grief and healing from a family perspective.

Characters & Background

Set on a ranch, father Will is struggling to raise his three children (Ellie, Noah and Nile)
after his wife, Claire, passed away two years before.

Ellie is strong-willed, like her mother, and is determined to ride equally strong-willed
horse, Belle, that belonged to her mother.

As Christmas approaches, the family wants to celebrate but Will isn’t ready to celebrate
without Claire.

Will was a country music singer who quit after his wife died, but his sons are both
musically inclined but have to play in secret.

Ellie cuts down a tree and decorates the barn so she can celebrate Christmas,
even if her father won’t.

Will wants to subdivide the ranch into 100-acre plots so he doesn’t have to go back to
writing music.

Will sells Belle despite protests from Ellie but changes his mind. This brings a new
horse trainer, Sam, to the ranch who helps Will rediscover the joy in life.

Sam agrees to train Belle but only if Will joins the sessions with Ellie.

Bible Verses

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to
kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and
a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and
a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
– Ecclesiastes 3:1-13 (NIV)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
– 1 John 7:7 (NIV)

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
– Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong
— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
– Romans 1:11-12 (NIV)

My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.
– Psalm 102:11 (NIV)

But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord,
– Jeremiah 30: 17 (NIV)

Recommended Reading

I enjoyed watching Moonrise. I instantly felt a connection to Will and could understand his grief, trauma, guilt and bitterness. I was inspired to see how he was able to move forward and having the reminder that he can always turn to God. Leaning on God during hard times is a must to heal your heart and soul. Forgiving yourself and others is a must also. I thought it was a great movie to watch that had me tears in many scenes and I warn viewers to get those tissues handy. A beautiful, faith filled and heartwarming movie to watch with the whole family.

I am giving Moonrise a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for families of all ages.

I received an early screen link of Moonrise from Pure Flix, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
