Review: Engaging Deception by Regina Jennings

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blurb:

Olive Kentworth has spent her life hiding her interest in architecture, even though she pores over architectural books and sketches buildings. When she accepts a job on a home expansion, it's only because her cousin Amos agrees to pose as the builder. To further hide her involvement, Olive takes a position as a nanny--not knowing that she'll be working for her idol, Joplin's leading architect, widower Maxfield Scott.

Maxfield is intrigued by his new nanny--she makes his home and his life bearable again. His work, on the other hand, is a disaster. An untrained builder is remodeling a completed project of his. What's worse, Maxfield's current client wants changes to his plans because of that builder's work.

As the architectural one-upmanship heats up, Olive's involvement becomes harder to hide. Will the relationship between her and Maxfield survive, or will they both miss out on building something for their future?

My Review:

Engaging Deception is the third installment from Regina Jennings’ delightful series, The Joplin Chronicles. Even though this is part of a series, it can still be read as a stand alone. I loved the first two books from the series, Courting Misfortune and Proposing Mischief, and was far from being disappointed reading this one. It was such an amusing tale that had my giggling throughout and my heart warmed with Olive and Maxfield’s story. Such a wonderfully written book that is amusing and inspiring. Loved it.

I am giving Engaging Deception a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean and fun historical romance. As always, I am eagerly awaiting to find out what else Regina Jennings has in store for her readers and characters in her upcoming releases.

I received a paperback copy of Engaging Deception from the publisher, but was not required to write a review, nor a positive one. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Review: Proposing Mischief by Regina Jennings

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blurb:

Maisie Kentworth is stuck on the ranch. Having fallen in love with the wrong guy, she can't risk inflaming things between her former beau and her protective family. Left to rue her mistakes, she keeps busy exploring the idle mine at the edge of their property.

Boone Bragg is also stuck. With his parents on vacation, the management of Bragg Mining falls on him, and one of his advisors wants him as a son-in-law. One wrong move, and Boone will end up either offending an associate or getting married to a woman he can't endure.

While closing up a spent mine, Boone gets two surprises. One is an untamed farm girl who's trespassing with a pickax, and the other is the amazing crystal cavern that she's discovered. Suddenly Boone sees a way to overhaul the family business. With part of the cavern on Kentworth land, Boone makes Maisie a proposal that he hopes will solve all of their problems. Instead it throws Joplin into chaos.

My Review:

I loved the first installment from Regina Jennings’ The Joplin Chronicles series, Courting Misfortune, and was excited to have the opportunity to read the next in the series, Proposing Mischief. I was far from being disappointed. It is my new favorite I have read for this year. It was so fun to read that had me laughing from start to finish. The wrestling scene was hilarious. I never knew what Maisie was going to do next , especially when she was with Boone. I. Loved. Every. Page.
I am giving Proposing Mischief a very well deserved five plus stars. I would give it one hundred stars if I could. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. I can not wait for the release for the third book from The Joplin Chronicles series. This one should definitely not be missed.

Calista York needs one more successful case as a Pinkerton operative to secure her job. When she's assigned to find the kidnapped daughter of a mob boss, she's sent to the rowdy mining town of Joplin, Missouri, despite having extended family in the area. Will their meddling expose her mission and keep Lila Seaton from being recovered?

When Matthew Cook decided to be a missionary, he never expected to be sent only a short train ride away. While fighting against corruption of all sorts, Matthew hears of a baby raffle being held to raise funds for a children's home. He'll do what he can to stop it, but he also wants to stop the reckless Miss York, whose bad judgment consistently seems to be putting her in harm's way.

Review: The Major's Daughter by Regina Jennings

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blurb

Caroline Adams returns to Indian Territory craving adventure after tiring of society life. When she comes across swaggering outlaw Frisco Smith, his dreams to obtain a piece of property on the Unassigned Lands are very persuasive. When the gun sounds, they find themselves battling over a claim--and both dig in their heels.

My Review:

If readers have not read books by Regina Jennings, do not know what they are missing. The Major's Daughter is one example. This third installment from her series, Fort Reno, is yet another exciting read by her. I loved this story. Frisco and Caroline were quite the entertaining characters that made this book. They were so much fun.

I am giving The Major’s Daughter five plus stars. I highly recommend this book, as well as, the other books from Fort Reno series.

Review: Serving Up Love: A Harvey House Brides Collection

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blurb:

Bestselling novelist Tracie Peterson joins Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, and Jen Turano in this collection of four novellas, each featuring a Harvey Girl heroine. From Kansas to Texas, the Grand Canyon to New Mexico, the stories cross the country with tales of sweet romance and entertaining history.

