Blog Tour and Giveaway: Lost Girls Trilogy by Cheryl Holt

My Summer, 2020 Lost Girls trilogy was released yesterday! I’m so excited for everyone to finally have a chance to read the three novels.

My three heroines were the sole survivors of a shipwreck when they were little, and they were found on a deserted island in the Caribbean by British navy sailors. So they’ve always had a special place in their hearts for sailors!

If you haven’t read any of my novels before (or if you have!), I’m renowned for writing some of the most macho, dashing, and yummy heroes in romance fiction. In this new trilogy, all three men have a strong connection to the navy.

Luke, in Book #1, spent two decades as a sailor, but his brother died, so he’s just retired and come home to assume his place as Earl of Barrett. Caleb, in Book #2, was also a sailor for two decades. He recently retired and started a gambling club in London that’s made him obscenely rich so he has beautiful women circling, wanting to latch onto him in a big way. Jacob, in Book #3, is still a ship’s captain in the navy, but he’s about to become engaged, and he’s thinking about retiring and coming home for good.

The three men are handsome, dashing rogues who are confirmed bachelors. They don’t believe in love or that a man can live happily ever after with a wife. When they meet my three heroines, they simply can’t resist, and they can’t wait to be leg-shackled!

The 3 novels were released yesterday, so you can read the whole series at once without having to wait for the next installment. They’re available both as print books and e-books. My Lost Girls trilogy! Available now!

Interview Questions

1.      Where do you get your inspiration for your characters?

When I get ready to start a new trilogy, I sit down for several weeks and ponder the types of characters I want to create for the new set of stories. I write genre fiction, which means I basically tell a version of Cinderella over and over again. It’s women’s favorite story and has been throughout history. We never get tired of hearing it told in new ways.

Readers who pick up one of my books want to read a great Cinderella story, so I walk a tricky line where I have to tell the same story over and over again, but I have to make it completely different every time so the stories remain fun and interesting. For my female heroines, I try to draft women who are “typical” to the time period, so they’re usually spinsters or poor cousins or maybe a young lady whose father has gambled away her home. I like them to be in jeopardy and out of options, because it gives me great choices when I manipulate them into difficult situations.

My novels are always set in early 1800s England, so women had restricted lives and choices. I don’t use women in roles that were odd to the time period, so you won’t see them working as doctors or spies or lawyers. I like the restrictions under which they labor; they give me lots of plot choices because the heroines are limited in what sorts or decisions they can make. It always lands them in plenty of trouble!

2.      Do you have a favorite character in this series?

I suppose my favorite character would have to be Libby Carstairs, the heroine of Book #1. When she was returned to England, she was claimed by an uncle who trained her for a life on the stage. So she’s spent her childhood, touring England and regaling audiences with tales of the shipwreck and her rescue by British sailors. She’s considered to be England’s “darling”, and she’s famous throughout the kingdom.

I like her because I’ve never used a heroine like her before. I always draft heroines who are very “ordinary” for the times. They’re poor cousins or spinsters or poverty-stricken young ladies. So Libby is a completely new kind of heroine for me, so it was really fun to write her.

3.       Tell us a little about your latest trilogy.

This year, I’m releasing my “Lost Girls” trilogy.

For several summer now, I’ve been writing linked trilogies that have a defined premise that carries the plot through all three novels. In this series, the link is that the heroines were traveling to Jamaica with their families when they were little girls, and their ship sank in a terrible storm. Against all odds, they were the only survivors. They were found on a deserted island by British sailors, but no one could figure out how they survived—and they were too young to explain much of what had happened to them.

They were returned to England, where they enjoyed a bit of notoriety. Then they were separated and doled out to distant relatives. They never saw each other again. When the novels start, it’s the 20th anniversary of the shipwreck, and the three women’s lives are pitched off in new and exciting directions where they meet the men of the dreams.

4.      Is there anything else you’d like to share with your fans?

Thank you for buying and reading my books. I’ve been able to entertain people with my fun stories for twenty years now! I’m so lucky, and I was only able to do that because people were kind enough to let me into their lives.

I’m always grateful for everyone’s kind attention.
