Book Description:

Teagan Tate has everything he’s ever wanted, but despite his wild success as a musician and his wild popularity with the ladies, he’s lonely. Meaningless hook-ups are getting old. There is one woman he’s interested in, but she won’t give him the time of day.

Maria Ruiz has no time for men like Teag – men with a revolving bedroom door who are too cocky for their own good. Sure, he has the body of a Greek god and a sexy Aussie accent, but as head of security for his band, Maria won’t risk her professional reputation. And as a woman who’s been there and done that, she won’t risk her heart.

Things take a deadly turn when Teag is the sole surviving witness to a cartel murder. Still recovering from his injuries, he’s forced into hiding with his sexy bodyguard. As their feelings grow into something unexpected and wonderful, a ruthless killer continues to hunt Teag.

Maria and Teag must rely on each other to stay out of his crosshairs, or they risk losing each other and their chance at love.

When a Minor Character Demands a Story…

I’d originally planned only five books for the Tactical Solutions International romantic suspense series. Before I put pen to paper, I’d identified the main cast of characters for each story, had a feel for their personalities and histories, and outlined the major ‘suspense’ arc for all of the plot lines. Then, shockingly, while in the midst of writing, a few of the minor characters demanded their own story. What’s a writer to do when this happens? Well, write that story of course!

This was the case with Teagan Tate, the male lead in Moving Target. We first meet Teag in Sing for Me, book one in the TSI series. He’s the crass, funny, Aussie drummer in the rock band Madison Grace and a good friend to Fiona Flynn, lead singer of the band and star of book one. Teag was such of fun character to write that I definitely wanted to spend more time with him, and when I started to receive reader requests for his story, I took it as a sign.

Since he wasn’t part of the original line-up, I had to find him a leading lady, create a separate, interesting plot arc, and really think through his background. I’d shown his softer side through his friendship and support of Fiona in Sing for Me, and strongly suggested there was more to him than his womanizing ways in book one, but I hadn’t really dug deeply into his background.

To do this, I had to build on what I’d already established about Teag while filling in the blanks of his past. What motivated him to become a musician? What was his childhood like? Why did he move to the US? Was his heart ever broken? Once I asked, and answered, these kinds of questions, Teag’s full character developed and took shape. After getting to know him better, it was truly satisfying to watch him fall in love, all while maintaining his larger-than-life personality.

When a member of the supporting cast generates a significant reader interest, and when I feel attached to them beyond their first appearance, I take that as my cue to give them some more attention. So far, reader feedback for Teag and Moving Target has been positive!

 My Review:

Moving Target is the fourth installment from Maggie Clare’s Tactical Solutions International series. It is the first book I have read by this author. Even though this is part of a series, I feel as though it can still be read as a stand alone. It was an engaging mystery and suspense that was not predictable for me. The romantic scenes were a little spicier than what I am used to reading but I just skimmed over those and continued to read on. There was a lot going on for Maria and Teag. They made quite the duo that got caught up into danger. I loved the chemistry between them and wanted to find out how it would all end for them. There was a lot of adventure and action with some twists and turns that kept me often on the edge of my seat. I felt like I was on a thrilling roller coaster ride. I never knew what would happen next.

Moving Target will be four stars from me. Readers who enjoy reading romantic suspense would enjoy this one. It would be interesting to find out what happened to the characters in the first three books from the Tactical Solutions International series. I would be curious to see where else Maggie Clare’s imagination had taken them to.

I received a paperback copy of Moving Target from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
