Meet the Author:

Evita's passion is assisting the elderly, especially those living with dementia. Her mission is to help people age in the manner they envision for themselves and not through the lens of others. She works to provide data and resources to assist elders in effectively aging-in-place and equips their families and friends to support their loved ones amidst uncertainty. Working in the elder care field as a licensed nursing home administrator, senior living marketing professional, and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), Evita witnesses both elders and families make tough decisions. Some of those decisions result in despair, while others result in healing. The key to enabling elders to live life to its fullest is to help them find their voices and exercise their right to choose.

Evita collaborates with family and friends to ensure that her mother, who lives with dementia, and her father, recently diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, maintain their voices and make well-informed choices as their disease progresses.

My Review:

Does Grandma Remember Me? is a great book for young children to read. It is a good way to help explain to them why a loved one is so forgetful or having a hard time while battling the dreaded condition of dementia. It is a wonderful way to show them that the person (Grandma in this story) may have changed over time, but the love and the cherished moments with them is still there. My own grandfather had dementia and it was so hard to watch. I would have loved to had this book handy to help me during that time.

Does Grandma Remember Me? is illustrated by the very talented Chayla Bolden. The pictures are perfect for young children to follow and understand as to what is going on. They are colorful and helpful for the children to stay focused and want to keep reading.

Does Grandma Remember Me? will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who are between the ages of four to eight years old. Especially, for those who are experiencing or understanding a loved one’s dementia. I am hoping that Evita Sherman will continue to write books like this in the future. I would love it if she would have one that is for older children or even adults to deal with this terrible disease.

I received a hard cover copy of Does Grandma Remember Me? from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
