what happens in God's presence and how Jesus invites us to commune with Him.

Regardless of your experience with God, this book will take you deeper and further in your spiritual life, and you will be more aware of His presence and all that is available to you within it. Studying the river of God will compel you to spend time with Him, where you will find the answers to all the "whats?" and the "whys?" and the "hows?" and the "what-ifs?" you've been asking. You will discover in His presence the best inspiration for life.

As you read The River of God's Presence, you will become more aware of His presence, and you will learn to live from the place of His presence. As this occurs, the beauty of His presence will flow out from your relationship with Him in such a way that it affects every aspect of your life!

Interview:

WHAT MADE YOU WRITE THIS BOOK?
In 2007, I had a dream while sleeping. In my dream, Jesus came to me and flew me around what felt like all the rivers on the earth. I knew we were in different parts of the world because I could hear different languages in the distance and see different swatches of clothing. However, my focus the entire time were the rivers Jesus was showing me. At the end of our flight. Jesus spoke to me and said, “Jeannine there is a reason my presence is likened to the river of God. If you will study the rivers in Scripture, I will show you what happens in My presence.”
So, I went from Genesis to Revelation and studied everything that happens in, through, by, and over rivers. In 2009, I felt God nudging me to write a book about what I had studied. It took me a long time to finally answer the call to write. I’m so grateful I finally obeyed as I’ve been hearing from readers that it is drawing them into deep places with God.

WHY DID IT TAKE YOU SO LONG TO WRITE THE BOOK?
At first, honestly, it was complete lack of confidence. I didn’t see myself as a writer. Then, it was the busyness of life and me allowing other things to take a higher priority. After that, when I finally did start to write, it felt like I was striving to make it good.
It wasn’t until two things happened that I finally hit a stride:
God answered my prayer in having an opening pop up with a writing coach I dearly wanted to work with. Though she didn’t know I wanted to work with her, one evening in December 2021, we were at a mutual friend’s home for dinner. She asked me how things were going with my book as I had taking a workshop from her. I answered, “Not good,” to which she responded by hitting both hands on the table and exclaiming, “This is the time. I’m going to help you. I’m going to be your coach, and this next year it will be published.”
This is amusing, but it’s true. You would think that the author of a book called, The River of God’s Presence, would know to write from the place of His presence. It took me until March 2022 to discover that. Once I realized I could write it with Him instead of just for Him, everything changed, and I found the flow of the Holy Spirit.

WHY DO YOU CALL THE CHAPTERS “INVITATIONS”?
That was actually my writing coach’s idea. I kept telling her how I wanted the book to draw people into encounters with God. I felt like God was asking me to write a book that invited people to experience His presence, not just read about what His presence is like. I remember the day she texted me and asked what I thought of the idea. Immediately I knew it was a great idea. Incidentally, that is also why I end each invitation with a meditation to draw the reader into an opportunity to encounter God.

HOW DID YOU DO RESEARCH FOR THE BOOK?
After I had the dream in 2007 that inspired the theme of the book, I went through Genesis to Revelation and looked at every reference made to rivers in the Bible. As I read, I spent time in prayer and meditation on the Scriptures. And the same way God speaks through dreams, visions, the Psalms, and parables in the Bible, He helped me to see in metaphor what He wanted to show me about His presence. Then, because each river passage is meant to be interpreted differently exegetically, it was important to me to do further research in the Bible to support what I sensed I was hearing from God. A friend of mine helped with that research. Between the two of us, we were able to find Bible stories that support each invitation.

WHY DO YOU SHARE PERSONAL STORIES IN EACH INVITATION?
I love the Word of God and believe in its power to transform people’s lives. I also believe in the power of testimony and story. Using testimony and story to highlight truths from the Bible, in my experience, helps people to relate to those truths and see the way God is working in their individual lives. By seeing the way God is working, they then get to learn more about His nature and grow in faith regarding how much He loves and cares for them. My sincere desire is for every personal story to point to His glory and goodness.

RIVER OF GOD'S PRESENCE Book Tour Giveaway

My Review:

The River of God's Presence is a fabulous book to read by author, Jeannine Rodriguez-Everard. She begins with telling of Jesus coming to her in a dream fifteen years ago. Which led on her on a quest to see more of God’s presence. The remainder of the book is broken down in to thirty three invitations. Each invitation includes quotes, scriptures, metaphors, Bible stories, personal stories and meditations. I enjoyed reading each of the invitations. They were thought provoking and inspiring to read. The invitations are only a few pages long which is great for those who have busy lives. This is one of those books that I will want to read again and again. It will most definitely be one that will be placed on my limited keeper shelf to have on hand at all times. I loved every single page of this book.

I am giving The River of God's Presence a very well deserved five plus stars. I believe it would be a perfect fit for readers who are looking for more inspiration and like to read faith filled books and seeing the Spirit of God can do for them. I would love to read more books like this from the talented Jeannine Rodriguez-Everard in the future. This one is not to be missed and I highly recommend it.

About the Author

Kurt is a Christian writer, living in Hawaii. A few years ago he did a study at his church on the Apostle John. That little project got him hooked on the man who started out life as a fisherman and then became a disciple of Christ.

