Nothing prepares Jaya, a New York journalist, for the heartbreak of her third miscarriage and the slow unraveling of her marriage in its wake. Desperate to assuage her deep anguish, she decides to go to India to uncover answers to her family’s past. Intoxicated by the sights, smells, and sounds she experiences, Jaya becomes an eager student of the culture. But it is Ravi—her grandmother’s former servant and trusted confidant—who reveals the resilience, struggles, secret love, and tragic fall of Jaya’s pioneering grandmother during the British occupation.

Through her courageous grandmother’s arrestingly romantic and heart-wrenching story, Jaya discovers the legacy bequeathed to her and a strength that, until now, she never knew was possible.

My Review:

The Storyteller's Secret is one of my favorite reads for this year. Readers are introduced to Jaya. She and her husband live in New York. They have once again suffered another miscarriage. The heart break of not able to yet have a child puts strain on their marriage. They decide to separate. Jaya goes to India to find out more about her family's history. She discovers more than she expected. She learns about her grandmother and the lifelong secrets she held. How will these secrets affect Jaya's life? How will she deal with these secrets?

The Storyteller's Secret is a fabulous piece of fiction. I understand Jaya and her struggle and grieve dealing with the miscarriages. I could feel her emotions, insecurities and wanting to get away. When she was in India, I was shocked with what she learned. I did not expect it at all. The mystery and suspense leading up to the discoveries made me want to keep reading. I actually had the whole book read in one day. I just had to find out what would happen next.

I would The Storyteller's Secret one hundred stars if I could. I wan to read more by Sejal Badani in the near future. In fact, as soon as I finished this one, I instantly bought another. I look forward to where the author's imagination will take me to in that one. I highly recommend this book to other readers, especially to those who enjoy well written books that takes them to the past and present. This one is most definitely not one to be missed. I absolutely loved it!

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
