Book Description:

When souls intersect deeply, but their paths are separate...

After a harrowing experience from his service in the military, Matt returns only to find his marriage to the love of his life is over. In the midst of his darkness, Matt seeks peace camping in Wyoming, where he meets Nicole, an intriguing woman who shifts his perspective, and changes his life forever. As their connection deepens, their relationship uncovers the fears that are holding both of them back.

Matt isn’t the only one with an unresolved love in his past. Waiting in the wings is Sam, Nicole’s business partner and best friend. The pair have a history of more than just catering and event planning, but Nicole has always been afraid of letting Sam get too close.

In this novel of self-discovery, compassion and healing, Nicole and Matt are brought to a greater understanding and acceptance of themselves, and who they are in the world.

Where do you write, and what is your process?
My absolute favorite place to write is while I’m camping in the mountains. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, free from the TV/internet and other distractions of everyday life, alone - the words just flow. (In fact, the cover of the book is a painting my sister, Janet Hamilton, did based on a photo of the river near my favorite campground.) I try to get up there for at least two weeks during the summer. Of course, the camping season is pretty short. So a lot of the writing is done at home. My son urged me to try the coffee shop scene, which is his preferred place to work, but I could never get into it. It’s too tempting to just people-watch!

One thing that is really important for me is music. Mostly newer alternative rock, there’s just something about the music that taps me into my own essence, brings up the emotions and makes me feel what’s happening with the characters I’m writing.

I don’t generally start with the beginning when I write. In so many movies you see an author sit down and type “Chapter One.” That’s not the true beginning for me. I start with the “guts” of the book, the main scenes between the characters. (And I often get surprises along the way when I’m in the flow of it. Matt didn’t “tell” me what he was going to try with Nicole until suddenly my fingers were typing the words!) Then I go back and build up the rest, the background leading up to their moment, the stage that’s set for them.

Do any of you authors out there work this way, or do you start with chapter one and go through to the end?

My Review:

I found Karen D Hamilton’s debut, A Delicate Dance of Souls, to be a pretty good read. I found some inspiration between these pages. The story was quick and easy to read. It held my attention from start to finish. I had no problem of having the whole book read in one sitting, which was time well spent.

In A Delicate Dance of Souls, readers are introduced to Nicole and Matt, two people who are dealing with broken hearts and have their own emotional struggles. I enjoyed getting to know the two and it was great watching them grow. They had to face their past and to learn how to move on with the present. They had to find the truth within themselves. The author does a great job describing their emotions within the pages.

I thought A Delicate Dance of Souls is a story that is true to life that many readers could relate to. The characters were, also, relatable and easily for many readers be able to connect to. I found some inspiration and know that many others would to and may need it, as well.

I am giving a A Delicate Dance of Souls four and a half stars. I would be interested in reading more by Karen D Hamilton in the near future. She is obviously a very creative and talented writer. I recommend it for other readers who enjoy romance that is heartwarming and inspiring. It is definitely not one to be miss. I loved it!

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