The more he learned, the more he wanted to know. What did John do after the Crucifixion? Why did he wait so long to write the Gospel of John? Where did he live for the last 60 years of his life? This historical novel came out of the research he did to answer those questions.

He started a blog (KurtBrouwer.com) a few years ago. On it he has written over 100 blog posts and a few Christian booklets.

Now he’s working on Book Two in this series. The Last Disciple: Escape to Antioch takes up where Book One ends. The Last Disciple is a Christian historical novel that introduces you to John, the last disciple of Christ.

More from Kurt

About 85 AD, more than fifty years after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Gospel of John struck the Christian world like a lightning bolt out of a clear blue sky. At that time, few Christians even knew that one of the disciples yet lived. After all the years, decades even, a new book of the Bible came out, written by the last disciple of Christ.

Who was the last disciple?

John the son of Zebedee walked with Jesus during his ministry on earth. He witnessed the Crucifixion and later entered the empty tomb after Jesus rose from the grave.

John, the youngest of the disciples, outlived all the others. In fact, John, the last disciple of Christ, lived for more than 60 years after Jesus died on the Cross. But who was he? And what did he do all those years? Where did he live? With whom? What do we know of him and his life?

The youngest disciple…

John walked with Jesus when he was young, probably a teenager or very early 20s. He and Andrew were the first discples of Christ. John lived so long that he became the last disciple too.

A few details about John

He was:

  • The son of Zebedee, his father, and Salome, his mother
  • Brother to the disciple James
  • Possibly a cousin to Jesus through his mother
  • A fisherman on the Sea of Galilee
  • He and his brother James were friends and even fishing buddies with Peter and his brother Andrew
  • Almost certainly the youngest of the 12 disciples

I got hooked (pun intended) on John early one morning

One morning I read a short piece from BibleGateway.com by Jonathan Petersen, When Was Each Book of the Bible Written? In it, Petersen gave the approximate dates when all the New Testament books came out. The first, written by James the brother of Jesus, came out around 44 AD or as late as 49 AD. The most widely accepted year for the Crucifixion is 33 AD, so the first book did not come out for at least 11 years after Christ died.

The next New Testament book to come out was Paul’s letter to the Galatians, around 49 AD. After that came the gospels of Mark and Matthew. Other books such as Luke, Acts, and all of Paul’s letters came along in fairly short order. Peter’s two letters came out and then the book of Jude, about 68-70 AD. Then, for at least 10-20 years, no new Bible books came out.

The silence was broken

Finally, the silence was broken. After all the years, decades even, the words of one who walked with Jesus came forth. The Gospel of John came out written by a man who saw the empty tomb after Jesus rose. A man who would write five books of the Bible:

  • The Gospel of John 80-90 AD
  • The Letters or Epistles of John 90-95 AD
  • The Book of Revelation 95-98 AD

A unique voice came forth

As John’s gospel spread from church to church, a unique voice came forth. What a miracle that must have been to first century Christians when the Gospel of John appeared!

That’s it for now. We will continue with more in future posts on the saga of the last disciple of Christ. If you can’t wait, watch the video above.

Yours in Christ, Kurt

She could almost hear the fish laughing at her . . .

Cody Ryan’s father never missed fishing the annual Loon Lake tournament until his unexpected passing. So this year, Cody packs up her how-to fishing videos and her dad’s old johnboat and gives him one final entry.

Gage Connor needs some R&R away from his coast guard deployment catching drug smugglers along the Louisiana coast, so he borrows a bass boat from his buddy and heads to Loon, Alabama to do some fishing.

When Gage and Cody meet at Loon Lake, their attraction is immediate and intense—until the two discover there is only one boat slip left on the lake and they both need it, and there’s only one vacant hotel room left in Loon and they both want it. Thus, their competition begins. Both vow to keep their distance from the other to fight the temptation, but fate has other plans. The tournament pairing party picks the two-man teams and chooses Gage as Cody’s partner.

For two days.
Alone on a boat.
Working as a team.

Good things come to those who bait . . .

Feeling the hotel room being yanked out from underneath her, Cody lost her grip on her temper. “I don’t care. I arrived here first.” She wheeled on Velma. “Tell him.”

Velma had a hard time meeting the man’s glittering green eyes, and Cody feared the worst. “Velma, you have to go with the first person who arrived here, and that was me.”

Velma visibly wavered, and her gaze bounced between Cody, Mr. Never-Had-Any-Patience, and her twin, who looked ready to burst into tears.

“It’s not your fault, Sister.” She patted Delma’s hand. “You didn’t know we were upstairs. I’ll handle this.”

Velma faced her two potential guests and announced, “We’ll flip for it.”

Delma immediately beamed.

“What?” Cody cried.

“Fine by me,” the stranger snapped and crossed his arms on his oversized and quite muscular pecs. Not that Cody was staring.

Velma reached into her apron pocket and drew out a silver dollar. She smiled at Cody. “Since you were here first, you can call it, and you can have heads if you want. I always liked heads in a coin toss, and I always got lucky calling heads.” Her eyes twinkled at Cody.