In Karen Witemeyer's "More Than a Pretty Face," a young woman works her hardest to escape poor choices from her youth. Tracie Peterson offers "A Flood of Love," where reuniting with an old flame after more than a decade offers unexpected results. Regina Jennings's "Intrigue a la Mode" delights with a tale of a young woman determined to help support her family, despite warnings of danger nearby. And Jen Turano's "Grand Encounters" heads to the Grand Canyon with a tale of a society belle intent on finding a new life for herself.

My Review:

More Than a Pretty Face by Karen Witemeyer
A Flood of Love by Tracie Peterson

I enjoyed every one of these stories. Karen, Tracie, Regina and Jen has compiled a fun and entertaining collection. I found myself laughing out loud so many times in some scenes that I am glad I was not out in public embarrassing myself. It was great meeting these Harvey Girls and learning about what it was like to be one.

Review: The Lieutenant's Bargain by Regina Jennings

The Lieutenant's Bargain (Fort Reno, #2)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blurb:

Hattie Walker dreams of becoming a painter, while her parents want her to settle down. As a compromise, they give her two months to head to Denver and place her works in an exhibition or give up the dream forever. Her journey is derailed when a gunman attacks her stagecoach, leaving her to be rescued by a group of Arapaho . . . but she's too terrified to recognize them as friendly.

Confirmed bachelor Lieutenant Jack Hennessey has long worked with the tribe and is tasked with trying to convince them that the mission school at Fort Reno can help their children. When a message arrives about a recovered survivor, Jack heads out to take her home--and plead his case once more.

He's stunned to run into Hattie Walker, the girl who shattered his heart--but quickly realizes he has a chance to impress her. When his plan gets tangled through translation, Jack and Hattie end up in a mess that puts her dreams in peril--and tests Jack's resolve to remain single.

My Review:

The Lieutenant's Bargain is the second installment from Regina Jennings series, Fort Reno. I have to say this one is probably among my favorites written by her, as well as, among my top ten favorites I have read in 2018. Hattie and Jack's story is so sweet, fun, and delightful.
I can not tell how much I love The Lieutenant's Bargain. I would give it one hundred stars if I could. I highly highly recommend it. I can not wait to see what happens in the third addition to Fort Reno series.

Review: Hearts Entwined by Karen Witemeyer, Mary Connealy, Regina Jennings, Melissa Jagears

Blurb (from Amazon):

Four top historical romance novelists team up in this new collection to offer stories of love and romance with a twist of humor. In Karen Witemeyer's "The Love Knot," Claire Nevin gets the surprise of her life awaiting her sister's arrival by train. Mary Connealy's "The Tangled Ties That Bind" offers the story of two former best friends who are reunited while escaping a stampede. Regina Jennings offers "Bound and Determined," where a most unusual trip across barren Oklahoma plains is filled with adventure, romance, and . . . camels? And Melissa Jagears' "Tied and True" entertains with a tale of two hearts from different social classes who become entwined at a cotton thread factory.

Each tale is a fun blend of history and romance that will delight readers.

My Review:

Hearts Entwined is a collection of four stories. The stories include:
The Love Knot by Karen Witemeyer
The Tangled Ties That Bind by Mary Connealy
Bound and Determined by Regina Jennings
Tied and True by Melissa Jagears

I thought this was a great collection. All four of the stories are full of laughter and sweetness. A fabulous read.

5+ stars.

Review: Holding the Fort (Fort Reno #1) by Regina Jennings

Blurb (from Amazon):

Jennings Winningly Combines Humor, History, and Romance

Louisa Bell never wanted to be a dance-hall singer, but dire circumstances force her hand. With a little help from her brother in the cavalry, she's able to make ends meet, but lately he's run afoul of his commanding officer, so she undertakes a visit to straighten him out.

Major Daniel Adams has his hands full at Fort Reno. He can barely control his rowdy troops, much less his two adolescent daughters. If Daniel doesn't find someone respectable to guide his children, his mother-in-law insists she'll take them.

When Louisa arrives with some reading materials, she's mistaken for the governess who never appeared. Major Adams is skeptical. She bears little resemblance to his idea of a governess--they're not supposed to be so blamed pretty--but he's left without recourse. His mother-in-law must be satisfied, which leaves him turning a blind eye to his unconventional governess's methods. Louisa's never faced so important a performance. Can she keep her act together long enough?

My Review:

Holding the Fort is the beginning of a fun new series by Regina Jennings called Fort Reno. I have loved all of her stories and I believe this one is my new favorite. It is full of laugh out loud entertainment, adventure and good ol' clean romance. Louisa and Daniel are the best characters, especially, when they are in the same scene.

If the rest of the series is this good, then I am looking forward to the next installment. I loved this story! Such a great read!

Highly recommended.

100 stars.