“Fine. Heads it is,” Cody said.

The coin flipped high in the air. Velma deftly caught it with her right hand and smacked the coin on top of her left. “Heads it is,” she proclaimed.

Cody blew out a sigh of relief.

“Hey, wait a minute,” the stranger complained.

“See for yourself.” Velma angled her hand for him to snatch a glimpse and then chucked the coin back into her pocket.

Cody stared him right in the eye. “I win.”

He eased closer—almost nose to nose—and she reconsidered her idea to gloat. His emerald eyes darkened, turned almost black, and locked onto hers. She could hear and feel each breath he took, because she held hers. Waiting.

“Share it with me.”

His gaze never wavered. She could feel it, almost like a caress.

“I promise I won’t touch you . . . if you don’t want me to.” The latter implied he wanted exactly the opposite.

Read an Excerpt

"After Mac fought Eldon it was like he'd gone into some kind of trance. He was in and out of consciousness for a couple of hours."

"I heard about that," Lena put her arm in Zora's and they started walking again. "So many things have happened at once. The challenge, his mating with you, the new shop--it's all coming down at once. Surviving a challenge alone would be enough."

"Lena, I can understand the challenge being stressful, but the mating? It wasn't like it was the first time we'd been intimate."

"There's more involved in the process than it might've seemed. Being at the waterfall where Stephen and Ellen were mated, where I was mated, and generations before me…surrounded by the pride members…it connected you both and made you part of our family," Lena explained. "It's part of a transition that we go through. As a human, you wouldn't have noticed it. But for him, it was a big step away from his life as a nomad."

"But if that's true, what about last night? If we are connected to each other, how could the blood fever make him act that way?"

"Blood fever makes the predator inside him stronger. Those impulses were always there, but my grandson channeled them into his work."

"So, what do I do?" Zora asked.

"Don't show fear. No matter what. Fear feeds the predator inside him. The more fear, the more control the blood fever will have over him. I know he doesn't want to admit this thing could overpower him. But if he tries to fight it, he will lose."

"Lena, do you think he could hurt me?" As she asked the ques-tion, a chill went through her, like she'd been dipped in ice water.

"No, my dear. Blood fever will not make him do anything that he wouldn't normally do. Not really," she replied, as she grasped Zora's hand.

BLURB:

From the author of The Pilot's Daughter and The Final Hunt comes a thrilling, suspense-driven mystery set in World War II-era Seattle.

Seattle, 1942. News of the war is interrupted by the kidnapping of young Max Ellis, heir to the wealthiest banking family on the west coast. When the boy's parents comply with the ransom demands, the kidnapper is found dead and their son remains missing. For newlywed Vera Chandler, the story hits close to home-her husband Hugh is just six months into his job as the Ellis's private pilot.

Within days, Hugh is deployed to the Pacific as a navy pilot, while Vera's flying instructor and best friend joins the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron. Left alone, her parents' words haunt her: If you really wanted to serve your country, you wouldn't have dropped out of nursing school.

In an exchange for a favor Vera can't refuse, she is pulled into the Ellis family affairs by the desperate mother of the missing child. The Ellis family, Vera learns firsthand, is as dangerous as they are rich. Soon, she is in a race to save the child's life, and it could be the only way she can save her own.

EXCERPT:

Priscilla put her hand on the wool trousers covering the limp legs of the man she had tripped over. She shook the pants leg, but there was no movement. She heard Vincent’s footsteps flying up the path.

“Max!” she yelled out again.

Her cry was met with nothing but silence. The light from Vincent’s flashlight illuminated the body next to her when he reached her side. Priscilla shrieked and jumped to her feet. She impulsively took her husband’s arm and stared down at the man.

“Oh, no! Oh, dear God! This can’t be happening!”

A bullet hole marked the middle of the blond man’s forehead. Blood and brain matter speckled with gunpowder seeped into his hairline. Another bullet had pierced his chest just below his neck. A deep red stain flowed beneath the collar of his shirt. His blank eyes stared at her.

“Max!”

Vincent aimed his flashlight around the surrounding park as Priscilla continued to call out for their son. But there was no movement and no response.

“Max!”

“I know this man!” Vincent pointed to the bloodied corpse. “It’s Howard Mills—the man Rex fired for stealing! The guy we called the police on!”

Only three weeks ago, this same man had appeared at their home like a raging maniac, banging on their front door and complaining that Rex had unfairly fired him.

“I remember—but Vincent!” She gripped the sleeves of his overcoat and spun him toward her.

“Where’s our son?”

MY REVIEW:

I have read and enjoyed previous books from the talented author Audrey J Cole. I was excited to get my hands on her newest release, Only One Lie. I was far from being disappointed. It is now my new favorite that I have read by her to date. I admired Vera’s bravery and determination all throughout the book. The story is full of action, danger, thrills and history. I loved every single page that kept me engaged and intrigued from start to finish. It was a great read and should not be missed.

I am giving Only One Lie five stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading historical suspense, particularly set during the World War II era. I can not wait to read more books from Audrey J Cole in the future.

I received a digital copy of Only One Lie from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
